Cervical mucus during ovulation is clear and stretchy. Your cervical mucus leading up to ovulation will go between dry to creamy/pasty (like lotion) or tacky and crumbly (ie. no stretching) and will return that way after ovulatory cervical mucus. Some women (like me) don't produce enough cervical mucus due to hormone imbalances, which makes it hard to become pregnant because you don't have good cervical mucus to "host" sperm. Sperm thrive in this cervical mucus which is why you should not have sex 3 days before your suspected ovulation day if you are avoiding. Once you chart your cervical mucus over 3 cycles you will begin to see the patterns in your cervical mucus. This particular method is called the Creighton method and is one of the many ways you can do NFP. I am such an advocate for natural cycles and saying no to birth control because you learn so much more about your body and how it works. Including if your cycle is healthy! I wish this was actually taught in school because it would have saved me so much heartache as an adult wondering why I couldn't get pregnant.
