  • I'm beginning to think I should take up walking, this is the second motorcycle accident in about 2 months, this time I got taken out by a young lad doing a U-Turn across a main road.
    As luck would have it I wasn't wearing the helmet cam so missed the incident, but this vid deals with the aftermath and riding a bike with bent forks to my local BMW dealership, COOPERS in Tunbridge Wells.

    A long time ago I know but only just seen this. I cannot believe you rode your bike in this condition not really knowing the true damage that had been caused that may have caused a catastrophic failure! Fortunate you didn’t get stopped by the police, you know only too well what a PG9 is. 😏

    @theincrediblesulk5543 7 років тому +1

    The sad thing is if you managed to avoid the car and came off as a result you would have no claim! Also on the insurance company saying they don't have any note of your previous incident, if you told then over the phone all your calls are recorded against your account, which if you kick up a fuss they will dig it out

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 років тому +1

      +The Incredible Sulk I took the insurance out after filling in an online form on GoCompare.com so there's no phone call involved unfortunately. GoCompare said they had no record of my application when my insurance checked with them.
      Weird, but it's all sorted now.

    I feel for you. My son was taken out in Norwich by a car deciding to turn right, without signalling, from queueing traffic just as my son was slowing filtering along the outside of the queue. When her husband arrived he said "What is it with you bloody bikes keep hitting my car?" Need I say any more. No apology, no "are you al right?" As a low speed crash. no major damage to bike, just a few scrapes. A nice dent in their offside rear door. As the cost of the insurance excess would be more than the repair my son did not claim. And neither did the other party. Insurance???? Lesson learned - always filter at a speed you can safely pull an emergency stop. If you want to filter with an overlap speed of 40 - 50mph, good luck to you. One day your guardian angel might be looking the other way.

  • @stephenmcqueen4029
    @stephenmcqueen4029 5 років тому +3

    In your account of the accident you said you were filtering at 30 mph. If it was as busy as described don’t you think that was too fast? What limit was the road where it happened. I don’t often ride to work on my bike in a big city so it might be acceptable to others, I’ve seen plenty of vloggers on here. Easy to criticise I know, glad your not hurt but it could be contributory filtering at that speed in the dark n wet.

    • @teapotone

      Thanks Donna, but in hindsight I could of greatly increased my ‘survival’ options by filtering by the stationary bus at a slower speed, allowing me to view the u-turning car and react quicker.

    Just came across this video, taken out twice within two months. Video footage both time is the way forward, use Innovv camera system front and rear facing. Filtering in stationary traffic toward blackwall tunnel, twat open his door to take his jack off, bike was a right off. Eight weeks later, slip road off the A13 west India dock road. Stationary at the traffic lights waiting to enter the tunnel. Shunted from behind, appreciate that shit happen but drive didn't tell his insurance company and then tried to blame me. Sent them the footage and that's a new bike thanks you. Love the new GS riding position hope Coopers sorted you out.

    I was a witness in a case involving a similar. The car solicitor's defence was that the rider shouldn't have been overtaking a car that had indicators on. I pointed out that the car wasn't indicating! Rider won 100%. In your case driver could say he didn't see you because of the bus so he thought road was clear. Might want to edit out the part of the vid in which you say you could see his indicator and turned wheels, as a magistrate will go at least 50/50. Good luck.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 років тому

      +David Tomkins Cheers for the input David. But in this case, I literally saw him for probably a second before he just pulled across the whole lane, as soon as I saw him I began to brake hard but he came straight across before I'd stopped. Thankfully I've a witness and I'm going to view CCTV tomorrow to see if it has been captured, so fingers crossed.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  7 років тому

      Hi Gordon, yeah I was hoping it would just be something minor but as I rode it to BMW I could see the forks were badly bent. As the GS has the semi-active suspension it's a fairly complicated setup, so the whole front basically needs replacing. Hopefully the insurance will sort it next week all going well. Believe it or not, the cretin that did the U-turn in front of me is now claiming personal injury!

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Kenny,
      I used to be a police officer in the Met in London. ‘TeapotOne’ was the callsign for the mobile tea wagon which would be deployed anywhere where there were large scale deployments of officers, and it just meant you’d get 10 mins off the front line to have a brew and get your breath back.
      As I was taking a career break to do my RTW trip, I just called it ‘TeapotOne’ - and it’s stuck.
      I’ve never ridden the GSX-F, my first bike was a GSX-R 600, then I quickly moved to the GSX-R1000

      I've been in the exact same spot with my 800gs. Filtering, car in-front U-Turns, straight into the front right wing. Insurance went on about a year with little to no input from myself - clear as not at fault. If your incident is as you describe you should be cleared by a mile.
      I will say, your experience with a new insurer with an on-going claim was completely opposite to me, though. I was told because of the on-going claim that they had to assume an at-fault position, so I had to go into a new policy with 0yrs NCD. Did get the difference back eventually however.

    I have had a helmet cam for a long time as i worked in central London and some of those drivers are crazy. I also bought a Helite Turtle recently at the NEC. I bit bulky but i got used to it and again in a accident the back and neck protection should come in handy.

      Hi Stuart, sorry mate I don’t quite understand. Are you enquiring about the bike? If so it was repaired and that was that. He admitted fault thankfully, then a few months down the line he tried to say it was 50-50. We went to
      Court and they found 100% in my favour, job done.

    Cant say im overly impressed with your style of riding, not surprised you've had 2 accidents, you need to slow it down fella, guess you dont have the crash footage ? lol

      Another expert master rider here eh. You should charge for your advice, I’m sure it’d be in great demand.
      If you don’t like it, don’t watch.
      Bye

      All im saying is from how you ride, the risks you take from speeding excessively to overtaking on white hatching's (have you seen that video of a guy doing these exact 2 things and got killed on an adventure bike like yours) maybe normal road users just dont expect to see a bike coming up that fast etc,
      Its got nothing to do with my expertise, no one has to be a expert to see from your riding style you would be classed as high risk, ive being riding all year round for 33 years and far from take the risks you do, does it really matter if you turn up 3 minutes later ?
      And from the comments its clear alot think the same as me.

      +moaningoldgit46 No I don't mate actually, these big Dave tire bikes offer better low down grunt at useable speeds, and they are comfortable for my fat, creaky bones too!
