  • Medicated treatments help treat scalp psoriasis, but can leave the hair dry. Here are 3 natural products to incorporate into your regimen with them.
If you have a scalp condition such as psoriasis, you are often required to use medicated products which often leave the hair dry. However, the goal of a healthy hair journey is not only to treat the scalp, but to grow healthy, moisturized hair. In this video, I share 3 natural products that can do both!
These products have been staples in my hair regimen for at least 5 years. When used in conjunction with medicated products, they can help calm the psoriasis symptoms, keep hair moisturized, and promote growth!

    1) APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
The National Psoriasis Foundation endorses ACV to help stop scalp itch. It contains acetic acid (which is found in the “mother” part of unfiltered ACV) which provides relief by killing bacteria (balancing the pH levels) and removing dead layers skin. It is also a GREAT detangler. I like to use it as a pre-poo to detangle my hair and begin the cleansing process, and it leaves my curls POPPING!
DO NOT use ACV on open or cracked skin as it can cause burning and skin irritation.
SUGGESTED USE: I dilute it with warm water, apply it to the scalp using a spray bottle, massage it into my scalp & detangle my hair, and then rinse it out.
    2) ALOE VERA GEL
The gel found inside the aloe leaf has been used for traditional medicine in many cultures. It is often used for sunburn to sooth the skin and calm redness, irritation, and soreness. It is great for moisturizing the hair and skin. It contains a property known as glucomannan that affects skins cell growth and accelerates wound healing.
There is no clear benefit to taking aloe orally to treat psoriasis. Please stick to topical aloe treatments for scalp psoriasis.
SUGGESTED USE: I like to use the aloe as a pre-poo (before or after the ACV) and layered under my deep conditioner.
    3) TEA TREE OIL
It is an essential oil distilled from the melaleuca alternifolia plant. It has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties. It is also good for removing scales, buildup, and accumulated skin. It is also great for scalp massages to stimulate the blood vessels in the scalp to promote growth and soothe itchiness without scratching.
DO NOT use the oil by itself, dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it to your skin as it can burn or irritate the skin by itself. Never invest tea tree oil.
SUGGESTED USE: I add it to my DIY hair oil and do regular scalp massages.
    FINAL THOUGHTS
It is important to UNDERSTAND YOUR HAIR POROSITY so you can apply the products in the most beneficial way for your hair. I have low porosity hair, so I always try to apply these products warm.
As scalp conditions become more common, people are often left not knowing what to do with their hair and scalp. Hopefully this series can help begin that conversation! Please share this video with someone you know who could benefit from this information!
See you in the next video! God Bless!
