This is going to be an exciting restoration to follow. Never seen the like of this one before, a true monster of a backhoe! Bravo for saving this one gents.
Thanks wrenchreviews! It certainly is a rare surviving beast across the water! Especially with the Detroit 4/53, we think it was a demo machine sent over from Illinois before Ruston fitted Ford engines to them, they weren’t sold in great numbers in the UK and the fact that we’ve saved this one is testament to its build quality👍
I’ve never seen anything like that before!! What a thing to behold it is. The detroits are 53 ci per cylinder, if it’s leaking oil, it means it has some! Usually the rack on the injectors sticks inside the rocker cover when they sit, bear that in mind when you come to start it after a period of time. Good work saving a peculiar old machine!
Thanks, I’ll check the oil every time before starting, I’ve seen a great video on UA-cam about the injector rack sticking on early engines before Detroit modified the rack to be spring loaded if one stuck, also the video shows how the flap operates in the supercharger if the engine does run away cutting of air supply👍🏻
@@RustNRestoration deboss garage did a forced runaway situation years ago, on a 16 (2 v8’s together). KT3406 did one too. The 53 series will be pretty old, the went to 71 cube per cylinder, then 92 after that. Ol2stroker is a great chanell to watch for Detroit stuff.
Wow! Fantastic old Ruston, back in the 70's I worked in a civil engineering company and we had a couple of 10RB's a 19RB a 150RH hydraulic 360 and a 220RH hydraulic 360 excavators, great old machines I remember going to their factory in Ipswich (I think) to view assembly. Keep up the good work!
