A lot of people doubted Avenged Sevenfolds ability to bounce back from The Rev's death. This album and their most recent is just proof that their resilience is astounding. This song is just bad ass.
The song "Why does God hate us" was released in The Rev's tribute

I wonder what walking out of a studio after recording a FUCKING MASTERPIECE feels like... A7X lived it

Chris S don’t forget Metallica, Linkin Park, and Skillet. Them too.
PeterGaming 13 AC/DC too

One off my favorite songs in the world I love Avenge seven fold
My uncle just passed away, this was the most recent on his Facebook. He always had good taste. I will forever miss our late night video chats, & I will cherish the memories. Rest easy Uncle Drew.
RIP
RIP uncle drew. Respect
I'm sorry to hear that. It's been 10 months according to your post, and hopefully you feel a lil bit better. Rip uncle drew. Rest easy.
Sorry for your loss brother... Stay strong until all of us come home again and meet our loved ones...
That guitar solo is quite possibly the best guitar solo of all time. BLOWS MY MIND EVERY TIME. Synaster Gate's is arguably the best lead guitarist of this generation.
Sung Yul Taylor absolutely, this band brings 110% every time it's unreal. But yeah Gates is underrated I feel. Don't hear him talked about enough
It's definitely my favorite A7X solo. Taking up a third of the song is just amazing.
It's frankly one of the most boring solos I've ever heard
Yessir. THEY ARE A REAL BAND.
Sung Yul Taylor I don't know, kirk Hammett still exists
One of Syn's best solos in my opinion.
Couldn't agree more! This song is the standout of the album for sure!
+Reid Gowan all his solos are the best xd
I think it's def 1 of his best. Little complex and so beautiful
Great solo
Its not Syn's solo actually, 3:40 onward is Papa Gates according to what he's said on his Facebook page, and they also credit him in the Album booklet.
Thanks for helping keep REAL hard rock/heavy metal alive Avenged. RIP Rev.
Yeah, I can't get all this hate towards a7x... They're one of the few (big) bands keeping metal alive nowadays.
Roberto Nome But they aren't metal... they are metalcore and Hard Rock
+Emmawolflover Miller If you have actually listened to them, you'd know that some of their albums (*cough* Waking The Fallen*) contain heavy metal songs as well.
Also, Nightmare and The Stage are very much proggy.
Roberto Nome That's indeed metalcore, I'm not hating on the band though.
Waking The Fallen is. Yeah. Metal. Not every song, But, Still. It's probably their heaviest album to date. Aside maybe HTTK? But, Don't quote me on that. I doubt my ability to properly judge music categories.
Music allows for each individual listener to interpret a song as they please. This song became my favorite song above all else when I first heard it. I listen to this and imagine this to be the thoughts of a seasoned soldier of war and a journey of the phases of his/her life and the many instances that they return "home", physically, mentally, and spiritually. Such a beautiful song.
do u like listening to songs for their meaning? just asking, no hate from me
absolutely. Not all the time of course because sometimes I just enjoy the song for the way it sounds or the way it plays out. The songs that really put me over though are the ones that have a great meaning behind it.
Your description is pretty much what this song is expressing
Your absolutely right. I was a soldier and listening to this song makes me think of when I came home from Iraq.
Dude just stfu
5:34 - The End is the best part that gets me every time! It either makes me happy or sad. Its a very touching part in my opinion
If you haven't air guitared to this 3:40 - 4:20 solo you are not human being..
Ikr
I have a real guitar!!
+jesse manning sᴀᴍᴇ
+Heisenberg You're dead. How?
YES!!!!!
Honestly, I feel like this song was inspired by the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer. Think about it: Odysseus sailed over the ocean, encountered many creatures including a Cyclops, the Sirens, Two great sea monsters, the cattle of the sun god, and even a Creature who turned sailors into pigs thus the lyrics "Sailed the seas... fought my many demons". Odysseus prayed to the god Athena who lives on mount Olympus in the heavens corresponding to the lyrics "I prayed to Gods in the skies." Haven't read the book in a while but I think he traveled down the River Stix and met Hades thus "I stood in hell, and looked the devil in the eyes." I could go on and on but I just wanted to point out that the similarities are uncanny.
That's really cool
+Toxic Psycho Hah nice one! Interesting perspective/observation you know you could be right lol. I love this song so much :-)
I've always thought the same thing
Good observation!
its a song from ironmaiden
Honestly, how can anyone critisize this song. It's fucking incredible.
absolutely
Hipsters. This album gets a lot of crap.
people who don't like this song are not human
this song is sooo underrated. that guitar at the end is amazing
The day this song hv been released till now, I nvr got bored listening to this solo. Synacky, one of the the best guitar dual partnership ever in the history of metal/rock! (sorry for my bad grammar)
Let's make a petition, they have to add it to their setlist !
Ben Evole Hell yeah... I went to an A7X show in January and another fan asked me "If they could add ONE song to the setlist what would you pick?" I said this one and got the weirdest look. This is my favorite Avenged song, would LOVE to see it live
hell yeah, absolutely
Definitely I'd sign
Sadly it seems like It's one of the very few songs they'll never play live
This has an Iron Maiden feel to it. And that's awesome! Anyone with me?
I love the parts where it goes “Live again, all roads end, I’ll be coming home. Tend your light, cause’ on this night, I’ll be coming home.” It gives me a feeling like I should keep pushing, like in a video game, or lifting weights. Inspirational tbh
Reminds me of this short moment in "Wicked Child" from Castlevania 1:

Someone in class showed me this song today, and it rocks
was it me? lol. im kidding although i did show a friend this song and they loved it
whoever ur friend , tell me we love him/her
I'm an immigrant and this song makes me emotional every time I hear it.
😐
Hi immigrant
Peace n love to n ur fam
Im pregnant
Shouldn't you be listening to the Immigrant Song then? 🤔
During my graduation ceremony , this song was playing in my head the entire time .
in my opnion this is the best a7x song ever...too bad they dont play it live...
I know right. Was disappointed they didn't do it live. I wager that Syn's dad doing the outro solo has something to do with that
+pegcitykid Yea they can't do it without papa gates. Properly anyway
+Laughing Walrus what part did he do? I'm curious
according the to gospel of wikipedia, Papa Gates did the outro solo.
+pegcitykid I think it has more to do with the fact that it is a very complex song to play live cause of all the overlaying guitars. I think they considered it but maybe they thought it didn't sound very well live.
If I had a portable music player I'd probably play this on the way home from work every day.
I see why because YOU'LL BE COMING HOME

My favorite song ❤
This song always motivates me and makes me feel that everything will be fine.
I know that maybe it has nothing to do with the lyrics, but I play it for stages of our life that have been very difficult, with many obstacles and you manage to overcome all that and get ahead again.
so underrated song
+Emre Sağıroğlu This one is probably the only song that remains as the "classical" Sevenfold sound. It's a shame that people (new fans) prefers songs like Hail to the king, made out of 1 riff which is basically the solo played for 5 minutes
+Alejandro Lino Coming home , masterpiece of Hail to the king album
Emre Sağıroğlu I say St. James is even though it's a bonus track
So bad grammar
this place is not college dude, keep mouth shut.
I heard Avenged Sevenfold for the 1st time in Iraq after hearing Afterlife. Since then, they have been my number 1 FAVORITE BAND on my list even now. This song and Crossroads make me teary eyed and appreciate more my love for this band. Rock on, Avenged Sevenfold!!!! I WILL always love you.
This song makes me feel like I need to kick a dragon in the dick and save the princess
+Alexander Hudson way ahead of you
+Alexander Hudson Save me :3 lol like their song

3:46 - 4:24... I cannot be the only one who finds that section particularly awesome?
Best part of the entire album.
Best song on the album.
Bronze Facade I agree
Best album
true, true
Bronze Facade agreed great song.
yes, its the best on album
One of their most underrated songs. my favourite on this album, easily.
Anyone who criticizes this awesome band clearly has no soul whatsoever. To not only endure, but to climb to the status they have is a true testament of pure and raw talent. And in my opinion, they have found their permanent drummer to step in and fill the REV’s spot. Brookes Wakerman is totally awesome and a great addition to this awesomely gifted band. A7X foREVer!!!
One of the best dual guitar harmonies of all time 3:41
3:00-4:20
Crucify that SOLO 😝🤘
If Dark Souls ever had a nice, perfect ending, this song would play.
Maybe in Dark Souls III...

guys i've been replaying this solo 10s of times. . .i'm really addicted *.*
it's PHOENOMENAL!
the last time i felt this way to a solo was for Tornado of Soul's!!!
Amen brother! No one has even touched the amazing solos of Megadeth and Iron Maiden until these guys came around.
umm... the solo for which "instrument"?
That' would be what I was hearing familiar but too many days fighting the fire to remember the names...their like heavy tribal prophets of Energy!!
@@huntersherman3537 calm down then repeat that statement, yea doesn't hold up.
Probably the one of the most epic solo's and outro of all the songs of A7X, the outro is just beautiful.
I feel like it transmits a lot of nostalgics emotions
I'm far away from my family. I have been deployed in a military mission. Recently I received a call from my superiors: I AM GOING HOME. 😊❤
i get goosebumps when i hear this song
Nice pic (:

It might be just me, but the song really begins to suck after 6:25

dewey willard lol I just realized that that is when it ends lol
NO, that part is the best... BECAUSE THERE'S A REPLAY BUTTON!!!
Yeah that’s the spirit
HAHA!!! ITS FUNNY BECAUSE ITS THE END OF THE SONG!!!
117 people are still on their way home.
Hahaha lmao
I don't get it
Crazysniperscout 126 now 😒
Make that 130 people, who will find their throats slit by a mysterious assassin within the month...
130 people who don't know what good music is
People, buy the CD. This album is perfect. You don't understand until you've listened to it a couple of times.
I always thought this was one of the best M. Shadows' vocal performances. Definitely top 10 A7X songs. Hail to the King is extremely underrated and doesn't get the love it deserves. Shame they never played this song live.
The best song of the album
that solo gives me chills everytime❤❤
Close your eyes and listen to this and you see a epic story play out in your head
Playing this song after Wherever I May Roam by Metallica would create a story about a nomad who wanders aimlessly then finds his purpose then returns to his old home (if he has).
Haha that song is amazing
My best friend aka brother is coming home finally after an long fight he will be able to rest in peace now RIP BROTHER HOORAHHHHH MARINES NEVER QUIT TILL THE LAST MAN TILL THE LAST BULLET WE FIGHT
Know the feeling rip. Lived a normal life died a selfless hero
I love this so much.... Matt Vocals are totally awesome and so powerful... Arin fills are really really great... Johnny giving in this song so awesome bass (bass is my favorite in this song) and Syn&Zacky on guitars... Something lovely !
at 5:56 this double bass was exactly what it had to be. That feeling omg
I honestly think the reason they named it hail to the king because of how people are saying that they are copying other artists music and playing it in their songs. Its simple that's the reason why they named their album, to show who's better at playing their own and others music better than they can
In a interview they said it was named after the lead singers sons they held him up and said hail to the king and it stuck
+Garrett suner (Nameks_Pride) also because it makes sense that it's a tribute album, to all the bands that inspired them, sooo hail to the king(being those bands) such as Metallica and maiden
So for all you people criticizing this album they said they were going for a more I guess 80's style metal and rock sound so of course there going to sound a little like other bands but they honestly at least I think did a really good job on this album
Yeah they did great,I think the beginning riff of this song sounds like an iron maiden riff xD
Idk why people are mad at them for being inspired from older bands they earned it they proved they can do there own style multiple times and they did an awesome job people are just haters
They definitely did a good job trying to capture 80's metal.
love this. love iron maiden. personally this is my favoured album.........damn the 80s were sick
I heard the first 30 seconds on a makeup tutorial and it literally took me 25 years to find this song omfg
wow
+kaitlyn zuniga Wtf? Did she like throw make up every where
Strigent Odin no lmao it was just the softer guitar part
kaitlyn zuniga
Oh XD i was just gona say... Bet that was one hell of an aggressive make up tutorial
+kaitlyn zuniga Not only u, but me not such long xd
That guitar-work!!! Fuuucking amazing!
I feel bad for the people who haven’t heard this song yet
Gates is the best current rock guitarist, hands down. Zacky's a lucky man. Miss you Rev.
This song should have a music video. Such a well written song from a fan since the beginning.
the outro is perfect, wish it was longer
ikr i wish the double bass lasted longer
+Eclipse ツ damn right, when that double bass enter combined with the solos make all my hair stand, mad respect to Arin for that little piece
Everyone I know questions why this is my favorite A7X song... This song is a thing of beauty.
+Houndsbluhd not my favourite, but that ending.. 3:04 - 6:25 blows my mind. also makes me reminisce of my lil homie who drowned back in 2013, this song came out a very short time after his passing but im happy to say he lives on through out this ending.
I was listening to this song when my first structure fire call came in. On the way to the fire it just kept playing over in my head. Adrenaline rush !!!
can we all please appreciate Johnny's amazing bass licks ?
why isn't this a more popular song
Unfortunately not everyone is aware of good songs such as this
All we need is the real fans, they are millions of us don't worry we're out there
A7X the best of the world ..
Obviously a Maiden influenced track lyrically, but who's complaining?
Right! This album has some old school influence.."this means war" kinda has a Metallica feel to it!
Yeah! Like paying homage to GNR, MetallicA, Maiden all of the great guitar bands of hard rock/heavy metal of the late 80's - early 90's.
that was their plan for this album they told arin (the drummer) to play slow for this album cause they wanted a metallica, iron maiden type sound. if you've ever listened too not ready too die that arin playing drums and he is a complete beast.
+Tyler J that's not Arin playing its still the Rev, Arin wrote Carry On though..
Genesis Project this was written after the rev died smh. He wrote the entire albums drum track. Idk if you're trying to troll me or what. I just hope you aren't being serious.
avenged sevenfold's Harmony is amazing, it just flows together very nicely
2:46 - 4:23 , badass guitar solo
I love this song so much. I'm not gonna lie, I always sing out loud during the chorus and head bang to the solo. So much energy and I love it.
This is our best music of the album, but no, we don't play this at live
WHY U WORRY ABOUT THIS SO MUCH?
THEY WILL PLAY IT IN FUTURE
Its because Syns dad did the outro
i did not knew that
but dont worry am 100% sure they will play this song on live
Ben Evole jzhziduei3iru3
Jon J lol syn can most certainly play it, the problem is that the song has more than two guitars layered, they decided it doesn't sound as good live, so they choose not to play it.
From 1-10 I give this song a 20
I give it that 7fold
gIRgUS6 < give that man a cookie
Shane Schnase I choose 100 so I like it alot
I would choose 1,000,000 on that scale that's how much I love this song and I'm only a 16 year old girl lol
Its over 9000!!!!!
I interpreted this song to be a soldier much like Beowolf finishing a tiring journey fighting demons and other creatures
more like being in the military n coming home from deployment
seems like odysseus
+clubpenguinfan123 yeah i got odysseus from it
Its about choosing Jesus
actually, it was written as a manifestation of their pain and sorrow after The Rev passed.
I wish The Rev came home...
We all do
He will one day comrade
5:12 - 6:25 I cry every time I hear this...
Why you cry? You crying baby
thats rude. if it touches their heart, let it. Let the things that touch YOUR heart touch YOUR heart, sir.@@notorious7691
Your a pussy bitch
This part is beautiful
Cry the tears. Music is beautiful. Your soul is obviously beautiful.
really surprised this never became a single or very popular. personally i think its their best song of all time. no cap
best guitar ever man i cant get enough of this band i mean there highly underrated
this sounds totally like the sequel to Almost Easy
Actually you're right, since its about wanting to be with someone even though the journey may not be easy, and this is of someone who made it, good reflection to be honest lol.
Thanks man. I can't believe nobody's noticed this
can't believe I didn't notice this either to be honest
more likely to be a sequel of their song "lost"
Maybe gunslinger? It’s a far shot but it could work in here
M. Shadows is doing his best Dio impression and it's a great one. \m/
I like this
More like Bruce Dickinson
That is one BADASS solo!
Great riffs, beautiful harmony.
Nunca me cansaré de escuchar esta master Pieza
Intro sounded like it was influenced by Bullet for my Valentine. I like both bands.
Iron Maiden. BFMV is not one of their influences
i do admit this is a travel or band touring song by the musicians for their loved ones. But somehow i relate t this one as coming back from depression. I can feel the words that way.
I love how retro this song sounds. Released in 2013 but straight out of a 1985 heavy metal album. Face Melting guitar solo too. Incredible
this sounds like it could be a cover of an Iron Maiden song
I was just thinking the same thing.
+Cameron Berry Yeah it's like the riff in Ghost Of The Navigator by Iron Maiden
+Cameron Berry There's a Maiden song called Coming Home.
+Óðinn Snær Óðinsson or the intro is like number of the beast too
This whole album is a tribute to the bands that inspired avenged sevenfold to become a band.

Amo esta cancion, es el claro ejemplo de que el mejor genero es el rock
Excelente canción!!! Se me pone la piel chinita con el solo y con el final, de las mejores del album!
The solo though.. AMAZING!!!
Imagine this song with Brooks on drums.
Oh god
It probably would've been precisely the same. Matt and Syn would've tracked the drums themselves if Arin didn't stop adding complex elements, so it's doubtful it would've been any different if another drummer was there instead.
Don't know why but I think about 300: Rise of an Empire when I hear this song.
it does make me think of that i don't know why it would though it guess it like a good song for that movie
this song gives me the chills, love it

Amo demais essa música. Eu me arrepio só de ouvir ! ❤❤❤
Lindo solo, mais um grande trabalho de Synyster Gates, sempre com frases claras, limpas e bonitas a guitarra. Avenged Sevenfold tem sorte de ter um guitarrista de tamanha qualidade.
Halloween is love. Halloween is life.
Gold in audio form!!!
