As someone who has worked in pet stores, the fact y'all are even putting in a micro amount of effort to learn about what you need for you pet makes you better than probably 98% of people who buy a gecko.

I'm so grateful for having found your channel before I got my gecko. Little man is 5 going on 6 years old, had him since he was a hatchling and he's the goofiest and sweetest little lizard, healthy as can be! He's currently living his best life in a 40 gallon tank, with a DHP, calcium, rotating diet, and a lot of love! Thank you for your videos!

When I was younger, I had my male and female gecko in a 50 gallon tank. While it was enough space for the both of them, I knew it just wasnt right, because I watched your videos. They didnt fight or anything, but I knew they still must have been really stressed out. Sadly I was too young that no one cared or thought I didnt know what I was talking about, so it took half a year for anyone to listen to me and for us to get seperate terrariums for them. They are both doing well now since its been a while, and I am very grateful for your videos, because they have helped me out a ton when I was unsure of some things about my geckos.

I got my first leopard gecko a good bit ago from a Scales-And-Tails. Chain store, but the employees were helpful and knew very well what to do! They warned me not to co-hab my little female, told me that calcium and vitamins are needed to keep her healthy, recommended both a heat lamp and a heating pad so it would stay at a good temperature, and fed her about five mealworms a day. Only thing I didn't agree with was their want to use repti-carpet, but that was just about it!

I went to a local petstore once to look for geckos. The owner told me i should get 2 because they will be bored alone. In a back room he showed me a tank with like 5 or 6 geckos in it. they were clearly fighting and one even lost its tail. Needless to say i took my business elsewhere and found a breeder an hour away. Now that i think about it maybe i should have reported that store somewhere for inappropriate animal handling.

8:15 If you hate the bugs, then get something like a morning gecko, or a crested gecko. They can go off just fine with repashea, basically just add the water to a powder and put it in the tank.

Yes, they can live on the powdered diet, however, they much prefer feeder insects like crickets and fruit flies for the mourning geckos. Not only are they good nutrition for your geckos, but they provide enrichment and hunting crickets gives them exercise.

I work in a small and local reptile shop, and this is my own experience and I FULLY agree with Lgy’s statements, but my leopard gecko was in a 4x2x2 and HATED IT, again, this is just my gecko specifically.
She can only be tong fed as she’s a rehome and seems to struggle with a neurological issue in terms of aim and balance.
And so i sized her down to a 2ft enclosure as she never moved much at all, and I struggle with insomnia and so would be up in the night, never would I see her anywhere apart from on top of the hide she deemed safe.
And since she’s moved, god has she been active and happy.
She’s been utilising all hides, loves the substrate so she can dig, and even comes out routinely every night for water. And seems to have much better perception in terms of aim.
    Again, my gecko specifically :)
But I find that most leopard geckos are GREAT In large enclosures. All I wanna say is listen to your specific geckos needs! Get them the required large enclosure, and if they hate it despite the clutter, size down as I did! ^^

Hello, I’m in a little of a sticky situation with my leopard gecko.
I have a two year old leopard gecko in a 20 gal tank, (30”x12”x12” I believe) and I’m going on vacation for around a week or so. I have someone to take care of him during that time including feeding, watering, and misting moist hide (he is going to shed most likely during the week). The problem is, my mother thinks the 20 gallon is way too big to bring to her house and back, and is suggesting to move him back into the 10 gal (20”,10”,12” again, i think so) that I replaced when he was one. I know it’s too small for him to actually thrive and exercise inside, and have all his decorations, so I’m a little worried. Will he be okay being in a small tank for some time? Or should I find another solution that would allow him to stay in his 20 gal? Great video btw, keep it up!

When my gecko inevitably gets stuck shed on his toes, I like to give him a shallow bath that only reaches right above his feet. Make sure the water is pretty warm, but not hot, and let the gecko stay in the bath for around 10 minutes. Then, take it out, and you should be able to peel off the skin quite easily with your finger, or a cotton swab. Good luck!

I use both a heating pad and a ceramic heat emitter for my buddy. The trick is to put the heating pad on the SIDE of the tank. I’ve found this makes it a lot easier to tell if it’s working or not, and it amplifies their hot side. I don’t recommend this for all setups, however if your gecko is a little cold and you don’t want to buy a ceramic lamp then it is a great way to boost heat. This works great in my Leo’s tank because I live in a colder place. Please NEVER EVER EVER use sand on a gecko. My first leopard gecko got an impaction in his eye due to sand. (I was eight, I had little control but we did move him to paper towels) Sadly he passed away a few years ago.

    Hi there,
I heard this was the best way to contact you, so I wanted to ask some questions about my current leopard gecko, since I think her setup could be improved and I am extremely dedicated to ensuring that my gecko is as happy and healthy as can be. (Sorry in advance for the long message) :)
Earlier this year, I adopted a baby leopard gecko, Echo. Currently I think she is about 6-7 months old. Echo is my second leopard gecko. My first one, Lea, was adopted when she was 3 years old. Unfortunately, Lea had many health issues since she wasn’t cared for well when she was young and only lived until she was 8. Lea didn’t act like a healthy leopard gecko, so having Echo is a new experience for me since I don’t know much about “normal” leopard geckos and their behavior. :)
    Current setup:
    - 100W Ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat set to 90 degrees F. It turns on at 6AM and off at 6PM
    - Arcadia Shadedweller UV Lamp. It turns on at 6AM and off at 6PM (I got this several weeks ago)
    - Reptile carpet
    - Moist hide with coconut fibers inside
    - small 3D-printed calcium dish
    - Exo-Terra Terrarium. Roughly 18” x 18” x 10”. I think it’s a 15 gallon.
    - I’m not too sure, but I think the tank gets to about 85-90 degrees F during the day. I have no heat or light on during the night.
    Current Issues:
    - think the tank might be a bit too small. I’ve seen on some of your videos that you recommend upgrading to a 20 gallon tank, but they are expensive and I don’t think I have space for one. I do have the option to build a bigger tank.
    - Echo doesn’t move much or bask during the day. Lately she’s been hanging out in her moist hide all day. I don’t know if this is because I got a UV lamp recently or because of other reasons.
    - I’m having a little trouble decorating without making the space too crowded.
    Questions:
    - I want to make sure Echo isn’t a lazy eater like Lea was. Is there an effective way I can feed Echo where she hunts and has to move to eat? She seems to lose interest when food goes out of sight. I’ve also tried just releasing insects into the tank, but they tend to end up in little nooks where Echo can’t reach.
    - I haven’t used any loose substrate because of the time and money involved with cleaning. Right now I am using reptile carpet. Is it okay if I stick with reptile carpet? Should I add something loose (like small rocks) to create different terrain in some areas?
    - Do you think my current setup is enriching and won’t make Echo bored?
What do you think of my current setup? What do I need to change? I’m mainly looking for very low-cost solutions. I’m pretty crafty and have a 3D printer and lots of other supplies if there’s a way I can make things.
I have a few pictures of my original setup and my improved (and in-progress) setup. Is there a way I could get those to you?
Thank you so much! I am a huge fan of your channel and you videos have been so helpful to me and my leopard gecko!
Have a great rest of your day!
    Adelle

I've had lots of people tell me that repti-carpet is really bad but my geckos have been on repti-carpet for the three years I've had them and have zero health problems. I wash it twice a week with warm soapy water and change it out every other week. I feel like people just don't bother with cleaning the repti-carpet which is how bacteria starts growing in it and gives it a bad reputation as a result. Sometimes, it feels like people are gate keeping by telling me to get them off the repti-carpet or give to someone who will "take better care of them" which makes me feel like a bad owner. The vet says they're perfectly healthy and they are always out and crawling around their cages.

    • @maggiehatcher1631
      @maggiehatcher1631 Рік тому

repticarpet can rip out your geckos toe nails and teeth and even when washing regularly with soap and water they cannot be entirely sanitized, you should switch to paper towel that you replace every cleaning if you can’t afford a more naturalistic substrate, it’s not gatekeeping people just want you to want the best for your animal and while you may not see any issues yet it’s better to be safe than sorry in the long run.
