Oh, this has me crying. I bought this for my dad when it came out so many years ago. I was always a daddy’s girl but as I got older I lost the closeness to him and it hurt like heck. He had married a narcissist who didn’t like him being so close to his daughter and I couldn’t forgive him for it. He died one morning in December 2022 in Queensland (I’m in Victoria) and we didnt even know where he was thanks to her. Broke my heart. He wanted no funeral so it was like he never existed. She took his ashes, we have nothing. He was the centre of my life until my son was born when I was 30. Oh dad, love you so much. At least our last visit to you was a wonderful day, talking and laughing with your grandson for hours. Such a wonderful dad ❤️
I'm sometimes called a sensual hard guy, by my friends and collegues. But everytime I hear this song on my own I cry and it feels good, refreshening as a human soul should think of. Generations are part of our Lifetime.
My Dad was diagnosed with cancer just as this song became popular. I couldn’t listen to it! Had to leave the room for years. Luckily for me, I always had a great relationship with my Dad, but I took heed from this song and made sure to keep it that way. He beat it that time, but it got him 22 years later. I had no regrets by then. Thanks, Mike + The Mechanics, for opening my eyes at a young age to what my priorities should be. ❤
This song always reminds me of my dad. What a phenomenal, generational tune that carries on through the years. As always, you guys do a phenomenal job!
along with 'vincent' by don mclean, 'in my life' by the beatles, 'time' by pink floyd, 'the winner takes it all' by abba & 'positively 4th street' by bob dylan, this is one of the greatest songs ever-lyrically speaking!!!
Oh my gosh, Cloty, what are you trying to make me cry? 😢 my dad is still here, but he's really getting old.. we had an awful relationship.. he put me through hell when I was little, then I put him through hell when I was grown.. but in turn, he'd put me through hell again! I can't bring myself to tell him how he hurt me cuz he's old now, and I don't want to break his heart. We both had enough of each other breaking our hearts!💔
I'm sure there'll come a time somewhere, some day, when you're both able to show each other all the love you missed out on for each other in your lives. 💗
It is so important to tell your loved ones in the living year, because once they are gone you can't tell them. I love this song. I lost my dad in 1989 and was not there when he passed away and it makes me think of him even more. Love your reactions! 💔
I wish us men were more comfortable letting it out. I could see the color in your face change and fighting it back, It's ok to cry. This reminds me of my dad, and I can't hold back.
At the beginning of the video, you mentioned Boston. Are you from there? If you like songs that feature a chorus, I would suggest "Raise me up" by Mr. (Josh) Groban.
Another song that is so underrated and along the same vein is Noiseworks "RIP MIllie" this was written about Jon Stevens (Lead singer) mother death from cancer, it is a beautiful, powerful song from a great NZ band, Jon Stevens voice is probably one of the best rock voices around. ua-cam.com/video/hPEVsB5PPJs/v-deo.htmlsi=v7HL6QYqcgOtA6Sy
I know how much you love lyrics- check out “The spirit of a boy, or the wisdom of a man” by Randy Travis. As with all my suggestions- I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it. Can’t wait to celebrate at 8k!!

A truly great song beautifully sung by Paul Carrack.
The fellow in the vid with his son is Genesis' Mike Rutherford.

Paul Carrack is one of the best male vocal singers I know . This song brings back memories. Good times.❤
Masterpiece! 😍
Such a nice tune, but these lyrics are the best written of any I have heard. Ideas so well stated. Perfection.
Song was released in 1988
But reached #1 in America in 1989
