    This sentence was stated, can't take it back now ;) OK , ok I was a little tired, but this was a jaw dropping scene! Glen Affric must be one of the most beautiful Glens in Scotland and when I was presented with a view of snow capped mountains, ancient Calendonian Pinewoods, blue skies and lochans, I honestly think this is the , if not one of the, best views I have ever seen. Don't believe me, then head up to Glen Affric and see it for yourself - absolutely stunning!

    As an Englishman I'm so f-ing envious and covetous of the the Scots for having the best landscape in Britain (and perhaps the world). The nearest England gets to the wild barren beuaty of Scotland is the top end of the Peak District around Bleaklow, Kinderscout and Saddleworth Moor. The Lake District is nice, but too pretty and feminine a landscape (like the Cotswolds with lakes and small mountains added).

    Very fine work Murray. Best view? Perhaps, I wasn't there, but I can think of more than a few of your (classic by now) videos which still beat up anything else I've ever seen. Munros/Corbetts, who cares? I went across Ben More (South Uist) one evening last week and it felt like the top of the world to me. You're dead right about the mountains' best aspect - about halfway up a neighbouring hill gives the grandest perspective.

    I can't wait to get out when we're allowed again. I live in East Anglia despite my surname - you can't get much more opposite to your location for metres above sea level! Scotland is a bit too far for me to drive unfortunately but I'll be heading for Yorkshire for some camping on the quiet when I can. I'll make the drive to Scotland one day. Maybe when the kids are older. One of my dreams is to see a golden eagle. Have you ever seen one?

    Yes, Lyon is longer (and equally stunning on a summer's day), but Glen Affric is by far the most comprehensive and authentic glen for scenery in the Highlands - anmd even more so in May when there is snow on the hills and blue in the sky. Because it not only has the pine forests, but it has the scale, lochs and distant mountains which give the trees context. Kudos to the individuals in the Forestry Commission who slowly but quietly worked away over the last 60 years to protect the granny pines and manage the regeneration. Affric is worthy of true National Park status (in the American sense), but I am glad it was overlooked and was left to the local forestry guys to manage, without the distractions of mass tourism and visitor interpretation. Sometimes I think it wasn't overlooked, but it was intentionally left as just a 'Forest Reserve', either way it was the right decision.

    Love the videos, although at what point are you going to accept that your actually more than a bit of a photographer? Your work has clearly caught the eye of Gary Gough and Thomas Heaton, and I tend to side with them. Some of the compositions you have taken are breathtaking and a bit like Colin Prior’s take on Scotland. Your drone footage is also beautiful, although I don’t know much about drones. Need to give us a wee reminders to hit the like button now and then as I feel we watch the video and as the end music is playing were already looking for the next video.great stuff Murray, love it.

      It was just to help you know if you were on the highest cairn or what the names of other hills were and let us know. Lovely glen though.

    Murray sitting at the first cairn you had your main camera on your chest, but the audio from whatever you recorded with (second camera?) Iwas still very good. What is your video/audio setup?

    • @ScotlandsMountains
      @ScotlandsMountains  5 років тому +1

      wayne gamble it all depends on the conditions and weather at the time of the walk - an easy hike can become an epic if the weather closes in !

    Are all the old Caledonian Pine forests protected? Or can the gov. come in and make reservoirs. That would be a shame. Thanks for these vids by the way. They help me decide how I'll spend my time next visit.
