Today I am taking a look at the Iliad Field Jacket by Prometheus Design Werx. There are a ton of jackets on the market these days, but not all are created equal. There are some really well executed design elements in this jacket. Whether you are looking to hike into the backcountry on a backpacking trip, spend a day training on the range, or pretty much any other activity where a might need a performance shell, the Iliad Field Jacket will treat you well.

cant buy the cashmere anymore
They do short runs, they'll probably do another batch in other colors / patterns.
Nice jacket; Nice review. Any plans on reviewing some ventilated pants? Fjallraven/Eberlestock/UFPro would be a solid shootout :)
In short, No. Not because I don't want to, just because I don't have any of their pants. I may have to reach out to them.
What are the differences between a field jacket, a technical jacket and high quality wind breaker?
Probably mainly just the naming convention. You want to look at materials used and the construction methods, like taped or welded seams and what not.
Would this be considered a soft shell jacket?
Good question, I think it kind of blurs the lines a little bit.
@@KitBadger Hey Kit, I'm 200lbs, 5ft7. What size do you reckon I should wear? :)
@@shaqstudio probably large, but I'd reach out to them.
@@KitBadger Thanks man, appreciate it!
Was sold until I heard it was made in Cali.
Cali is an overseas sweatshop now.
all those illegals making it mexico 2.0
Nice review!
How do you find the length?
I’m 6’4” 225lbs, considering the large.
Tough call, I'd reach out to PDW and see what the actual dimensions are. Mine for me fits well, at about 175 6'.
Another question about size. I have a good few jackets from TNF and Marmot. Could you tell me if they are of the same size, please? Does M from TNF or Marmot is same as M from PDW?
If I had to take a guess, I would say yes. I don't own their stuff. I will say the PDW is on par with Arcteryx and OR sizing in my experience.
Looks good, it looks to be a decent option. Thanks for the video.
No problem man, thanks for watching.
Driving through Idaho on my way to Montana, Wyoming, and ultimately Colorado this week. Looking forward to catching some of those awesome views in your state!
Enjoy it man, it is amazing! :)
Pulled the trigger after watching this review just got it today it’s an amazing piece. Ur the man one of my most favorite channels thanks a lot!
Awesome man, glad to hear it on all counts! :)
What's this durastretch tweave like over rough surfaces when scrambling on rocks? Also, would an errant spark from the campfire melt an every growing hole? Thanks.
In my experience it is pretty durable. Not sure how it would take a hot ember. I feel like it would hold up a little better than just a softshell material.
@@KitBadger when you compare it to the Carhartt, that's where I put it for durability also. Thanks. I wonder if I could buy a little square scrap to test for melting. Maybe Prometheus would know. I'll post what I find 👍
@@sp10sn good question on the ember/melting. Let me know.
Iliad Jacket is a Stealth-ier Hoody ;)

Outstanding piece of kit, great review!!!
Thanks Beau!
I am that gray man, sometimes my own wife looks right pass me.
Hahaha, I've been there. :)
Hey man! Sweat shop kids gotta eat too! LOL
Ya, but not as much... :)
Four dislikes?! WTF? Must be TAD employees. Thanks for the review. I always look forward to your posts. I have the strong impressions that you are a fair and honest reviewer. This review also carries weight because I've seen you wearing that jacket in a number of your other videos, which I don't think you would be doing if you thought it sucked.
Thanks for the kind words Ken. And ya, the internet, where all the haters hate. :)
Looks good, super light weight.
It is, no loft or backing makes it easy to pack as well.
Really enjoy your reviews, what would you reccomend for a rain jacket for the PNW?
Thanks Bradley. As to a rain jacket, I guess it depends on your intended use. Something you use to get from the car to your house, something to hike in, or just something you have in your backpack just in case?
@@KitBadger Thank for the reply. Mostly hiking and prolonged standing in west of the cascades rain fall.
@@alki-1344 Ahh, you're going to need a legitimate hard shell. Not sure offhand, I don't have one right now.
@@KitBadger Okay, the hunt continues. Looking forward to your next video, keep up the great work!
@@alki-1344 thanks for that man!
Is this as well built as arcteryx? As expensive?
I have it. It easily bests my Gamma MX
Great review - are there any other jackets you'd recommend that fulfill the same basic purpose but in a lower price bracket? Thanks
You could try something like the Outdoor Research Ferrosi. I have both. I feel like the OR jacket is a less durable version of this. Not quite as good in every way, but still of pretty good value for the money.
