Deep lyrics + Dope Music = Tool 🔥 Oh BTW... everyone was confused when they first heard it. You are all of us.... that's why we watch. Keep going bro, these dudes are amazing. Lo-Key you were right, he does wanna become a better person. He just has a different way of saying it. Spiral 🌀 out
He’s talking about trying to evolve. The “shadow self” is the part of ourselves associated with negativity, doubt, fear etc. “stepping through my shadow” and “coming out the other side” is about overcoming all the bad shit to emerge as a more enlightened being. This is from Carl Jung (Jungian is pronounced “Yoong -ee-un”). “46&2” refers to a theory that “primitive” humans have 42 chromosomes (21 pairs) plus 2 sex chromosomes. Modern man has 44 plus 2. The theory says when we evolve into the next phase of human evolution we will evolve to having 46&2 chromosomes. Tool has a lot of music that speaks about evolving, growing, and maturing. Less so on their first EP and first album - those are more “angry Tool”, but they kick ass. Enjoy the Tool journey! Every single Tool song is amazing. The greatest band of all time, in my personal opinion.
Fantastic reaction, looking forward to some more tool reactions! The Pot is always a good intro song if you're looking for suggestions...enjoy the journey 😎
Here for Tool. Dive deep friend and you too will be watching other people experience it to relive the journey.. . It's hard to believe how music will open your mind and life experience - just ask yourself why so many people want to see others discover it. It's big.
Generally speaking, early 90s Tool is anger, addiction, and frustration then moved toward awareness and understanding as they came up on 2020. Offensive broad strokes, but if you're randomly going to bounce around it's good to know. If you want one that's deep but pretty easy to get try, "Right In Two." 🌀 TBH, I don't totally "get" all of MJK's lyrics, but damn, when they break through it's a next level track.
You got there. The Science is part of it. The psychology is another. Jung taught on the Shadow Self, the parts of ourselves that we don’t like. But it is necessary to confront in order to grow beyond what we are.
Its a band like no other for sure the music is always fire the lyrics are always a good dive and up for interpritation. You post tool the army will show up. Enjoy my dude theres not a bad song i jam the discography daily at work never gets old
Earlier versions of humans had 42 & 2 pairs of chromosomes, current version has 44&2, next is 46&2. The shadow is a concept created by Carl Jung, your shadow contains all of your negative emotions and feelings specifically the darker ones like rage and hate. Shadow work is when you confront these negatives and improve yourself, becoming a better version of you. This is the path to 46 &2. The song is basically saying until we confront our demons we will never evolve past them.
If I recall correctly, this is Maynard applying Jungian philosophy to the fact that he was about to become a father. Maynard is so family-focused. As a biologist, I love the speciation event of adding just another pair of chromosomes. Double entendre.
Well, if you're tired of listening about a woman's W A P and want to listen to something that actually makes you think, Tool is the band for you. Stupid people singing about stupid stuff for other stupid people gets boring real quick when you realize there's other options.
I love your curiosity to decipher the song. I see your channel is new. I would like to get on board your music journey. I watch tons of reactions, and I listen to tons of music. I can start feeding you some suggestions if you don’t already have a list. If you can use my help, I think I can help you find different sounds and some will be breathtaking. So, I sub’d, and if you want suggestions as you start your journey, I would be happy to help. Nothing thrills me more than sharing great music, and hearing what they think of it. Stay awesome!
@@LilBoutAlot Here are some very meaningful musical moments that I think will help in your exploration. These artists also have huge followings, so you will be flooded with new requests. People tend to search by artist / song to see a reaction. You will get buried in Tool suggestions now - and that is a good thing. They are awesome. A good call for them would be the live performance of Sober from lollapalooza (spelling?) ua-cam.com/video/u7lweNCCwS0/v-deo.htmlsi=YVUluV57OuD_avCL Next, I suggest you try Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb live from the Pulse concert. ua-cam.com/video/7kWl-ZGMwkQ/v-deo.htmlsi=PPsB_xRpmtKyu3mD Next, I suggest Aurora - her live performance of Through the Eyes of a Child ua-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/v-deo.htmlsi=4UDMAhuxdjXrTXKN and Runaway (the official music video) ua-cam.com/video/d_HlPboLRL8/v-deo.htmlsi=TQRaeZ-vepD8iYce. Next, Stevie Ray Vaughan doing "Texas Flood" live at the El Mocambo. ua-cam.com/video/KC5H9P4F5Uk/v-deo.htmlsi=Hi5N1aKDfody-SXO Next, I suggest The Civil Wars with their song "Poison and Wine" ua-cam.com/video/fNlxKH9Jtmc/v-deo.htmlsi=rri1MKNrgMPFeP6J. I can give you tons more, but I think that if you hit a couple of these, you will find yourself slammed with suggestions from many different genres. Others that I think are important, but you have probably already been suggested - NF with his tune "Intro", Pearl Jam singing "Black" live MTV unplugged, Portishead singing "Roads" live at Roseland NY, Metallica with "One", Megadeth with "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due", The Animals with their music video for "House of the Rising Sun", and Halsey singing "Without Me" live - ua-cam.com/video/goa1A_pbNwk/v-deo.htmlsi=1zggultZ72dYt_tJ If you have any questions, just respond back. I really want to help. Basically, I think if you react to enough of the "really good" stuff early on, then you will receive tons of suggestions about the same bands or similar ones. What I gave you has lots of variety, which is really important for you to enjoy your journey. You can hit several songs on this list, then look at the flood of comments and suggestions you have. This is like a "starter kit". You will do well. Just find music that hits your heart, and let your fans know what that is. You will receive so much back. Thanks for your hard work so far and in the future. Stay awesome!
"Metaphysical," is the word you were looking for, and I'm not sure it's possible to think "too deeply," about this song's potential meaning. Spiral out, keep going.
Hey bro, listening to this band will raise your IQ by about fifty points. Just pay attention when you're listening . If there's lyrics in the song , have them available while reacting . It's about the evolution of man. Prepare to spiral out . Just Keep going!!!!!
The explanation you read (and what some commenters are parroting) is mostly misunderstanding of genetics, which comes off as pretty racist. Saying Aboriginals have 22 + 2 chromosomes is basically calling them sub-human. It is possible for a human to be born to 46 chromosome parents, and survive, with only 44 chromosomes, but it is pretty rare. Usually caused by inbreeding. The song is about personal growth, through a fictional metaphor about evolution. Like a sci-fi explanation that if we grow enough we will spontaneously require another pair (& 2) of chromosomes over the 23 pair (Forty Six) we currently have. Not scientifically accurate at all (for example, I think Chimps do have 48), but still a cool lyrical way to explore it. Basically, anyone here (or on other internet sources for lyric or song interpretations) claiming this song is literally about human evolution is both misinformed (and undeniably propagating the misinformation) and most likely missing the point of this song. And probably at least low-key racist.
I feel sad for you. Not in a condescending way, but in a “I despair about the next generation” way. As you get older, you should learn shit outside of you comfort zone. You should welcome things that make you uncomfortable. The reason we have so many problems is that there are people who say they aren’t racist because their “best friend is black” and other bullshit. Listen to others, read, and most of all, try to accept or at least (I hate the word, but I must) tolerate views that you are uncomfortable with. Props for listening to Tool. If there’s a band that makes people more uncomfortable than that, I pressed to say it.
You know if you have no idea what it retires to physically play the song percussion wise and rhythm wise, you just miss a lot of it. That’s not wven getting into the lyrics. And the lyrics aren’t written in the same rhythm as verse chorus verse. It’s like poetry that is then fit to the music.
Listen to Tool's entire discography from beginning to end and it will open a universe within yourself that you didn't know existed
I’m definitely going to dive deeper into the music ! 💯

Metalheads LOVE hearing non metalheads react to metal. You'll get a lot of subs and a new taste in music.
Trying to understand the lyrics is like trying to follow the time signatures of the drums

Shadow work is what has to be when you cleanse through Affliction.
Shedding the old to step into the new skin.
I mean, you got meaning from the song which is the only thing Maynard wanted. We all come into a Tool song saying "ok, what's he trying to say".
I think you might want to check some more.. How about The Pot by Tool?

Most Metal lyrics are full of allegory. They're much more intelligent than people give them credit for, and they're musicians as well.
