When I got my first adolescent leopard gecko, unfortunately he'd dropped his tail in the container he came in. So I put him in a box where he couldn't climb out/hide anywhere and got (safe) ointment to put on his tush. When I came in with the ointment, he stretched tall on all fours and SCREAMED at me! It scared me so much LOL. The second time I put ointment on him, he bit and hung onto my thumb and since it wasn't painful I just let him do it. When he was all healed up, he got the cutest tear-drop shaped tail and we just got along so well. He would even squeak softly while standing on my shoulder. Every now and then I listen to the video I recorded of his squeaks. I miss him so much. 🥲

So, is it alright to pick up a juvenile Leo when she is shedding, it’s time to do a clean out but she’s shedding, im worried she might get scared and try to bite, or run off my hand, what do I do?
What about when they suddenly decide to make a run for it outside the tank? Whats the best way to handle that? If you go to grab them they will get spooked and be impossible to pick up.
they usually go into a corner let them calm down, watch from a distance. approach slowly and calmly. my leo is 1 year and still gets scared sometimes you just got to remember to be slow
What Kemi and fiction said: get them used to your sound, wait for them to calm down, then get them slowly. Also, a preparation step before you get them out or let them get a chance to exit the tank: make sure the space is gecko safe. No other pets in the room, no humans that might make sudden movements or noises, cover any holes or crevices the gecko might run into, etc. Some people make "playpens" for their geckos out of big boxes, or fence off problem areas so the gecko can't easily get out of sight. Basically, make sure that you control as much of the environment and area as possible, to reduce the chances they get spooked, and to reduce the chances that, if they get spooked, they'll run into danger. If that's covered, it makes it much easier to apply the things Kemi and fiction said. :)
@@phelan_pt Thanks. He seems to be ok with me picking him up now. But like my gargoyle gecko, they tend to suddenly run...or get spooked. I noticed my leo will get spooked by sudden movements. Thanks for the tip and for also letting me know its pretty common.
Yeah you just kind of have to pick them up. I would recommend scoop up, but hand in front blocking them from running in front, and then quickly but carefully putting them back in their tank.
My second gecko, Dreamfinder, was 2.5 when I got him from a good breeder. It’s taken five months for him to accept tong feeding, and that only when he’s in a hide. He will not accept touching. He will not come out of hiding. I cannot handle him unless I remove all his tank furnishings, which I know is stressful for him - but I needed to do a health check. It’s quite discouraging.
Aww, to be honest if you have to move a hide to pick him up, I'd go for it. You kind of have to at the beginning. It sounds as though he probably spent the first 2.5 years of his life not being handled very much, so it might take a little longer.
I’ve had mine for almost two months and every time I go in to try to touch it and runs and hides and doesn’t want nothing to do with me. How can I fix this problem?
Hey! I watch you’re videos All the time to help picking up my Leo. I have 2 questions. 1, does it hurt Leo’s when you pick them up? And 2, how do I travel with my Leo?
I have a leopard gecko she is mostly calm but stays in her cave but she does come out if shes hungie or shes just chilling and looking for warmth I hold her and gently on my hand I scared, my gecko meny times but it was not on perpous i some times drop the lid but i catch it before it hits the enclousire
ive had my leopard gecko for 6 years and hes always been pretty happy he was pretty outgoing. anyone could pick him up/ hold him and he would be fine he would chill with me while i watched tv and stuff, but i havent handled him just to like chill with him much in the past year or 2 but ive still held him and stuck my hand in his cage without any problem but i got 2 kittens last month and pretty much since then when i try to pick him up he gets spooked and does the slow tail wag and if i open up his enclosure to feed him or give him water of refresh his moist hide he will get jittery and sometimes try to bite me and he hasnt been sleeping in his warm hide for a bit and sleeping on top of his cool hide and im getting worried is there anything i can try to do? (Edit) He was hanging out in his warm hide today
Hey so my leopard gecko, Norman, was moved from a home once he turned 5 and was given to me, 11 year old alisah, and he's been using reptile carpet and recently I wanted to switch him to a new substrate so seeing everyone using digging stuff I bought creature soil and he keeps glass hogging now that I have given it to him so I took it our and put a terrarium filter fabric over it and my sister keeps telling me to take it off but idk what to do. It's also kinda messy. But if someone can tell me what to do it would be a great help
I definitely recommend putting the soil back in. It’s normal for big changes in their environment to stress them out at first, you just need to give him plenty of time to adjust to the change. Half textured tile half soil is a good option as well :)
@Nighting Gale thank you so much. Your really helpful, I have another tank with no reptile so I put the soil in there with all his old decorations bc I got him new ones and while I'm doing homework or getting ready or doing my hair I sit next to him while he's in the tank with creature soil so he can get used to it so I don't have to take it out or put it back in because last time it was very stressful for both me and him. The only problem I have is that he keeps getting soil in his water and all over his wet hide making me have to clean it every single day. Thank you again he already stopped glass hogging he's just been walking around.
My gecko got spooked (dont know why) and ran off like you said gizzmo did. I left him alone it’s now 2days latter and he still runs from me waves his tail at me and glass surfs. What should i do?
I built a little bond with my new leopard gecko and would hand feed her. After 2 weeks of this I tried to slowly pick her up, but it scared her a lot. now she refuses to eat from my hand again :(.
I’ve had my gecko for about 3 months now and I’ve been hand feeding him almost ever since I got him. He still hides all of the time, and when I try to hold him he just runs or bites me. Idk what do to.
I used to put my hand in the tank for Sahyu to get used to so she could get used to me. About 5 minutes or so a day. I also read her some stories aloud sometimes so she would get used to my voice. Edit: When my health is good enough these days, I offer her my hand. If she's in the mood, she'll get on my hand and I am suddenly a tree. Yup, just sink those nails on in you little scamp. I make sure to wash after I put her away, with those little thumbtacks of hers. XD
Early today my Leopard gecko climbed on my hand after I had put it in the tank then she climbed halfway up my am. After not being able to find a way down she started to wag her tail at me 😭 I set her down and went to the other side of the room. Then I slowly walked up to the tank once she stopped. Then she decided to climb a rock and stare at me.
How much does he weigh and how long is he from tip of nose to tip of tail? Your biggest male, (Diego?)? I have researched. Got 4 different answers. Maybe you can help me a little with this? Like your channel here. I would like to contribute. It's just that I follow several people here and I can't give everyone money. My male Leo weighs 90 grams and is 30 cm long. He is 2 and a half years old. Is this abnormally large? He's not overweight ;) I want to support you in any way I can
30cm is quite long, maybe he's a super giant? However, a super giant usually weighs a lot more. Diego is 95-105 grams, I'm not 100% sure how long he is.
What if your gecko is crazy and crocodile rolls if you pick them up? And if she climbs up my my hand on her own accord she will then begin a mad dash that includes jumping like a crestie. She’s been like this her whole life since she was a baby and she’s 6 now, it’s true I never properly tamed her but part of that is just because I worry so much for her safety every time I handle her
Ah that's scary. I wonder if shes runs because when you start to lift her it kind of catches her off guard? I really feel that when taming you've got to put the effort in at the beginning by doing a little bit every day. When people handle them once a week at the beginning its kind of like 'stop-start'ing the tame progress.
@@leopardgeckotalk That’s probably a big part of it. I got her when I was 9 and never properly got her used to handling and when I did bring her out I would have friends over and she would often escape in the room and I would have to retrieve her. I’ve always felt guilty for doing that to her and now that I’m older I don’t do that, but I have a feeling I may be putting too much blame on myself for it 😅 BUT you have inspired me to really go out and try to tame her! Once I switch out her hide so it’s easier for me to bring her out of the tank, I’m planning one trying to handle her at least every other day hopefully every but we’ll see how it goes
Hey can someone help me out, so I’ve had my gecko for a few years now and lately he’s been having a hard time eating, like he’s wants to eat but misses the food over and over again until he finally gets it but it takes a while just for him to eat one worm, if anyone has any tips it would be great, thanks
Hi i am really hoping u see this in time im wondering if i sould get this three year old gecko with a cage and accessories for 100 dollars or get a juvinile from a reptile pet store that takes really good care of thee reptiles for 250 dollars with cage and a tiny bit of accessories
If the three year old gecko is being rehomed, I definitely recommend getting them (assuming that they’re healthy). Just keep in mind that their setup is likely inappropriate, so you will likely have to replace some of the supplies/accessories he comes with.
Thank u for suggesting but i already got the baby but the older one was a bit neglected and looked healthy but the guy wouldn't answer any of our questions and he didnt seem available most of the time.but the juv seems to be settling in quite nicely. @@valkovic_peter I have seen many, many cases of females seeming ok together for years, then snapping and seriously injuring or killing each other. Sleeping in the same hide may be a sign of dominance.
I think if she continuously does it, then shes learnt that thats how she gets rid of you, so she'll do it more, and never understand that you're not a threat. So it might be worth handling her despite the bite.

1. It hurts them if you pick them up wrong.
2. Leopard Geckos should not travel due to the constant temperatures
I have a leopard gecko she is mostly calm but stays in her cave but she does come out if shes hungie or shes just chilling and looking for warmth
I hold her and gently on my hand
I scared, my gecko meny times but it was not on perpous i some times drop the lid but i catch it before it hits the enclousire
❤❤❤❤love Your Videos ❤❤❤❤ as informative as it is great❤❤❤
ive had my leopard gecko for 6 years and hes always been pretty happy he was pretty outgoing. anyone could pick him up/ hold him and he would be fine he would chill with me while i watched tv and stuff, but i havent handled him just to like chill with him much in the past year or 2 but ive still held him and stuck my hand in his cage without any problem but i got 2 kittens last month and pretty much since then when i try to pick him up he gets spooked and does the slow tail wag and if i open up his enclosure to feed him or give him water of refresh his moist hide he will get jittery and sometimes try to bite me and he hasnt been sleeping in his warm hide for a bit and sleeping on top of his cool hide and im getting worried is there anything i can try to do?
(Edit) He was hanging out in his warm hide today
I just got my juvinile Leopard gecko two weeks ago and i put my hand infront of her and she has been walking on it straight away.
Great video ❣️❣️
Do they like being held or pet because im thinking of getting one but i want something to hold and pet ( i already have a bearded dragon)
My leopard gecko hasn’t been leting me hold it for the past four months, it always wags its tail and I don’t know wat to do.
Idk what do to.
we just got an albino leopard gecko. :)
My leopard gecko lets me pick him up but every time he gets on my hand he tries to run up my arm real quick to escape the cage any tips?
Same
I used to put my hand in the tank for Sahyu to get used to so she could get used to me.
XD
I love the name
@@thatcoastergirltee It's short for Sahyuvonnos. I made it from a Skyrim dragon name glossary. Took months to make it. Phantom, Golden, and Strike.
@@Dragonemperess very cool
Aww there's nothing better than being accept by a gecko, when they just walk on your hand :)
My gecko doesn't come out exept for feeding. He is around 3 inches.
He's not overweight ;)
I want to support you in any way I can
30cm is quite long, maybe he's a super giant? However, a super giant usually weighs a lot more. Diego is 95-105 grams, I'm not 100% sure how long he is.
@@leopardgeckotalk And Diego is normal type? Then them are maby just big boys:) ❤ Thanks! 😀
U and Jessica Animal freind I wil suport. ♡ 💚 💜
Ive had to pick mine up several times, and he constantly tries to run, i do what i can but the poor dude is pretty scared of me usually.
honestly it really takes time. leaving your hand in there and letting them investigate can really help them, and consistency is key with them
Is there a chance she'd bite? I just rescued one and im scared and dont want to scare her
My leopard gecko has an eye problem I don’t know if it’s an eye infection or stuck on shed
Maybe just get it double checked at a vets :)
I’ve always felt guilty for doing that to her and now that I’m older I don’t do that, but I have a feeling I may be putting too much blame on myself for it 😅
BUT you have inspired me to really go out and try to tame her! Once I switch out her hide so it’s easier for me to bring her out of the tank, I’m planning one trying to handle her at least every other day hopefully every but we’ll see how it goes
And runs away From you when you release it
Hey can someone help me out, so I’ve had my gecko for a few years now and lately he’s been having a hard time eating, like he’s wants to eat but misses the food over and over again until he finally gets it but it takes a while just for him to eat one worm, if anyone has any tips it would be great, thanks
Have you tried helping him catch it. I have a short on how to do it. Click on the 'shorts' tab on my channel. Its not very old.
My gecko doesn’t come out because he is scared what do I do?
You may have to just lift the hide and pick him up :)
I handled her before i got her and she was acting normal for a juvenile and they were handled every day. They cared for the geckos very very much and they were sad to see them go and we knew she was healthy cause we personally know all the staff and owner and they take amazing care of their animals .
I got two leos females, one is always calmed and normal:) but another one is still scared, she keeps runing away, she is always hiding, i tried to move slowly to handle her, but everytime she spots me, she hide in her favorite coconut 🙁
Are they housed together?
@@nightinggale6470 yes
Let me tell you the whole problem: i love leopard geckos, but im kid and my parents never alowed animal in house. But after months, they alowed:) but geckos in our country were expensive, so we buy two females from guy, who doesn't cared of the... geckos were females, 2 years old but TWO geckos in 10 gallon tank, and the guy used Light 100W , and the when i get them, they were buried, now im trying to get them back, they now have more than 60grams and they now OK. But i had problem with feeding, because they eat just mealworms, now they can eat everything, but one of them is still in her hide, keeps runnig everytime she spots just slow Move.
I now i should gave them min.100 gallon tank, but parents think its ok🙄.this is my whole problem.@nignting gale thanks u keep responding. (Sorry for my bad english)
@@valkovic_peter please tell your parents that they need separate enclosures. If they’re not separated, there’s a very high chance that they’ll fight and seriously injure or kill each other.
@@nightinggale6470 really two females could fight ? Because my geckos still keeps to be together, they sleep in one hide, i don't think they will fight (sorry if this is stupid) but I asked other People who have geckos too and they said that having two females in one tank is not problem.
@@valkovic_peter I have seen many, many cases of females seeming ok together for years, then snapping and seriously injuring or killing each other. Sleeping in the same hide may be a sign of dominance.
my female does bite and holds on
I think if she continuously does it, then shes learnt that thats how she gets rid of you, so she'll do it more, and never understand that you're not a threat. So it might be worth handling her despite the bite.
Someone help please so my gecko is pretty old but his tail has shrunk so much that it is supppppperrr skinny and he is not eating at all, is he dying??
Unfortunately significant weight loss is never a good sign. He needs to be taken to an exotic vet ASAP. How old is he?
@@nightinggale6470 like 14
@@nightinggale6470 my dad will not spend the money to take him to the vet
its 7 mouth the geko whats ur gekos name
It’s not scared of me, Morley I’m scared of spooking my gecko, and they’ll drop their tail so I wait for my gecko to come to me rather than trying to pick them up directly
My gecko bites my fingers thinking there mealworms
What do you do if you're a leopard gecko Bit you?
My buddy hides when I try to handle him. He won't even take a head pat
Ah that's a shame, you may just have to take him out of his hide to handle him to begin with.
@@leopardgeckotalk thanks! It won't spook him will it. I'm afraid to bother him. I don't want him to drop his tail or something
leopard geckos have my heart. why o why must they be insectivores 😩
haha you get used to it lol
How does survive on the wild if it is so fragile? 😂
Maybe leopard geckos just like British accents?
you never know 😂
So I accidentally scared my gecko to death by dropping his heat lamp into his enclosure when I was trying to adjust its height. He’s started running, hissing, hiding, refusing to heat on his rock… how do I fix it lol he’s new to me also
