Nice and informative video, as usual. I would be curious to see same level of analysis over one of those "no brand" devices that claim to do... Everything! Couple of names are the "FIYPO E80" or "BAKEEY E66". These claim to do blood pressure, ECG (and relevant AI analysis), sp02, body temperature... I know these must be considered gimmicks but could not resist and got myself a E66 for 15euro... All measures do appear to be in the right ballpark but... That could be a easy thing when you have actually all "normal" values 😂 This said, i do understand this would imply a lot of work over, basically, a toy, but still remain curious as to how these actually work

I think a probably reason why the watch misses the heart peaks could be the sensors sampling frequency which might be to low to detect more of the peaks. But the higher sampling freq. would cause more battery consumption. Maybe they do some interpolation, that could explain why the signals signature is detected good and only the peaks are not right in amplitude

@@josepe2448 It depends what he is using, Android or iPhone. If iPhone, it's simple, Apple Watch 6 or 7. If he is using Android, he could use Withings ScanWatch, Fitbit Sense, or even the Samsung Watch 4, if he has a Samsung phone and the most important feature is afib detection. We were complaining about the accuracy of sleep stages detections, besides that, it's quite a good smartwatch.
Rob, I'm living Iran. I don't have sufficient money to buy this device but I have polar h10 chest strap, this review actually made me happy that I didn't miss any valuable thing.
Galaxy watches are really great for smartwatch use only like phone calls, text, alarm, spotify music player, GPS, mobile payments which probably is not available in iran for galaxy watches. Other than that, the only good thing might be step counting and heart rate, the rest of the other measurements are inaccurate.
I find the sleep tracking pretty accurate in terms of timing. As far as the stages are concerned, no real idea.. though I can definitely correlate my grogginess from a bad sleep to my current sleep score. Some times I get 8 hours of restless sleep and get a low sleep score and I feel like crap in the morning and inversely a 6 hour sleep with a high sleep score I wake up feeling great. I realize this is not terribly scientific but I do feel it's pretty accurate. I do also have the latest update, so who knows. The heart rate is really the only other thing I would care about. The other things are just gimmicks but it's nice to know while not entirely accurate, they're accurate enough to measure a problem. Overall for my unscientific purposes I enjoy the watch's functionality. I wonder if redoing some tests with the new software would yield different results.
Found your channel looking for an unbiased review of a fitness tracker and I'm impressed by your extensive testing and researches. Most other channels just list what's on paper and not actual results. Subbed for sure
Fantastic video. Cheers! Just one side note... It's been two years since Rob made this video. Samsung released a LOT of updates since then... Maybe some features improved!?
The location on the body of the various sensor devices vs the galaxy watch 4 should be taken into consideration. For example the watch may detected more wake time being worn on the wrist vs the Zmax EEG since your hand have more range of movement vs the head.

@@TheQuantifiedScientist I see, that makes sense. Very curious to see what you'll figure out as to measuring this metric (which i think Samsung is the only one to provide directly on a watch today). Thanks for taking the time to reply. :)
Blood pressure is usually different on each arm, this is why you should always test on the same arm for accuracy. So it's no surprise that the BP numbers are so far off.
Thank you so much for making these tests. We need more creators like you so that we can be more aware of the (in)effectiveness of these devices. I'm surprised Galaxy Watch4 worked less effectively than expected. Makes me proud choosing Xiaomi Mi Watch, which works more effectively at less than half the price.

Thanks for putting in the time to make this video! ugh its tough to see samsung smartwatches fall so far behind. I like the appearance of the device, but I guess this year isnt the one for accuracy again. I bought the fitbit inspire 2 early this year and will be holding on to it until something better comes along for android.
Thank you for this Rob. I bought the watch despite your not having tested it. I suspected sensor galore, more than ultimate accuracy. Hopefully performance will improve with updates. In addition there are third party sleep tracking alternatives, Would be interesting to see if they do any better than the native one.
I hope Samsung see this test and does everything they can in order to improve accuracy of their device with the software updates. The watch is really nice and pleasant to use so it's sad to hear it's so inaccurate.
Yea this is so unfortunate. This watch could be the ultimate combo of smartwach and activity tracking if not of the accuracy issues. Too bad Samsung is not taking their customers seriously.
Doubt they will, meanwhile Xiaomi and Huawei updated their watches recently to improve tracking even more since this guy reviewed. If you want to be top of selling stuff, goes give customers what they want. Samsung just wants to make money, hence why they are dying.
Why? If you want accuracy buy a $400--$600 Garmin or a Polar. This Samsung is like $150? It's a joke, if you serious about fitness tracking forget Shitsung.
@@disco.lemonade where does it cost 150$ only? 😶 Here in Europe it costs 270 for the 40mm version. Trade ins are shit compared to the US. They are giving me 30 euros discount if I trade in my active 2. I agree that for accuracy Garmin or Polar are hard to beat. But they look hideous in a woman and literally they dont fit if you have small wrists. Plus they suck as smartwarches.
Testing two GW4s may have revealed differences from one GW4 to another . The fact is that there may very well be individual devices that perform better or worst than others.
I would like to see a video where you analyze the delay in reading heartbeats during weight training exercise. My Galaxy Watch 4 has a delay in the reading, when I have heart rate spikes and I would like to know, among the most popular watches, which is the best in this aspect. Your videos are very good, congratulations!
You are the only one who do proper review of these smartwatches since their intended purpose is to literally track your health at all time most reviewers just focus on the functionality of the OS which is irrelevant in a smartwatch unless you really need full Android on your wrist.
I am having the same kind of sleep readings on my Sam Watch 4 with almost no deep sleep even though my Sam Gear Fit 2 shows me as motionless for most of the night. I am actually glad to see your similar findings since I have A-Fib that I thought was the culprit. I did not know the 4 should take BP. I can run an ECG, but nothing comes up for BP on the Sam Health Monitor APP. Maybe because I still have a Sam Galaxy S8+ for phone. Thank you so much for the review!

P. S. A simple, but yet very relevant & important thing you should always do for all tests, is to tell us what firmware version the devices you are testing are running 😉
Great review! Keep up with the good work and greetings from Italy!
I was really looking forward to your in depth review. Thank you for being so thorough. Love your video's, thank you 😊
Amazing that this content is free. Top notch!
I was amazed to find that a channel like yours exist man. Is there any reason why you didn't cover the body composition feature of this watch? Thanks anyway for the work you put in these videos, they are so helpful!
Hi Thomas! Thanks! I did not feel I had a good way of testing it, so I did not want to make any claims I could not back up :-D. I am thinking of what I can do though
Underrated Channel. Get 1M fast
Your reviews are always really good!
Look at newer test, uptaded galaxy watch 4_2022 is near the top.
Thanks for this. I am seriously considering buying the galaxy watch 4 for its health monitoring function. But as I have seen from the several reviews I have watched and finally your review, at least now I can tell or decide that buying this watch for its health functions is not a wise move. I'd probably stick for now with my Amazfit T-Rex which still fits my requirement and style.
Too much appreciation for this video mate 👍. I can see you have put lot of work to make this video.
I have Fossil Gen 4 & 5 and now ordered GW4. One thing I want to say smartwatch are not health tracker only. It has other functions related to smartphone i.e. Notification, calls, different type of tethering etc. So it must have limit to do all such health related functions and smartphone function together. We should be glad that tiny device is giving us so much.
Well you got new subscriber just because of this video (first video 😁).
Cheers 🤘🤘
Why you have ao many smartwatches 😅
@@samjam6989 Hahaha.. like to see what's in new generation 🤣
A vote of confidence to you from someone in a thrid world country. Thanks for giving hints on the claims of these products nobody do that here. This is the benefit of youtube.
I always love seeing that Panama Wedding vinyl record of their EP Parallel Play in the background! ❤️
Now thats the right way to review, and conclude something. Congratulations.
Long life dude, your video is amazing
Thanks for putting in the time to make this video! ugh its tough to see samsung smartwatches fall so far behind. I like the appearance of the device, but I guess this year isnt the one for accuracy again. I bought the fitbit inspire 2 early this year and will be holding on to it until something better comes along for android.
Kudos, for the amount of work you put into this.
Here in Europe it costs 270 for the 40mm version.
This is a balancing act between not using too much battery and being accurate enough. Make it super accurate and get terrible accuracy. Simple
Excelente review. The best I have seen. measuring heart rate and blood pressure exercising was the best
Thank you for this amazing work, congratulations 👏👏👏
Glad reached this video hours before buying this watch. I almost ordered it!
Great review as always
Testing two GW4s may have revealed differences from one GW4 to another . The fact is that there may very well be individual devices that perform better or worst than others.
I would like to see a video where you analyze the delay in reading heartbeats during weight training exercise. My Galaxy Watch 4 has a delay in the reading, when I have heart rate spikes and I would like to know, among the most popular watches, which is the best in this aspect.
Your videos are very good, congratulations!
Man! Great job!! Have you considered testing a Garmin device?
You are the only one who do proper review of these smartwatches since their intended purpose is to literally track your health at all time most reviewers just focus on the functionality of the OS which is irrelevant in a smartwatch unless you really need full Android on your wrist.
Thanks for this insightful review !
You're very welcome Jenny!
Great work brother..
I hope most of the issues, inconsistencies gets resolved through updates.
Great video, thank you so much! Hope Samsung sees this and updates the algorithms. Also, could you please do an update video with the accuracy of the body composition sensor on the watch?
Excellent video brother! Am sure by watching this great video of yours, you are super star post doctoral student👍👍very objective tests with scientific approach and statistical analysis 👍
Instant sub, very good analysis.
unbelievable how much value you and your channel brings to this world keep going
Awesome work 👏 thank you for the amazing well researched content
Thanks so much for the compliments! Hopefully I can continue to make these videos!
Very well done video. Keep up the excellent work!
