    Good morning Mel. I am loving these videos especially the daily ones for practicing finger spelling (which I’m not very quick at but getting better) I am learning BSL at the moment via zoom call with a girl called Adel and in between lessons I try and find videos that will help me improve at each lesson. I came across yours and I’m so grateful for them. I feel I’ll be more confident with the help of your videos alongside my 1:1 sessions. 🥰 I started learning in December but knew the basics from years ago.

      I'd really appreciate it if you could answer a question I have. I'm a new BSL learner, and I still sometimes get confused with the grammar. I used to think in a sentence that the verb comes last unless there is a question word. But I saw a video where the sentence is "How do you arrive to work" and the order is "Arrive work how", with the verb "arrive" first in the sentence. Could you please explain why this is, please?

    • @bsllearningwithmel4459
      @bsllearningwithmel4459 5 місяців тому

      Hi Chloe, I’m not sure about the video you watched but you’re right the question does normally come at the end. Also sometimes a question is used to link two sentences together. It helps to look at sign order like a picture, like what part would you paint first. You’ll get there, it takes sometime to learn.

    You're really good at getting concepts across in a way that a hearing person like myself can understand. At first I only thought of deafness in the small 'd' way, as just a physical characteristic. Thanks to videos like this though (and lots of BSL Zone), I'm starting to understand the big 'D' meaning too.

    Thank you, I always find your videos so helpful. One thing I was wondering is how placement interacts with listing multiple things on your fingers. To use the same example as the video, allocating Mary to the first finger, and Jane to the second. Are there certain situations when placement or listing is preferable, or does it just come down to the choice of the person signing? (Sorry if that's a confusing way to describe it.)

    • @bsllearningwithmel4459
      @bsllearningwithmel4459 5 місяців тому

      hi thank you. I understand you clearly. Listing on hand, enumeration, is often good when listing people, children, bro, sisters, food etc...because you can go back to the finger without having to repeat the name. Also it's clear. Placement is often good when you're describing something in relation to something else. For easy example-Jane [placement] Mary [placement] first time met. So basically you would bring the right and left index finger in towards each other. Placement is also good when you're signing about topographical information. Hope that's a little bit helpful.🤗

    • @returnoftheredeye
      @returnoftheredeye 5 місяців тому

      Ah, that makes perfect sense, thanks! It helps my understanding of when to use each method, and it's good to learn the term 'enumeration' too. Answering a question on an old video so quickly, and in detail is really dedicated. @@bsllearningwithmel4459
