Thanks for the great tour, I have been to The Knotty Lamb; I love their store and order from them all the time, since I live about 50 miles away from them. I have been to Starlight too, the unique way they organize their yarn; by brand makes it hard if you are looking for a specific weight of yarn. This is the only shop that I have ever been to that does this. I did buy some lovely hand dyed yarn there, but it was disorienting to me how the shop is organized.

Native Oregonian here and love your coverage of the crawl. I've never been but have been to some of the stores. I'm mourning the loss of 2 downtown portland yarn shops, Pearl Fiber and Unraveled. But Portland remains a fibery mecca. Thanks again.

I'm from Portland! I love that city. It's lost its way a bit but it's still charming. What you said about the shops often looking like houses is so true--it's prevalent for any shop to be in an old house. I loved that about it there; it made it feel so cozy and homey. My favorite tea shop was upstairs in an old house just like you described.
I'm from the PDX area, and for Yarn's sake is one of my favorite stores! Everyone is so nice, and they have all my favorite yarns.😊

Hi Natalie! It was so fun to meet you at Starlight! I’m still annoyed I didn’t have a project in my purse so that I could come to the knit night with you afterward. Lesson learned (although not executed yet 😬😂) Thanks for coming to Portland and getting a taste of our little city 😊

The entire concept of Fiber Rhythm is genius: as is the name, but that's different thing. While UA-cam tutorials, and even books, are fine - nothing beats a person explaining and showing you how to do something. Moreover, you've set yourself some time to do something... Making a date with/for yourself is sometimes really important!

I was so excited to see this video as a Portland metro resident. I love the yarn crawl but it is so so so full. Believe it or not there used to be EVEN MORE shops on the crawl. We did all the shops in 2 days and I was worn out!

Since I'm familiar with the area and most of the local references (I live an hour away) I was very impressed with your ability to pick out dyers and memorable/ significant colorways. I'm often overwhelmed walking into a new yarn store. I wonder if there are any tips from the planning that you do or questions you ask when you get there? Could be an interesting video topic.😊 Also, I'm very intrigued by this hiking shrug and hope to see it a future knit planning video!

I am so jealous of not only the amount but also the size of the yarn stores you have in the US. In the UK there are so few yarn shops and the ones we do have are often quite small.
That is so surprising. I have romantisized UK as a place where on a rainy night knitting was the national pastime :) to much Miss Marple. Hope to visit one day soon.
@@Kickrocksproductions There are lots of knitters here, and we have lots of indie yarn dyers and online yarn stores, but we don't have many physical yarn stores. The majority of the ones we do have tend to mostly sell the big commercial brands of yarn.
We are sooo lucky! Not every city has this much though. This was a treat!

Wow Natalie, so many great yarn stores. I've done the NYC Yarn Crawl, but nothing like this. No trunk shows, although Knitty City did have the Artist from Yarn Over New York on the last day of crawl. I'm drooling over all the yarns and colors. Thanks for showing us all these great yarn stores. Let us know what pattern you are using for your blanket.

@@KnittyNatty Beautiful blanket, it’s crochet. I’m left handed and tried to learn to crochet. It was a mess so, I stick to knitting. I did a blanket with alpaca, cost me just over 300 dollars. I had it in a draw string bag. When I brought it to my new place, I saw moths had chewed on it.

Michigan Fiber Festival looks fantastic in Allegan Co. In August. Going to maybe convince hubs to go. It’s a ways from us in SW OH. We have one nearby in Yellow Springs that may be my first to check out.

You are so fortunate to be able to visit so many lovely shops. I'm jealous on two accounts, your adventure and you can wear wool. I love the texture, feel and knitability of wool. Unfortunately I get a blistery rash when it is near my skin so others get my makes. Keep up you adventures.

eventhough I am now living in Texas... I am from Oregon.... NW Portland stores are... were houses or duplexes, or even shared housing.... {like rent a room from the owner} years and years ago.... Some of those houses... now shops are probably at least or over 100 years old. There used to be a store in SE Portland [it may still be there] that had people coming from Idaho to shop there, fabric, yarn, etc...I am glad you enjoyed your time in the PNW. [the carpet at PDX is infamous... when you leave or return you have to take a picture of your feet to share with those you are going to see, or leaving behind to let them know you are at PDX....] If you did not have time this trip... if you pass through Portland again... you need to go to Powells Books... The big 1st store in down town Portland... on the North side of Burnside. It will take you a day to get through each section of each floor... Color coded rooms is your friend in this store... -so you know where you are and do not get lost. [again... not in the pdx area anymore... but I think it would be hard to close Powells. Kent... the smallest park is in the Portland Metro area... did you look for it? And then there is Forest park.... the Rose Test Gardens, The Japanese Garden.... etc... And all of the breweries not just the micro breweries in the city but there are several in the surrounding areas too.... along with many Oregon vinyards too...

About Powells; I wish more people would spend money on their wonderful books, they have had a tough time of it since Covid and could use the support. It is quite the tourist destination along with Voodoo Donuts, so people often browse and don’t buy which is sad. It does make for great people watching,, since you can spot the tourists with their bright pink donut boxes, from afar.
I’m enjoying watching this vlog. I can’t help asking if you & hubby have ever watched Portlandia? It’s hilarious & I’d love to know your thoughts… 😂

This looks like so much fun! I need to try to go next year - I’m only a few hours away. You should definitely try to make it to Flock Fiber Fest in August - it’s a great festival! Also, did you see any of Knitted Wit’s national parks yarn - I love those!
I totally agree! I love that half of that festival is animals; you get to see the ENTIRE process around yarn! Plus, it might convince you that you need a little angora rabbit just in case.
