And you kept clean during the affair!! Tip: For those pins replace the bolt without washer and strike it to remove the pin. Protects the threads and keeps them clean. Better to replaced a headed up bolt than deal with pin damage. Colin :-)
nice work pard! Case is a dam good machine only flaw we ever found is the pins are to dam soft and need replacing way early even with beein greased ever day!
Nice shoes. Safety first, ha! Interesting that the pins have that keeper but can go either way. The pins on my truck have that same tapped keeper bolt and washer, but then the whole pin is tapered from the other end so it can't pull through no matter how tight you make your bolt. Good to learn a different design. That little keeper would have pissed me off!
Sometimes I think replacing all the seals inside the cylinder is easier then then the wrestling it takes getting the cylinder out. I’ve repacked all the cylinders on my Case SuperE along with all the hoses. Even gave it a fresh paint job and new decals.
Hydraulics are the most fascinating part of any heavy equipment! Fluid doesn't compress. I guess what's cooler than the cylinders is the hydraulic pump. Cool job. However I wouldn't have done that wearing sandals with my luck I'd drop the sledge on a toe.
Hi Chris where do you get those good quality "Swedish nut lathes" L.O.L . about the only thing I find most adjustable wrenches good for is using them as a hammer. A few of my customers try doing their own repairs before calling. They chew the crap out of the fittings then it's my problem to deal with when they rounded all the corners off, or busted the wrench with the cheater pipe as it wouldn't come apart. one guy destroyed a huge ex army wrench that was about 3ft ft long ,thinking he could get more leverage using a 20 ton jack to push on the handle.he was trying to remove bolts with 3" heads on that had been there for about 30 years!.
thats why there are left handed adjustable wrenches and right handed, they are really only suppose to be turned 1 way or else the adjustable side will flex.
+Ken Rhodes they Break. but it's better than Losing a Toe because for it to be Osha approved it only has to take 45lbs of force from 4 feet in height. most of the things he deals with is over 100 lbs. That would crush a steel toe and could possibly cut a toe off. That Hydraulic Ram probably weights more than 200 lbs.
I have always wondered where OSHA comes up with its regulations. The steel toe is a joke when you work with things that are actually heavy. I use to work in the Ship building industry. Some of the parts we worked with were over a ton we all new that if they broke free and your toes were under it you could kiss them good bye.
I'm just curious, why you didn't put a block of wood under barrel, then just take loose gland and ram and pull out and leave the cylinder in there. Seems like a lot of extra work to do to me.
I've rebuilt a cylinder or two before and if they are easy to get to like the one on the backhoe I always pull them. If you take the ram out you risk damage to seals/packing trying to install it in the boom = your dime. If i'm paying to have it rebuilt now all the tiny metal shavings and bits of rubber/packing will be flushed out and cleaned and if it develops a leak, no questions its their dime. just my thoughts.
I was kind of hoping that you would show yourself repacking that unless of course you are super busy I in the gentleman that I used to work for up here in Indiana a little town called Dunkirk we done his if not fun but it can be done
I know this video 6 years old , but why do you have the camera right on top of what your working on? If it was a couple feet back a person could see more
This proves there are many ways to do this job,...my way was slightly different,...but it makes no difference because you got the cylinder out your way,...and that's all that matters. I was getting nervous, when I saw you were only wearing sandals ! Although like you said , it was damned hot there, and steel toe work boots would've been hotter, I guess.
I do enjoy your videos, but sir didn't your wise grandad tell you that there is no such thing as a safety sandal, I know it's hot but a busted toe/foot could lay you up for weeks, just an observation, keep the vids coming when you can.
Im a farmer and have some similar equipment as you and I always enjoy watching your repair videos. Thank you for making them. Im glad I follow you.
thanks for watching!
And you kept clean during the affair!!

Colin :-)
Nice job. It's really nice having all the right tools. Great video!! That heat is a terrible thing.
Gotta love wearin' sandals while working on heavy equipment, lol!! Be careful, Pal!
I like the OSHA approved footwear.
Have you ever thought of using a brass drift pin instead of damaging your pins? They work beautifully!
LOL, love your safety shoes there...
Great job Chris, if I was doing that job with flip flops on I would sure as hell drop something on my foot or toe.
Love those Australian safety boots mate 😂
Steel toed flip flops! Wonders never cease to amaze me!
It will only take dropping one of those pins on his toes and he will give up those flip flops QUICK!
I see you've got your Aussie Safety boots on. Go Champ. LOL.
If you like your toes....wear your work boots. Good video.
nice work pard! Case is a dam good machine only flaw we ever found is the pins are to dam soft and need replacing way early even with beein greased ever day!
Looked like work to me but then I'm retired. Good job on keeping clean while pulling that cylinder, they can get ya messy.
Nice shoes. Safety first, ha!

Facing a challenge to remove backhoe cylinder - stumbled on this video. Nice.

I also bought a 1973 Ford f -700 DUMP trk to haul and stock pile gravel here on the farm
Your very brave to do that type of work with flip flops on. Great video. Thank you!
flop flops or slip on boots its not going to really matter if that heavy thing falls on you
True. Thanks for the video. I learn a lot from you.
Very cool!!! nicely done!
Too bad, you did not support the boom underneath the pin you removed.
why wouldn't you support the arm to take the preload off the arm and the cylinders?
Well snazzy, I just bought cylinder kits for my CK580 and just repack them in place, takes an hour or so each.
Good job Chris!!!!
I bought a 1966, ck 530 180 Diesel Backhoe for the farm getting ready to dig gravel out of a natural gravel bank on the farm
And make a slide hamer ,that goes in the threaded holes. Steve in Thailand.
Ur amazing at ur job

haha i love my adjustable wrenches! but they will round something off in a heart beat
thats why there are left handed adjustable wrenches and right handed, they are really only suppose to be turned 1 way or else the adjustable side will flex.
This is so funny I just pulled the same cylinder off on my super M and this video shows up
I love your Fred flintsone foot wear lol
got to love the japanese saftey boots.
what did they charge to repack the cylinder?
Where do you get the steel toe flip flops =]
I was admiring those OSHA-approved flip flops myself!!
Need to get a pair for my wife!!

I've never had a problem. Just was curious. Thanks for replying.
i rather the cylinder shop do it, that way they have it all. plus it can be tested to make sure it works right
I am Peter I love your videos your are the best how do you use the back hole
Love it, one thang bout in the dirt jobs, you got to no how FIX yo own machines
I was kind of hoping that you would show yourself repacking that unless of course you are super busy I in the gentleman that I used to work for up here in Indiana a little town called Dunkirk we done his if not fun but it can be done
couple of jacks?
Loving the Crescent wrench with the cheater jammed onto it!
Would have blocked up the boom FIRST
I know this video 6 years old , but why do you have the camera right on top of what your working on?
If it was a couple feet back a person could see more
Patience,patience.
Lol Not to bad except it’s a little effing hot.
Thanks the the videos. I'd say it's time for a new lift strap. lol
I replaced the bucket tilt cylinder on Tuesday. Got hydraulic fluid all over my sandals
I had a great Monday. I found a new place to launch my pontoon and had a few to many Beers after I got home. Enjoy
PS try looking for a "Motion Industries" shop near you for hydraulics.,I hear they're pretty good?
This proves there are many ways to do this job,...my way was slightly different,...but it makes no difference because you got the cylinder out your way,...and that's all that matters.

Chris...About how much does that cylinder weigh?
im not sure probably 2-300 lbs
Thanks Chris. I would never have guessed it was that heavy. I have a fair sized Kubota tractor and did not have a clue on the weight.
I'd say you got your good out of that nylon strap.
Did that dent the tube? If you can crack the nuts repacking is easy. Buy the spaner from Case.
Get your self a set of rachit spanners, steve in Thailand.
You go to Hills?
dropped it off there today
Had a customer lose a finger doing this. The sad part is i can rebuild the cylinder just as fast still on the machine!
Woody Patterson do you have a video on that?
Yes... do you have a video on that? I have to repack 2 cylinders on a backhoe. Thanks
Wish all my repairs went that easy.
that aint no lie! LOL
I've worked on some old dump truck cylinders and I would rather pay taxes than do that again!
You need to get a mount for your head for the camera
Flip flop OMG !
Operation cylinder is one the way. .....
خودايه من هه ر توم لبيره دوعا كانم قبول كه ي
Hope you greased all those pins when you put it back together you didn't show us..
ok if you know what your doing its half the job...I had a 7500 ford and just took it to the dealer...
...in flip flops... I would have smashed nine kinds o' hell out of my toes if I tried that in flip flops.
This may be an odd question but Chris are you married? Just wondering
what,,,, no cursing???
He got to many toes he trying to lose some ..
I need job sir
You REALLY work around equipment with flip-flops on instead of work boots.....
its not hot yet chris just wait
I do enjoy your videos, but sir didn't your wise grandad tell you that there is no such thing as a safety sandal, I know it's hot but a busted toe/foot could lay you up for weeks, just an observation, keep the vids coming when you can.
According to Chris, there's no time for safety lol
LOL. Like every other video I've seen on this subject, you've skipped all the important steps leading up to this point.
I'm not going to sell any gravel because mining control will then get involved
Not a good idea working on large steel items with flip flops on.
Wear sum steel toe boots rookie
I like your videos but , them gay ass flip flops you need to lose them !
