Just replaced the hot water cartridge in my American Standard bathroom faucet for a few bucks. Before I even knew I could change the cartridge, I was looking at a brand-new faucet (the same one) for $150 and $20 shipping. Glad I found this video. Thanks.

The washer on my dripping 2 handle bathroom faucet from American Standard had the same white, degraded looking condition. Replacing it with a new black O ring (37 cents) didn't make a difference, but was worth the try for the cost. Replacing the entire cartridge (~$16 at Ace) did work. This is faucet valve is a simple set up and easy to service, but it wasn't initially obvious what to do. Your video was a huge time saver. Thank you.

This is exactly what I need to do - same issue, same faucet! Can you please tell me where you got your replacement washer from? And/or is there a particular size? Thank you for making this video!!

I can’t get the handle to line up correctly. It keeps moving after I tighten the screw.

Went to my local (and GREAT) plumbing supply store (not box store) and they told me that American Standard doesn't sell the washers or 0-rings for the cartridges and I'd have to buy new cartridges. My collection of washers and rings didn't include any the right size for the white ones. Bummer, as the fix is so easy!

I have the identical faucet that you use in your video. I changed the leaking hot side perfectly. Since the cold side is the same age as the hot side, I decided to change the cold side as well. I changed the cartridges. However, I can not get the handle on the cold side to lineup properly. What am I doing wrong? Please answer soon!

I had the same problem until I realized I forgot to put that brass adapter on (in this video it is black). Once I put that on, everything worked well.

That's not a bad idea, but I would go to a "regular" hardware store. Big boxes (HD and Lowes) only carry the most popular selling parts for any repairs. They probably won't have one to fit if it is not a standard or good-selling size.

where do I buy the cartridge? is there a # for this cartridge?

any hardware store will have it, I got mine from Home Depot. Because I always buy the wrong thing from HD, I took my old one with me to compare. Make sure you know the brand of faucet, mine is American Standard like the video

How do I know if it is the hot or cold water leaking?

    • @MoonMan1956

Turn off the hot water supply below the sink. If it stops leaking, it's the hot side. If it doesn't stop leaking, it's the cold side.

I had the same problem because of the greenish corrosion. I soaked a paper towel with white vinegar, placed it over the old cartridge. Came back in an hour and was able to loosen it. Also, use a crescent wrench, not a channel lock. It holds it much better when twisting.
