I love your clear explanations. Even though some of your videos are a few years old, I keep coming back to them to refresh my memory. Your pace and clarity are perfect.
Hi Mel, I wanted to say I really enjoy your videos and really appreciate all the effort that clearly goes into them! I am just starting to learn BSL at my local Deaf Association so I am only a beginner but I love your videos about the linguistics of BSL and I'm really enjoying watching them alongside getting to grips with the basics. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these amazing learning resources, it's making learning BSL so exciting!
Kate Hi Kate, that’s really nice thank you. I must admit the linguistic videos are quite a challenge! I hope you enjoy your bsl course and I wish you all the best in your learning. Please post again and let me know how you are getting on with it 🤗
Hi Mel, just want to say thank you for all your videos! They have helped me so much and you give great examples and explain things clearly. Also very happy to find someone who signs from the same region as me. Great videos x
Hi Mel, I'm doing a project for my ling course at university and I want to thank you for providing so much information! I was also wondering if there are more examples and descriptions for bound morphemes in BSL.
Hi sorry a bit late in replying. Theres a book called the linguistics of British sign language, an introduction. By Rachel Sutton-Spence. It says introduction but it's not light reading.
This is such a fantastic video I’m level 3 learner and I can understand most without captions your very clear and this is helping me loads as I have to research linguistic as part of my homework what about phonology I’m having a hard time writing up what that means? Oh are you deaf? Because your sounds are very clear English and you seem to know the English grammar very well thanks again xxx
Hi thank you very much, it was hard work putting it together. Yes I am Deaf and BSL is my language. My English grammar is not to bad, studying A-Level English Literature and Theatre studies brought it right up. Been hard work though. I'm sure I have done a video on phonology, it would be under my intermediate/improvers playlist. It might help you to know that it was previously known as cherology, greek for hands but they changed it back to phonology. Hope your level 3. goes well. Thank you xx
@@bsllearningwithmel4459 I think you have amazing prononciation I can imagine now I'm learning complex signs and understanding more in depth behind the sign that the biggest challenge for me I know the BSL sttructure better and its toatlly different to English I give you high praise for educating others and putting the time and effort Ok then I will check that out thank you again keep it up xxx
Hi Mel. On a slightly different subject, I am right hand dominate and my right hand fingers don't work very well due to nerve damage, as a result I find it very difficult to sign things like S or aeroplane, anything which involves my pinky, however I can do these easy with left hand. i know this may cause some confusion to others, do you know many left hand signers? I don't think it would be to hard to understand, just like signing in a mirror I imagine.
Paul Fellows Hi Paul, yes I do know quite a few left handed signers. It doesn’t matter either way. If some signs are difficult personally I would just switch to my left, it doesn’t matter. If I’m holding a cup of coffee I’ll switch to my left hand anyway 🤗
@@bsllearningwithmel4459 It's interesting to find out that experenced signers do the hand swiching thing when they're holding something. I'm practicing with a couple of other beginners via video confrencing and I've found that I automatically switch hands when I'm holding something - I wasn't sure if "real" signers did it though!
This is the 1st time I've heard of these. I've just started Level 3 and I want to understand linguistics. Would the sign love be classed as a morpheme? I don't think you can split that sign up 🤔 I'm trying to think of other examples. X
Thank you for that Mel. I now understand a bit moe about morphemes. Still not fully sure on the bound morphemes 3rd division of polymorphemic morphemes.
Hi Mel Great video, love the example of true, promise and believe I understood the explanations totally. I’ve just done level 3 linguistics and this sounds very similar to Established Lexicon and productive Lexicon I think 🤔 ? Anyway loved the vid , hope you are well. Take care Pat 😁
Keith Moss Hi Keith, yes fine thank you. Well done on doing your level 3 linguistics, that’s certainly not easy! Promise would be an established or fixed sign as it’s found in the bsl lexicon and it can’t be easily changed. Productive signs are often classifier signs as they can change. Thank you very much for watching 🤗😀

You are so welcome!
Thanks Mel, your explanation is so clear and the examples so helpful!
Thank you 😊 very much heather, I found it quite a tricky subject to explain but I am really pleased it was clear.
Thank you very much Mel 🌟 a very interesting and well presented subject. I'm learning so much from you. Many many thanks 😃 x
Hi Susan thank you ever so much😃🤗
thank you for deep study, this needs time to fully digest all of the details.
Thank you very much Kuldip, you're right it's not the easiest subject.

Atanalo Yes, I thinks it’s just everyday life, but not a good idea for exams 🤭😂
