  • Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15, the biggest Yoga in Lenovo’s business oriented line of Windows convertible or 2-in-1 Ultrabooks. The Yoga 15 can be used as a laptop, tablet or in tent and presentation modes. It has Lenovo’s Lift n’ Lock backlit keyboard and a 15.6” full HD IPS touch screen.
    ** Read our full written review here: www.mobiletechreview.com/noteb...
    The laptop runs on Intel ULV Ultrabook dual core CPUs and our unit has the 2.2 GHz Core i5-5200U. It has 2 RAM slots for up to 16 gigs of RAM and a 2.5” drive bay for an HDD or an SSD. It has switchable NVIDIA 840M dedicated graphics with 2GB DDR3. The ThinkPad Yoga 15 weighs 5 lbs. and is 0.84” thick, and it has an aluminum lid and magnesium alloy internal frame. The quick ship Core i5 model sells for $849 and our review unit with 8 gigs of RAM, Core i5 and a 180 gig SSD retails for around $1,000.

    Hi! Thank you for your excellent review! It was exactly what I really needed :) I was looking at some laptops for college and I found this model really nice. It's definitely big for usual college students, but I like big screens. If I may ask some questions please? How heavy is this model? Do you think it would be more convenient for college student compared to some other 15.6 in models? Or if you may, would you please recommend some 15.6 in laptops that will go well for college student?

    Lisa they release the updated versions of this at IFA which has displayport and hdmi and updated graphics and thinner design. Unfortunately the 15 inch version was nowhere in site. I think ill wait for the update 15 inch skylake version, im pretty sure its just around the corner, can you also review the Asus Q551 its similar but has dual storage and exact same specs.

    Funny , just looking to upgrade this model 42 months on and found this review. Cost me about £800 on a deal from about £1100 list with a good spec, waited 8 weeks to ship as i had one of the first and got 15% off due it being so late from China. Its been used to death and still works perfect one of the best buys i ever made. bit of a jack of all trades master of none! but spec wise your paying a lot for this now
    Going for a carbon X1for the road and still use this at home because it does everything i need perfectly still.

    Any advice on deciding between this and a non 360 version of an HP envy? Price is a bit of a factor. Prefer not to go over 1,000, so I know the realsense cam is out, even though I want it. Will be using as a word processor and to shoot youtube vida more than anything. No gaming, but I like tent mode for watching movies. My last 2 laptops were HP pavilion. I do like that HP allows you to keep extending your warranty. Had my last pavilion 8 to 10 years because of that. Not familiar with Lenovo, but their 360 hinge seems secure and I love the keyboard locking feature. For that reason, I would only get a 360 from Lenovo. Biggest problem I had with HP was that the hardware/casing around the hinges would physically crack before I had any software or even internal hardware issues. Any advice would help. Would like to buy asap, but can wait on black Friday/holiday deals if necessary.

    Hey Lisa, it would be awesome if you could add a ''timeline'' at the beginning of the video or in the description. I don't always have the time to check your videos. (They're awesome, but a little long sometimes.) Like sometimes, I just want to watch the battery life review part or the gaming part and I have to skip all the way to that part which is annoying (for me).
    Anyway, this is meant to be some positive feedback from a loyal viewer. Keep up the good work and I hope you get to read my comment. Cheers!

There are some models mentioned in lenovo psref (psref.lenovo.com/Product/151) that have active pen support, but I can't find any of them on the market. Lets hope that they will eventually make 15" version of next generation yoga.

    I own 2 Thinkpads (T440 and Carbon X1) and I think they should just stop releasing so many variations; focus on 1-3 amazing products, than releasing dozens of "meh" laptops every year. This 15" Yoga is a prime example - who would ever use a 5-lb device as a tablet and get carpel tunnel? The T440 for instance has 3 variations alone - T440, T440S, and T440p; all of which are pretty different from each version. The Carbon X1 is the only model I recollect that doesn't have different variations.

    • @busywl69
      @busywl69 8 років тому +1

      +violian5 agreed. too much, all missing something or trying to hard to be an apple product.

    • @ChuiStrong
      @ChuiStrong 8 років тому +1

      +busywl69 +violian5
      The thing with ThinkPads is that there is going to be many variations. ThinkPads aren't meant for the everyday consumer (but they can be), they are for businesses who will choose a ThinkPad that is most suitable for their needs. I for one like the way Lenovo covers many aspects of mobile computing. I mean, if you don't like a certain ThinkPad--the Yoga for example, then don't buy that one. It really is as simple as that. But I hardly see anything about the ThinkPad lineup that would 'try to be an apple product'.

    • @violian5
      @violian5 8 років тому +1

      +MlSSlNGN0 I really love my 2nd generation Carbon X1. I got a steal on mine direct from Lenovo during a huge closeout sale (50% off). Paid $675 new after taxes and ship, and it has the touchscreen, 128gb SSD, and Core i5. It is extremely light, feels solid, and stellar battery life. The T440 feels like a cheap laptop after handling the X1.

    • @busywl69

      Yo-yo You have to change with the times though. Plus all that R&D and the cost of manufacturing all those models vs the sales is going to hurt in time. Maybe that's why they are trying to perfect the apple aesthetic like Dell did with the XPS.

    Hi Lisa,Both in the video and the written review you didn't remark on fan noise. Is that because you didn't notice anything out of the ordinary? The fan on my Thinkpad Yoga 15 (i7-5500U, 16 gig RAM, 500 gig SSD) will kick in at low CPU usage or during short spikes (such as when opening my browser) with quite a high speed. The very sensitive, either on-or-off behaviour of the fan is quite annoying, but what is even more annoying is that the noise it makes is a high-pitched whine, even at low speeds. There isn't much info about this concerning the Thinkpad Yoga 15 and the advise that I could find (adjust power settings, install TPFanControl) didn't help. TPFanControl, and other programs alike, cannot control the fan and the fan is even listed as 'unavailable' in the Lenovo Diagnostics app. Some people say that a high-pitched whine is normal on most Thinkpads while others say that it is not and that I should send it for repair. I don't want to send it for repair because that means being without my device for so long but on the other hand I refrain from using it whenever I can because the fan noise is just so darn annoying... I bought it with the intention to run lots of heavy load like running Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and simultaneously running Python or Matlab scripts but even browsing on this thing is a pain. What a nice waste of 1400 euros...
    I would like to hear what your experience was of the fan noise on this device. During gaming, you heard it blowing but not whining? If anyone else has some remarks or advise I want to ask you to please respond and help me figure out whether I am a nagger or should take this issue seriously.
    Kind regards,
    Babette de Jong

    When I heard there's an nvidia dedicatedd graphics chip inside I knew it was over. 5 pounds? Why, Lenovo, why? I knew it sounded too good to be true, it appeared somewhat thick, I've seen there's no ethernet, tried to keep calm, then I see it's 5 pounds heavy and the battery won't be able to output more than 3 hours of movie playback.

      +Ire Min Mon And I'm not saying I don't like dedicated graphics, but for god's sake, 15W CPU + dedicated graphics? Putting in 28W CPU would make it far more futureproof. • @Newtube_Channel
      @Newtube_Channel 8 років тому +2

      +Josh Hunt Entire world won't come to a standstill. MS is popular with end users, perhaps those will come to a standstill in the short-term and for the better in the longer term. MS is everything wrong with technology and they just keep spreading their tentacles like a virus.

    • @joshhunt955
      @joshhunt955 8 років тому

      Skylark I think you are living in different world. What about millions of enterprises who are totally invested in MS ecosystem?you do have fair idea how many are using windows in the world dont you?yes as you suggested people did stop using windows but it wasn't better in the long run as you said.The german city Munich totally exclude windows and started using linux for many years(for cutting cost).but just cos of this decision they couldn't be productive and wasted millions of euros on other services and services providers. now see what they say "The mayor of Munich has revealed that abandoning Linux and returning to Windows, after spending years moving away from Microsoft, would cost the German city millions of euros" People are desperate to use windows after switching to linux. they could be productive and to do even simple tasks it took long time. They stuck totally without windows and MS services. Many of the users complained a lot and they requested to install windows and MS services in their system to be more productive.So now they are switching back to windows after many years.
      Microsoft is really good.They give exactly what people need and they do listen to the users. Windows is far far better than any other OS for most people. windows may not suit you but you are minority. most of us LOVE windows and MS services.
      In one word "the world simply can't be without MS" until some other platform is able to give better services than MS which is totally unlikely. shutting down windows is simply not possible and will never happen but only in your dreams. "MS is everything wrong with technology" what wrong did they do? can you be more specific? coz i am using MS services for a long time and I am very well satisfied.

    • @Newtube_Channel
      @Newtube_Channel 8 років тому

      +Josh Hunt Adopting Linux is not just about cost savings. That's the first and very big mistake to think of it in those terms. There are other systems too besides Linux and Windows. Tasks are actually simpler to carry out in a system like Linux than under Windows. It all depends on your initiation. An Open System is better/easier to control and tailor to any organisation's specific needs than a closed one like Windows. I don't know what happened with Munich but Public Services are known for not being able to put a foot right the world over. When Enterprises go Windows or MS, the impression I get is one of fools. You can train users to be donkeys or you can curtail the veil of obfuscation in a product or philosophy and let everyone improve and benefit in unison.

      Skylark I have used linux for PLINK etc for many years. compared to windows 10(or win8) its just a shit.sorry to say..security is good but functionality wise it is far behind windows xp. Linux is good as a server but not for consumers. my be it will be adequate for some who just do web browsing and some basic word editing. With windows 10 or even win 8 I can check my mails,all my social media notifications,all my feedly news subscriptions in just a glance on the start screen(live tiles) in less than a few secs. on linux or other OSes it will take me about 15mins to catch up with all these stuff. Now the modern world is full of apps.people want apps now.with windows live tiles apps become most powerful.so windows is the future. linux is still in 1990s. only boring people will get stuck with it. Windows users are fortunate enough to use most advanced OS with loads of advanced features in the modern world. you guys please yourself with whatever makes you happy.

    Lisa, try taking breaths between sentences. You are speaking too fast without any breaks between sentences. It makes it hard to follow you.
