  • Well today we have the Yamaha MT-03 vs Kawasaki Z400 comparison, because every time I make a VS video on the Yamaha MT-03 naked sport bike you all suggest another bike to compare it with haha, so today's contender is the Kawasaki Z400 naked sport motorcycle, or street fighter motorcycle, or whatever you want to call it this time!
    The Yamaha MT-03 for beginners or the Kawasaki Z400 for beginners are both excellent choices, and this was honestly a avery different comparison to make. Either would be a great choice for a beginner naked sport bike, a killer fun bike for advanced riders, or really anyone. They are both just great motorcycles!

    My 18 year old son was able to get a 2022 0 mile Z400 for 6800 bucks cash delivered to my home as we are first timers and I am about to get the blue MT03 this week. Because I am 46 years old I have no need for speed just wanna ride with my boy. Thank you for your honest opinions and outlooks as I will keep in mind. Very excited to roll with him.

      They feel different but similar if that makes any sense...they are the same idea and very similar, but just different enough that if possibly I encourage riding haha. Hopefully you can find one to try! If not then go with the one that feels more right when sitting on it, and that will likely be the right choice anyway!

    I actually had a chance to sit on both at the dealership. I did feel the Yamaha was a bit more comfortable seating position, however with that said, I was leaning towards the Kawasaki just for the slightly higher power. As a new, 1st time rider, i feel like the 400 is something i may not grow out of as quickly.

    Went to a dealership over the weekend sat on both and liked the mt-03s seating position much more but I figured I could get a new seat for the z400 to stop me from sliding into the tank as much and to fix the bit of lean. I ended up putting a deposit down on the z400 because it was $100 cheaper than the mt-03 plus I figured I wouldn't grow out of the 399cc engine as I might with the 321cc just in case I wanted to hit the highway for a short distance and have that bit extra power.

  • @jalamon

    I read a review (don’t recall which one) that said the front brake on the MT-03 was limited. It only applied a certain amount of stopping force and wouldn’t increase beyond that when squeezed harder. Did you experience that? And how did the MT-03 brakes in general compare to the Z400?

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  4 роки тому +3

      The MT-03 front break felt plenty adequate to me! I never felt a lack of front break power and never felt any issue with it in the riding I did! I think the front break on the Z400 is a little "sharper" to me, meaning it grabs a little faster and harder, but I didn't have issues with either one

    i looked at both on line and rode neither because they would not let me without buying it, the z400 has standard abs i do not rember if the mto3 did. i bought the z400 i am 62 years old and have had much larger bikes but i wanted to get back to the basics. the stock seat was torture on the z400 after 45 min. i cut up a purple seat cusion and covered it in faux leather over the stock seat and now i have done 600mile trips over 2 days with not the slightest pain. it added 2 inches to seat height but well worth is i also added 2.5 bar rizers and it is a wonderful bike for me. iit reminds me of the days when 350cc was the norm and that is what i wanted. hyway at 80mph is easy and naked.

So yeah, it is a more powerful bike offering a different riding experience. Personally I´d love Kawa´s engine and front brakes and the rest from the MT03.

    I got to test ride both bikes this morning and also the BMW G 310 R. while the MT-03 and Z400 are similar, they're also very different. Both are quick bikes. The Z400 has quite a bit of engine braking like a cruiser and it doesn't have the smoothest throttle response - it felt a little jerky to me. The MT-03 was very smooth and refined - both throttle response and engine braking were linear and predictable. It has plenty of torque to lug my 100kg frame around - especially on hill starts while waiting at traffic lights. I can't say the same thing for the Z400 where I ended up stalling it and held up some poor people behind me. The MT-03 isn't perfect as I did manage to find myself catching a couple false neutrals when changing up a gear. The gear changes on the Z400 were pretty crisp.
    While spec sheets are good as a guide, there's no substitute for a test ride.

I sat on the Z400 and the Ninja 400 and both seats are terrible hard and pitch your balls into to the tank, the Ninja seemed a bit roomier but not by much. I liked the bars and peg position better on the Z. The VersysX I had seat was roomier, but still too hard to be comfortable on a longer ride.
    I really want a small parallel twin as a 2nd bike to my Lowrider Softail. I realize I’ll never get that comfort from a little sport or naked bike, but I’d like to be able to ride it 2-3 hrs without a sore butt for days.

      To me the seat is very similar feeling on all 3 as far as the stiffness etc...something like the Versys definitely has a more comfy seat in my opinion as well.

      @@AlexSimmons11c Found an MT03 to sit on. The seat is slightly better than the Kawis, dos t pitch you into the tank as much. But the bike overall feels a bit smaller. They all feel like sitting on a Grom. And the VersysX seat is a medieval torture device, btw. One reason I got rid of that bike. 2nd was a 20mph crosswind sends you sailing, too light and tall a bike for that much plastic. Great little engine tho.
      I’m about to pull the trigger on a RE Gt650 in Dr Mahem. Ticks all the boxes pretty much for a 2nd in the stable with my Softail. Local dealer has one 2020 left and I love it.

    You can not got wrong with either of these! They are similar in what they are! A few hp is not going to mean anything the higher cc might feel a little more torque or pull but at higher rpms the Yamaha might be more fun... I have the mt-03 I am 6ft 250 and have no problem on the highway going over 70mph I never went 80mph but that is only because when I drive it is rush hour and the max speed is around 60-70.. when I was going 70 I was only in 5th gear and not even full throttle.. so I bet it can easily go 100+ but I will never go that fast...I don't want a ticket and I don't care to go that fast.

    Thé Yamaha looks more sexy and attractive . I have a question is it possible to turn a bike from 2 cylinders into 4 ?

    • @AlexSimmons11c
      @AlexSimmons11c  4 роки тому

      Not really haha, the engine that a bike comes with can be upgraded in a lot of ways but generally speaking the overall design (i.e. how many cylinders it has) is going to be a set thing. If you want 4 cylinders you'll need to buy a bike with 4 cylinders.

    Everyone can do a lot of add ons and mods to make both these bikes scream. Theres many videos showing you what and how. You wont be able to keep the front tire on the ground. Ive done them and they work. Same with any size bike that you get. Just ride them stock till you get use to it then add a pipe then a sprocket then later get a power commander. Trust me your going to till a huge difference no matter what bike you pick. I would just pick the one thats mor comfortable then add the mods as you go. Then if you get tired of it, sell it and get a bigger bike and start all over. That simple.

    We have put a few Z400/N400 on Dyno before (including mine as well).
    The Z400 reaches 44.7whp while the N400 reaches 44.0whp, both at the peak of 10k rpm.
    So the claim from Kawasaki that bike has 45hp is true. Even though they are very restricted due to emissions.
    The MT03 has roughly 38whp and also weights more. Performance wise the Z400
    Beats the MT03 in every category.
    But a bike is more than performance especially for urban use. In my opinion (even though I own a Z400) the best bike for urban use due to riding comfort/quality/economy is the Honda CB500F. She's slower than the Z400? Yes, but there's something on the 500F that makes you fall in love with.

    I have the Kawasaki Z400 and it's a better bike to own then the Yamah I tried the Yamaha I would recommend the Kawasaki Z400 for a start motorcycle 🏍️🏍️ I paid for my new for $6,000 2019 model and it was worth the money on the Kawasaki Z400 and much faster bike as well in my opinion.

    I must say, I'd have to call the Kawi the winner here. The MT03 is both noticeably heavier and less powerful than the Z400 but pricier in 2021! Why so? The riding position may be slightly more upright on the MT03 but the comfort of the Z400 has been lauded in all the reviews. The Z400's frame and engine (the cornerstone of any motorcycle) were developed from scratch for this model. And suspension, brakes, fueling/gearing, fit/finish, you name it the Z400 can't be beat. Personally I think Kawi pulled off the looks too with their "Sugomi" design concept. So more character and bite in every sense then... "I have got to get me one of these!"
