Solo is so sick man..... Synyster & Zacky are absolute legend..... the whole band is a ledgend
It's funny to see people bitching about this song's resemblance to Symphony of Destruction, unaware that each song in this whole album is an homage to classic metal songs...
Jurakan EXACTLY. People just jump to conclusions, without even doing any research whatsoever. I don't get it.
Mad men define what mad is.
Nerd stats
No trial no case for reason 😂
Its like just shut up enjoy it or get the fuck out of here.
avenged sevenfold always cheering me up when i feel depressed

VenoumusGammer ya it is
Gone away
Nop
VenoumusGammer it’s right up there with Megadeath’s Symphony of Destruction lyric wise.
Nope
I want to cry every time he says ,"Please don't leave me ". Im always like I won't leave you baby I promise
That's what I'm saying♡♡♡
Amber Dempsey baby come back
OK people, if you actually paid attention to the interviews about the album they state that they wanted the new album to sound like older metal. This means war sounds like sad but true, the instrumentals not the lyrics. They wanted their writing style fused with the sound of classic metal. If you know anything about the band a lot of their work has been biblically influenced. Chapter 4, unholy confessions, the bands name for Christ sake, their first albums name. So on and so forth. This album is a little dark due to the fact they wanted to get the feel of classic metal with their writing style. If you all were "fans" you'd see that. As for this means war its the one song on all of their albums that are dedicated to the soilders. They are big supporters of the troops. Give the band the respect that they deserve. If you're gonna complain and bitch and moan about it I'd love to see you become as famous as they are and as talented as they are. Rant over. Goodnight
Sorry I meant coming home is dedicated to the soilders not this means war just saw that.
morgan turner SO TRUE...
no one gaf

Emerson Trench EXCUSE ME, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING ABOUT THE BACKGROUNDS OF MY FAVORITE BAND, obvioisly you don't so what's the point in wasting time commenting on this, seriously no one wants you ruining their vibes just saying and people DO care which is why there arebso many sold out concerts when it comes to Avenged Sevenfold
Don't compare, Just listen to it.

Yes
This and Coming Home are so fucking underrated \m/
I know right
I have been a fan since album 1 and yes my friend a bunch of songs aren’t getting the attention they deserve! You guys probably feel me when I say A7X is life
Can we talk about how 2:51 sends chills down the spine? I swear Syn Gates has learned to speak with his guitar. How is there emotion in his guitar playing??
OMG I know why this album is called Hail to the King. It's a tribute to all of the metal greats, the kings, if you will.
+Reid Gowan it's called that because the first song (originally [I think]) was "Hail To the King"
but now, it's Shepherd of fire for some reason
+GuardianDronGaming the first son is Shepherd of fire as tribute to the rev
+GuardianDronGaming The whole album is a tribute to all the people who helped them in their career and influenced them
Isn't St. James the tribute?
Heretic, Coming Home, Crimson Day, and Acid Rain.
Yes. This album is nothing like their early stuff but these songs are so good.
Matthew Rogers Yes!!!!!
Matthew Rogers planets, requiem?
? Requiem yes. What about Shepherd of Fire?
Ohiomoon18 heretic the best of album for my
Wow, the way whoever wrote the lyrics (probably M Shadows) is able to communicate is beyond comprehension. A clear artistic and aesthetic communication. Unbelievable. I just saw the lyrics for the first time after listening to this song a lot last days and I was totally amazed. Respect to the whole A7X. And by the way, what a freaking Solo!
This song heavily reminds me of the book/play known as the Crucible. The Crucible is about the Salem witch trials where due to the lies of the group of girls many were hung including people worthy of being called saints. The judges called them all mad when they were the true mad ones hence "mad men define what mad is" and despite the honesty of character of those accused they were put to death "honest man in chains but that don't matter anyway my judgment day" and the court case was completely fake "no trial no case for reason". In the end the true Heretics were the accusers and judges.
Saw that homage as well and honestly the Salem witch trials are probably the basis for the song
Possibly my favorite song off hail to the king easily one of syns best solos
Damn, what a great song. That acoustic just sets it off.
As someone else also said, this isn't Satanic, nor is it necessarily anti-Christian, it's metal, a genre that focuses on darkness and angst. And even if it was making a deliberate religious statement, I see it as a sarcastic counter to specific over-the-top Christian (or other mainstream religion) beliefs about everything being black and white, right or wrong, heaven and hell, when it isn't. Since the song named witches, take Wicca for example. Not every witch is Wiccan, and not every Wiccan is a witch, but they probably go hand-in-hand about 60-70% of the time. Now look up the "Wiccan Rede". Among the many morals and laws of that religion are laws to not harm others and to not cast magick on others without their permission except in emergencies (in Wicca, that spelling is correct; a way to differentiate from Harry Potter or stage magician type magic). Modern Druids no longer partake in animal sacrifice and abide by fairly similar morals. Joan of Arc was considered a heretic, but whose right was it to speak for her and say with any certainty that she did not hear and see the spirits she claimed came to her? Has anyone encountered a ghost? Does that encounter make you somehow tainted? Some religions, Christianity included, are only just beginning to accept things like homosexuality, but very few would take news of a modern Pagan in their presence well at all. Those extremely judgmental religions are making progress, but it's frustratingly slow. To reiterate, if this song is trying to make a religious statement, in my opinion it is not about Satanism, but about the worldwide acceptance of all that expansive gray area as a whole, for black is simply the darkest shade of gray, and white is merely the lightest shade of gray... and metal is metal.
Thank you, as a Satanist, who lives in the same as both a wiccan and a Christian, it warms my heart to know people still understand.
I'm reading all that
oh my fucking god that solo is awesome
EVERY SYN SOLO IS TRUE MASTERFUCINPIECE
True, true. Gates and Avenged are fucking beastly!
More palm muting would make avenged amazing, but unfortunately that's not their style
It's one of my favorite solos by syn
YES
This is one of my favorite songs I've heard ever, compounded by who I am and what I've been through in life.
This might be my favorite song off of Hail to the King
+Angelo Esquibel Same here ^^ totally my favorite from this album !
Favorite song but this whole album is a banger from hell.
I like how you can hear little droplets of past metal bands in almost every song where you can hear where they drew inspiration from and kicked in the door and took over and made it their own.
This album is a masterpiece imo.
The whole album feels like something that would scare the doomslayer
3:32 is the eargasm
You mean one of the most epic guitar solos ever right?
1:14
Witches and saints: *Am I a joke to you?*
DON'T TREAD ON ME now I am laughing when I hear this part
Great lyrics video! Very nice quality and the font goes well with Avenged Sevenfold's style of music.
I like the font but find it hard to read sometimes, But that's just me
I hate it when people complain about this song being to much like Symphony of Destruction. Hail to the King is pretty much a tribute to the bands that inspired them
I’m pretty sure there’d be more people comparing how similar this song is to another. The same goes with Shepherd of Fire, Coming Home, and This Means War. How do you know HTTK was supposed to be a tribute? The musical style of HTTK was to pay homage to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, the roots of classic rock and metal, respectively. Also, the lead and title track of the album clearly doesn't pay homage to any band, the same with just about every other song. The actual songs aren't tributes. It doesn't matter if they sound similar. You shouldn't be surprised people are complaining. I hate it too, but it's understandable.
I see a lot of people saying this song is probably about the medieval ages and witch trials. While i do not disagree with this view i have a different view. I think the themes and motifs of this song can be applied to the present. "Mad men define what mad is, Turning witches and saints to ashes." People who are mad with power decide a lot of our government policies and laws today through lobbying and giving money to campaigns for their own benefit. The witches are people who don't follow the set social and political system and these people are often called crazy or "mad". Saints are people who try to change the system for the good of the people and they often find it hard to. There are more lyrics i could draw upon these are the ones that stick out most to me. Anyway, that's how i view this awesome song. I'd love to know some of y'alls opinions
Finally someone who understands this concept. The idea of what defines "madness" is often constructed by society. I just never thought about this song in that way.
Stephen Brown yes i agree with you to an extent. You left out the part in which those with power have always defamed, condemned, excommunicated, and turned the public against all those that disagree with them. In current times people in power are not as blunt as burning people at the stake. People simply "commit suicide" with a 50 cal. Between the eyes
if you ever been to a mental health ward, it's quite literal. "mad men define what mad is"
Natalie Brown I love how you just described that. I see your point and when you put it like that, it’s pretty symbolic actually. The bottom line is this: Heretic is a damn good song!😂😍
From mad book and people burning monks to the maelius malificarum to the reign of terror to salem to today this song will always be relevent.
one of those songs where you up the volume a notch or two
“Please dont leave me” THIS MAN SPITTIN
It's all part of the plan Dutch.
Also nice to know you are a man of taste.
This song fits The Arbiter from Halo perfectly.
I think it fits the Salem Witch Trials better, but I can see where you're coming from
Darkphilim OMG YEAS
@@Epicmonk117 or better yet, listen to these lyrics and think people being wrongly accused today. Fits perfectly

Theres a music vid of that 😀
I hate how people say like megadeth or like they copy songs like this means war from Metallica from sad but true they grew up listening to them and other bands they didn't copy like let's say there just like kids looking up to adults like they want to be like them well that's A7X they like to be like other bands they grew up with stop with the fucking fighting they are not copying just enjoy the music
I agree. its music and should be enjoyed not to be argued about.
+Joshy Savage Hate is a strong word bud. Don't let others affect your perception. In other words smoke one and enjoy the music. \m/
omg you are so right😂😂
There's a difference between influences and copying, avenged sevenfold is my shit, I love this band, natural born killer, Brompton cocktail are my shit, but The entire hail to the king album stole the layouts of the songs and melody a with slight changers to the riffs
+Nathan Botkin yeah you know why? it's a tribute to those bands! they do it out of respect. if you truly love avenged you'd understand
Another great song from HTTK! Man, I love that album.
this song is so beasty great song gets me hype

3:55 After listening to this song a dozen times I still can't tell if that part sounds awesome or awkward. It stands out at least. Like it's just slightly off-key.
So much good music, it spams my favourites list. Hahah.

Will do. And yeah the ads are ridiculous on here.
Ohh yes this is so on point love this song ❤️💜
It has some similarities to Symphony of Destruction , but all in all I don't believe it's a rip off or a copy at all. I believe it stands alone. Avenged Sevenfold are a talented band and hope to hear more from them in the future !
@CDG There seriously needs to be more people like you. Nicely put. :-)
I love the fact that this song reminds me of symphony of destruction
what a catchy song, great work a7x!

Huh, that interlude around 2:40 is exactly the same as Megadeth's Reckoning Day (around the same timestamp too!)
Spyros Zoumperis Glad someone else caught that :) this whole song is a tribute to them

X_Skyleton_X yea I LOVE this song
you'll never find a better guitar solo anywhere
In a world where buying tires was scary and friendly service was a myth.....
love this song
I find it hilarious that Avenged Sevenfold have set such high standards in their earlier albums, that when they released these last couple of albums like this and The Stage, some people say they have started to “lose it”. When really these albums are still far better in comparison to most of the ones other modern day bands put out. I get it, I also like the earlier albums better, but it doesn’t mean these aren’t great in their own right at all.

I’m will save you guys though the problems I MENT THE CHOSEN ONE ☝🏾 👑✨💪🔝
Pure Awesomeness
Who is in love with those arpeggio licks of Syn?
3:06 Please don't leave me..... ..Was the most touching part.
Loveeee this song
0:25 - "descend" has an S in it :-)
Favourite song on the whole CD! Great job on the vid too! Now, on to the content of the song and CD in general... of course it's about the witch hunts, both in the States and here in England! How innocent people were wrongly accused and killed in some of the most gruesome ways imaginable. I feel a big part of the song's message is to express the band's feelings on freedom of belief (maybe or maybe not Wicca/Paganism in particular). Being Wiccan myself, I relate to this song in a big way. As far as the CD itself... I wish all the idiots would quit the "it's a rip-off album!" shit! As others mentioned in these posts, it's a "tribute" album and the band members have even commented as much. So give it a rest, haters! And as a side-note... have any of you (you know who you are!) ever heard of a SPELL-CHECKER!?!? The amount of illiteracy I see on here is sad and astonishing! >end rant now
2:38 - 3:06. Sounds just like Buried Alive. Did they do that on purpose? Maybe as like a throwback? It sounds way more badass though!
Jadensvideos yeah it could be a throwback kinda like a salute. Like for example in Metallica's song King Nothing, at the end he says "off to never never land" as a salute to Enter Sandman. Pretty cool:)
I never knew he says that! Thanks for letting me know!
Jadensvideos may sound like it but it’s in a completely different key and it’s a different chord progression
That guitar solo is amazing
4:02
You'll thank me later
My favorite part of the solo
Great song to play while you play town of Salem specially when you play a inocent towny (stuped invests)

one of best songs a7x
Lyrics: You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch people's heads a'roll
A'roll, a' roll
Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction
Acting like a robot
Its metal brain corrodes
You try to take its pulse
Before the head explodes
Explodes, explodes
Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction
The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
A'warring for the heavens
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall, tall
Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction

This concept can be applied to any ideology not simply Christian. Ideology will take hold of you into making you believe something that isn't real. The universe is much too complicated, empower yourself. That's how you slowly start healing a society
I swear this song was written about the Cult of C'thon from Grim Dawn. The lyrics are spot on
this song is my new favorite
I just love A7X :)
This song appears to refer to not the persecuting christians, but the persecution OF christians by it's most aggressive offender, Catholicism.
The reason for it referring to a christian is seen numerous times. One, it refers to it turning witched and *saints* to ashes". Catholicism refers to noteable mythological people as saints (aswell as apostles), whereas christians believe every believer is a saint.
When it refers to a "honest man in chains" it refers to a biblically righteous man being put to death by the catholics. This has happened numerous times throughout the witch trials (as seen in crucible) aswell as outside (search "bloody Mary").
When it says "please dont leave me" and "i've walked a fragile line", it is in reference to the accused man pleading with God to stay with him.
These are just some parts, cant type all of them on my phone.
damn bru that was some insane guitar riff
The song you fight to the death to
This is when you wake up from being Satan and become God over him that God allows you to be as EQUAL With Him!!!!! Truth Is Truth!!!
I am a diehard Metallica fan, but I must admit that this song is pure awesomeness, go A7X!!!
Well this is a stolen megadeth song not metallica song so...
@@joeburke490 What are you on? I never said this is a Metallica song
i fucking love that riff ... no matter how far i go i can't live one day without listening to it
go listen to the instrumental version of this song if you wanna know what i mean
Looking back on this, doesnt it remind anyone of the salem witch trials
Christopher Roberts more of the inquisition
resonates so much for minority people, be it as race, religion, or ethnicity, or sexuality. the prejudice are real.
Just realized the riffs at 2:52 and 3:20 sound exactly like the opening riff of Carry On
Am I the only one that gets reminded of journey in the chorus
😍 Indonesia avenged sevenfold
Honestly. I like this album as a whole a lot better than their self titled.
I love you, A7X
