That thing is a beast of a machine, that detroit engine sounds really good. Winterisation with cold snap forecast is a wise move to protect that motor. Massive project, but I'm sure you'll get it to a position where it will live for another 40+ years. Staying tuned, and looking forward to updates in 2025!
    Good work fellas. 👍🏼👍🏼

It’s certainly a mammoth task Simon, plenty of videos to show the progress, imagine driving one for 8 hrs with a screaming Detroit cleaning your ear wax out for sure🤣🤣

HI, just a tip, when pouring from a full drum have the spout at the top and as the liquid goes down turn spout on to the side and then the bottom and this will stop the gulping.

Thanks! I bet they’re harsh winters out there? It’s hit and miss with the UK🤦🏼

@@RustNRestoration Indeed it can be harsh. Temps down into the -30C. and lower happen.

I'm impressed how easy the engine started, there is some serious amount of coal dust on that machine for me the first thing i'd do when starting work on it is pressure wash the crap out of it to see what we're working with (back of the rad looked choked with dust to me), if the radiator is holding water although the fins look badly damaged it may not need re-coring/replacing (could get expensive as it looked like it had a transmission oil cooler in the bottom) just a bit of time to straighten the fins up, off this subject I know from your previous vids you do a few mini excavators, you don't have any info/data on a 1997 Fermec/Case type 16 mini excavator by any chance?

Hi Steve thanks for commenting, we noticed the pipes coming out the bottom of the rad and have had a look to see if there’s any suitable replacements on the market, what sort of information are you looking for for the Case type 16?

All we need to do is get a vintage plant show for this area. We have well over 100 items of classic within five miles of each other

That would be great, used to enjoy the Groesfaen show years back but I fear in todays health and safety culture we’d be up against it but never say never👍🏻

    I had a 200-4 Dynahoe with a 471 .
    4 n 1 front bucket.
    Weighed 40,000lbs .
    Dinosaur.
In 1970s 80s these machines were all over NYC construction sites .

They’re heavy, poor turning circle, loud but unique bit of engineering history and they’ve got some power, we love it👍🏻

@RustNRestoration Before excavator era these ruled
They could be a payloader and load trucks then also dig trenches .
Mine was the size of a 966 CAT huge .
I am deaf from it lol 😂 Cheers 🥂

Wasn’t the 490 even bigger? The 190-4 weighs in at 22,750lbs which is 10.3 tons! You’d find a soft spot on a job without even trying, so yours at 40,000lbs would equate to 20 metric tons😧

If you had removed the bonnet it probably would have been a bit easier.🇬🇧🇮🇪
