It was designed for U.S. SOPMOD program in conjunction with their requirements for a rugged optic mount not really a commercial market for hunters, so lacks the refinement found other offerings to date. Based on the feedback for lack of QD release levers was that operators input that QD over time can become loose so they opted for fasteners for service life, also the version that is SOPMOD certified is designed for the Vortex 1-6 Razor HD Gen II with zero MOA built into it. It does lack the modern slimmer profile commercial scope mounts but again it designed to be abused and maintain zero. I would like to see them update them as they are pretty old as of 2022 from their initial release date and at this price point leaves a bit more desired IMO

Well, Midway put the Leupold mounts on sale for $67. Since the optic I want to mount is only a $500 low power optic that probably wouldn't benefit from something like this anyway (and I have no plans to ever uninstall it once it's on), I'm hoping that it works out. My other Leupold mount has been okay so far.

Most name brand mounts are going to be at least 'decent'. I don't think they would willing put their name on something that either fails or damages a scope.

I just found your channel on recommendation from Navy Man. I own several high end scopes and mounts and love hearing from someone who knows what they are talking about. I love my Scalarworks mount for my Nightforce Atacr. I had one of these Geissele mounts and sold it within a couple of months for a Leopold Mark 8. The only thing Geissele does well is “super” overpricing. I have no problem paying vast amounts for quality and features but this is a big miss in my book.

The Half inch nuts were made for strength. Not to look pretty. This was designed at the department of defense's needs. Not to look nice. Half inch nuts are easy to rip off in the field with a pair of pliers. Not so easy to get a scope off with a hex nut that you likely don't have with you.

The twin recoil lugs had issues with mounting on a PTR-91 rail. Wound up having to file on one to get to fit correctly. It would be better if they just had one recoil lug instead of two for out of spec rails.

Umm, the reason for perfectly aligning it to install may have to do with the Super Precision Mount retaining zero when you take the optic off and place it back on.

Yeah, the Geissele mount is expensive. But what you found objectionable doesn't really bother me. However, I wonder how well the Geissele will hold a heavy scope in place on a larger caliber rifle (e.g., a .308 semiautomatic) over the long term?

    • @CDOES

I'm sure it'll be fine. But I'd rather a slightly beefier mount at that point. Like a Spuhr.

I bought one of these a couple years ago in 34mm to mount my trijicon 1-8 and I’m very satisfied with it. It’s been flawless and I got it on one of those weekend sales Geissele does for $265. Would I have bought a Scalarworks if I had known they existed back then? Maybe.

The nuts are the only way to get 1,400 lbs of torque. Engineers don't just factor in the way something looks, there is a specific requirement that is needed to be met for the contract.

I'm stage 4 cancer, and I refuse to be covered up with dirt. So I don't have time and money to get it wrong. I'm looking on e-bay today trying to find 2 scopes to fit my needs. • @Bobby_Uterus

So you would rather have the mount look a certain way by using smaller hardware than function correctly? The hardware they’re using is pretty much standard for Tactical rings. Why do you need to stick something under the scope when mounting? If there is a leveling issue, more likely than not the rings need to be lapped. This is typically only an issue with low end rings and mounts that have low tolerance. There is a reason Geissele has military contracts.

I am sorry to admit that even though I understand how the Chinese ripping off of intellectual property cost jobs here in the United States, some companies deserve it. I have bought and am still using Chinese clones of both Geissele and Surefire products with absolutely no issues. The mount above is not worth the $325 - $350 Bill Geissele thinks it is. The clones available on Aliexpress or Wish sell for less than $10. As for Surefire, those $329 M600 Scout lights? A $300 + flashlight? Really Surefire? No thanks, I'll buying my Scout clones for $25, and it comes with the remote switch for free.
