A lot of people miss the symbolism of the two choirs. It symbolizes - as the line in the song says - "Between the present and the past". It also symbolizes that we don't realize that we become adults so quickly that the time we have to 'make amends' is short and gone before we realize it.
Mike Rutherford wrote the song. He’s in the video and plays lead guitar. Phil Collin’s was in genesis which Mike Rutherford was also in. Burt Bacharach said that it was one of the most beautiful song both lyrically and musically he’d ever heard and believed it would be a classic for many many decades. It won a bunch of awards and is still one the most impactful songs ever written.
@@Azimov-REACTS Mike Rutherford is the guy playing the guitar (wearing the light coloured jacket). He was in Genesis with Phil Collins. The guy singing is Paul Carrack. Paul Carrack has sung with various groups including Squeeze. He has an amazing voice and tours each year (in his own right) to sell-out concerts.
The naval officer in the photo near the beginning is Mike's father Bill Rutherford, who was Gunnery Officer of HMS Revenge in 1940, and was a staff gunnery specialist in King George V in the final Bismarck battle.
This song still gets to me after all these years. I recently lost both my parents and the only regret I have in life is not telling them how much they mean to me.
Thanks so much,. Azimov - I requested this one.. very emotional... I understand your comparison to Phil Colins.. but I think Paul Carrack is a better singer.. much appreciated! - (p.s. - I have a great relationship with my Mom.. and all my siblings.. Dad was not around, and I'm female, so it's not quite the same, but I've recommended this song to several people... a couple of whom told me that it actually changed their lives...just beautiful)
Silent Running by Mike and Mechanics. Sooo controversial about what’s been happening to us, I don’t think you’ll find the video that blew up with views. I can’t find it anymore. But you can give it a listen from a different video.
Love, honor and respect your parents, as it, indeed, is too late when we die. Ephesians 6:1-3 King James Version 6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

If anybody doesn't get goosebumps while listening to this masterpiece must be dead .
I get the willies.
I have heard this sing a million times and it still gets me.
Mike and the mechanics need no comparison to whoever. They were just great at there time.

Mike Rutherford actually co-wrote the song with B.A. Robertson
No one made mention of how the choir changes in between youth and seniors. Theatrical, but meaningful
The phil collins link, they were together in Genesis, great reaction.
This song ran through my head for days when my father died. Took 4 days for me to find out and this song wouldn't leave my mind
Sorry for your loss, it is a very emotional song
Funny you compared him to Phil as Mike Rutherford (the Mike of Mike and the Mechanics ) was with Phil in Genesis …. Although he is not the lead singer
what...really??!! i he backing singer for Phil or something then? - haha such similar sounds from them both

He came from genesis with phill collins!!
He also said "I could've listened" too.
Mick Rutherford the guitarist was the guitarist for Genesis and the guy that wrote this song

Funny that you think of Phil Collins when you here this singer. He use to be with Genisus.
This young man was thunder-struck.
If you like emotional songs watch Brooks and Dunn " I Believe "
Amazing - never heard of them, so this has been added to my list 😊
