We tried to revive the old starter but it was not economical, hope you enjoyed the process of fault finding, good batteries and good starter essential as a base to start👍🏻

Prices have gone really high in the UK for everything😢

This is what we thought, refurb would be cheaper than new but the guy I use said it was cheaper to get a replacement by the time he repaired the original, it was a really good price and the owner tried to get a new one which was twice the price!

Thanks, it goes to show how good those engines are, the old starter motor and the difficulty in starting it was why it was parked up I believe, hopefully it will have a new lease of life👍🏻

I did lift up the rubber matting and it’s starting to show the rust inside where it’s been sat so long with old wet dirt and moisture😣

It wasn't long enough nor was the ring terminal big enough to fit over the stud on the solenoid. We did try it

We did. The bucket was dropped off and re latched before tracking it out. Unfortunately can't include everything as the videos will be far too long. Same reason there's a large portion of fault finding missing. But further to your point it would have been blatantly obvious if it wasn't latched as the bucket would have been swinging at multiple points during the initial operation of the boom

That's exactly what it will be doing

I spoke to the driver who drove it full time and parked it up all those years ago, it was giving trouble and needing a booster pack to start it so with a change in the business direction it was parked in the corner and forgotten about as the fitter has his hands full with maintaining trucks now👍🏻

Steve, I gave it to my repair guy and he said it was cheaper to replace it, I’ve stripped down Lucas starters( in my younger days) and a quick clean off of the carbon deposits and kept them working

Dont believe everything you read, whatever makes views is what people do. Just say it hasnt run or moved in years and boom, people watch and subscribe. UA-cam has gone to hell since its used as a "job" now

That may be true for some other channels but there is nothing staged, scripted or exaggerated here and never will be

We get plenty of rain here, the brambles were really thick running up through the centre of the machine, the engine starting straight away is testimony to the modern engine

Your spot on Peter!🤣always had a soft spot for old machinery, no ad blue and computer brain on the old stuff, and when you think about it the skill and workmanship that has gone in to design and bring these machines from the drawing board to the workshop floor is truly remarkable, to see them just scrapped at the end of their useful life is a crying shame , hopefully we have saved and can prolong their existence for future generations to enjoy👍🏻

Hiya the pins are worn out so at the minute we’re on the hunt for a line borer! I have made up a jig for a magdrill and a boring head but not sure if it will be accurate enough👍🏻

We did have one but sold it after most of the muck was shifted👍🏻🤣

@@RustNRestoration I’m just watching the 2nd video on the Renault truck, I’m sure it’s going to be a problem to get spares as these were made by Saviem Renault before they were purchased by Volvo and going to France directly or through some government surplus companies may be a source of compatible parts, and they were also sold as Dodges in the 80/90s with that same cab 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You’re right Ewan and would you believe we went over to see it last night and a silage trailer had run away into the front pillar and smashed the windscreen🤦🏼so if you know of any Renault Maxter or Midliners please let us know👍🏻
