I always wash any extention hair, syntheic or human, before installing it onto my head. I have a scalp conditions so this is a very inportant step for me. I dilute some ACV and and shampoo in warm water and let the hair soak in it for 20 minutes. After rinsing, I dilute some conditioner in cool water and let that soak for 5 minutes. After rinsing again, I dry the hair in a towel and then let it air dry.
    PARTING
I did the the illusion method for my braid down. I start by parting the front half of my head in rows from ear to ear. I did 10 rows all across. I parted two rows in the back, and I parted single sections on the side. In the middle section, I parted 5 horizontal rows.
I start parting the illusion sections in the fron first. I take down a row and part a section as though I’m about install individual braids. I braid the section passing the strands about 12 times and leave the ends. I part the next section passing the strans about 4 times, then I add the hair from the previous section and continue braiding. I continue this technique for each row so the braids connect like a cornrow but the base is sectioned like individuals. IMPORTANT: I make sure to leave a little slack at the base of each indivual braid to the the braids can pass comfortably through the base and loop around with causing any tension or pulling.
NUMBER OF SECTIONS: (for reference my head size is 21 inches)
Starting from ear to the top middle of my head on both sides
    Row 1 - 1 section
    Row 2 - 2 sections
    Row 3 - 2 sections
    Row 4 - 3 sections
    Row 5 - 4 sections
Total of 24 parted sections across the top of my head.
1 section above each of my ears on the sides
Starting from the nape of my neck upwards
    Row 1 - 3 sctions
    Row 2 - 4 sections
For the middle rows, I start flattwisting the first row so I can have a seamless blend from the front sections to the back. Once I get to the end of that row, I start braiding. As I am connecting around to the second row, I add the end of the first braid from the front and continue braiding into the second row. In this second row I also add the ends of the rows from the front half of my head as I am braiding across. When I get to the two braids in the front/middle, I cross them over each other as I am braiding. continue braiding the next two horizontal rows adding the ends of the individual sections on the sides above my ears. Then when I get to the last horizontal row in the back, I braid in the ends of the braids from back illusion rows. Everything comes together to one ending braid. I fold the braid over and crochet the end back into the last braid.
    INSTALL
I put the crochet latch hook through the base of each illusion section. I insert the hook towards my ear so that the knot at the bast of my hair can lay flat. Hook the haor onto the latch hook, pull the hair about halfway through, hook the end of the braid onto the latch, pull it through the loop and tighten the loop to the base of my hair.
When filling on the in-between spaces of the illusion braids, I insert the hook through the middle of the braid instead of around the entire braid. This minizizes tenstion and allows for a smaller, flatter know at the base. I make sure to loop the hair around the top half of the braid so the cornrow is covered when I wear the hair down. Around the perimeters, I insert the loop the hair around the bottom half of the braids so the the cornwors are covered then I wear my hair up.
When filling inthe hortzonal cornrows, I install the crochet braids in a brick layering method on the top and bottom half of the cornrows. When I get to the bends in the cornrows, I insert the crochet hook outwards on the outer half of the cornrow. I also continue the brick-leyering method as I move from one cornrow to the next.

Looks amazing!! I’ve never crocheted so is there any reason why you don’t braid straight back on the back of your head instead of the s pattern? Thank you, I’m trying to learn before I attempt and I’ve noticed some are braided straight back!! ❤

Of course! Great question! Based on how the braids fall, I didn’t want there to be any noticeable spaces at the back of my head. Granted, the hair covers it all when it’s down, but if I style my hair a certain way, I didn’t want the spacing in the back to be noticeable.
Braiding in an “s” pattern allows the hair to fall naturally and the loops lay flatter. If you braid straight back, you would have to loop the hair around the sides of the braids and that could cause bulking at the base since the loop is facing sideways but the hair is falling downward. I hope that makes sense lol.
