Quake Rally (1997) - Every PC Rally Game

Quake Rally by Impact Developments, 1997.
I wasn't planning on including mods in this playlist, but some mods need covering! Quake Rally is one of those mods!
Ryan "Ridah" Feltrin and Rowan "Sumaleth" Crawford managed to turn first person shooter into a rally game, of sorts. Yet retained weapons (for some deathmatch action) as well as a bonus level with a plot, where you shoot kangaroos and Duke Nukem... but that's not what we're looking at here!
I'm running Quake Rally on original GL Quake (not the remaster on Steam), and chose 4:3 aspect ratio, as widescreen caused too many elements to be stretched horizontally. The video is a bit jerky as the game seems to run at around 72hz, whilst I'm capturing at 120hz. I'm using both Quake Rally and the Leftovers add-on, containing more content that was intended for an Ultimate Rally mod. However this was discontinued when Quake II came out, and modding the original Quake became a bit less fun for the developers!
There's a range of cars here, and a selection of 5 rally tracks, and 5 deathmatch arenas. I'm showing a mix of them. The dark level is one of two Time Trial races, but that one is entirely in the dark!
Gameplay-wise it's a little hard to explain; you use the mouse/keys to move the viewpoint, and the rally car then slides and drives in that direction. It takes a little getting used to at first. The in-car view, however, is very WIP and doesn't seem to steer left or right enough, which is why there's so much wall colliding in those clips!
Overall this was, and remains, one of the more crazy mods that anyone ever tried in Quake, and it's worth a look, if you like Quake! Note: this won't be the last mod/total conversion on this list...

They did a really good job of taking all the major themes of different parts of Quake and combining them into single race tracks

good old times modding quake using the Quake Army Knife.. spent so many hours messing around with it.. i remember some racing mods, but not this.. thanks for digging this treasure

I remember a rally mod for Half Life that was included in an old video game magazine CD, though it was way closer to an actual rally game than this

The car in that game actually reminds me of the scout buggy from Half Life 2. Wonder if the devs got inspiration from that.

Dang, driving pretty slow man. I was flying around these tracks back in the day, Tokyo drifting like a bauss around corners. It's all about the chasecam, all day.
