The Z400 is maybe the most "practical" but fun motorcycle I have owned. It's got enough power and weight that you feel comfortable on the highway (yes, even on Georgia highways), but is light enough to be easy as pie in city traffic. This is not a beginner only bike. I've been riding for over 10 years and have owned bikes from 150cc to 1000cc during that time. The Z400 is a distillation of Kawasaki's experience with the smaller-middle weight class, and it shows. Just a plain old good motorcycle.

Ridden this and a Ninja 400 back to back.
Simply, it's just a naked Ninja. It's a little more upright, which makes it a touch easier to ride. Lovely bike, tons of fun. I recommend them to anyone that wants to start out.

I was really hung up on getting the Yamaha MT 03 because of all the positive comments and reviews out there. Yes, the MT is an amazing bike. However, after driving the 03 and the Z 400 side-by-side, for me it was such an easy decision, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the Kawasaki. I’m 6 feet, 185 and I am much more comfortable on the Kawasaki. I also prefer the Kawasaki clutch engagement. It’s much more forgiving than the Yamaha. Both are outstanding bikes, and I was surprised they ended up going with a Kawasaki in the end, but I couldn’t be happier. Hope this helps someone who is going back-and-forth between those two bikes as well.

Its got just enough power to make me feel like I can get out of dangerous situations should they arise. This is my current bike. I got it to replace my stolen Honda CB500F which was my first bike. Had to decide if it was time for a forced upgrade, or just buy the Z straight with the insurance cash. The Z has almost the same power numbers as the Honda, but is 50+ lbs less, and revs higher. So easy to ride and goes faster than I need to be going on the road anyways. Helps that I'm 5'8" and about 160 lbs. I may upgrade to a 650 class naked in the next few seasons but really it would just be for a change, and to upgrade to a bit nicer overall component package (brakes, suspension, etc.. ). I have toured around on Southern Ontario, 6+ hour days, no problem. Weekend twisty rides, casual cruises - I'm of the mind that if you are not able to have fun on a bike you're doing something wrong.
I have bar end mirrors, Musarri GP shorty exhaust, some Shogun frame sliders, the OEM lower fairing installed, which I find helps visually fill out the space where the headers are under the motor. Kreiga dry bag loops right on the subframe under the rear seat.

I owned a Ninja 400 for a year and man it was an awesome bike. It also sounds very good with just a €200 slip on exhaust. I had a black one and put a black screen on it and some other black/carbon bits and it looked so mean like it was a ninja 1000 (many people thought it was). Lots of people commented about how badass it looked. Actually had less fun on the street triple 675 I bought after that. It handled way better for aggressive and twisty riding and obviously was way more powerful but that little 400 engine has a lot of character.

Hadn't ridden in a lot of years, used to road and drag race...owned 3 different R1's over the years...among many other Superbikes. Got the itch again, wanted something I could bounce off the Rev limiter on a regular basis...and not be in triple digits...just something fun. Saw an orange 2020, loved it...bought it brand new out the door for 6k cash. Ugly heavy exhaust gone first day, mirrors too...bar ends right away...pass pegs gone...fender gone( Heavy )...1 tooth larger 7075 rear sprocket with titanium nuts....even did wheel spacers....heavier fork springs...etc. But MOST important was changing the weak clutch springs, mine slipped from the get go...did Barnett springs and plates. Now it's perfect for around town , and canyon runs...freeway rides are kept to a minimum...not it's forte...but it's awesome everywhere else.

Owned a 2019 model since April 2020, put 24 000 kms on it and still its going strong. This guy is super nimble and gets through traffic easy, suspension loves kicking your ass on rough roads, unfortunately the exhaust they stuck all the muffly bits at the rear so just sticking on a slipon I saw quite a bit of extra heat, ended up taking it off and putting the stock back for now.

Same situation, 2019 purchased March 2020, just hit 24000 km recently. This is my second bike, I had a CB500F that was stolen, replaced it with the insurance cash for the Z instead of having more financing on an upgrade. Great bike, I’m only about 160 lbs, so it goes just fine for me. Lots of county roads, I’ve toured around Ontario on both bikes, great around town too.

With that mans body weight he will not get the intended experience out of this bike, so his explination would be for someone with a high bmi,,,,,, but if your a small light weight person and full throddle in 3rd past 8,000 rpm you can go flying right off the seat when the front wheel lifts off the ground just like an R1. Power delivery is 8,000rpm~10,000rpm anything below 7,000 is economy mode about 60mpg. Mind you a gy6 150cc scooter basically runs around 7,000~8000rpm 100mpg.

Sometimes think that bying this bike or a MT03 as an re-entry biker it would be better to spend money on a SV 650 or MT 07 A2 that can be done electronically because you get so much more bike for your money and the price difference is not so much, so the point is maybe to get this bike because it is lighter.
