I won a guitar bid at Heritage Auction! I wish I had a cool tale of how I was vigorously bidding on it and came out on top - but it actually came down to a "set-it-and-forget-it" bid that I placed on the first day of the auction as a "it'll never actually sell for this price" and I ended up getting lucky!

Hey Austin, do the authentic custom shop toggle switch covers have anything written on the back? is the Logoz brand what they come with?
It never ceases to amaze me how a decent 2 or 3 thousand dollar guitar can be in the $7,000 to $13,000 price range.. Its nutz
Sleggs
Kind of what was said in this episode, you can ask anything, but you have to watch what they really sell for. But yes, prices of everything continue to climb.
Same as bitcoin and art. Market is artificially inflated by dealers.
@@blckbldng or Rarity
Its only worth what people will pay for it. If theyre that dumb then .....well.......more power to the seller.
That's a stage monitor in the foreground of the photo of Gary.
Good god a $1700 dollar fee on only $7K is outrageous.
It would be awesome if you could now get a Gary Rossington LP to go with the display. By the way . The thing in the foreground of the photo is a stage monitor. Most photographers try to get shots without those or crop them out as much as possible. I do agree though you'd think there would've been a clearer photo.
ONLY $7,000?? Holy crap, that's a ton of money. That blank spot on the Gary Rossington pic, is actually a stage monitor.
I’ve never understood the appeal of any slash guitar, there’s nothing rare or different about them other than price.
It’s a monitor bro… that something in the foreground
It's a monitor by Gary's feet!
After having not watched guitar videos for a while, it just hits me how ridiculous the prices are for signature editions..
its like guitar gentrification or something
My 1st guitar was a Gibson the paul 79 model that i have had for 35yrs. Got it from my brother in law, he bought it new. Lives in its case barely played in close to if not mint condition. Great player sounds killer. Was fun seeing a the paul on the show.
That UFO in the Rossington display case is probably a stage monitor.
Damn on time all week Trogly, way too go bro!
YES I love those Kirk Hammett picks! I love Jazz III’s and I love the purple sparkle on them. The green version also glows under UV light.
I’m loving that Firebird & hope that you’re able to get it fixed up.
Lol I'm a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gary Rossington fan. I saw that same listing for the display case. I think it's great that you ended up with it.
"Yeah, it's another Slash guitar..... sorry about that folks". BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh yeah, expensive instruments collected for estate planning purposes, You can pass fair market value of the instrument (as of date of decedent's date) to the heirs. FMV includes the increase in value when held by the decedent. Example: Austin buys a Slash LP for $10k. At the time of Austin's croaking, same guitar was worth $100k. Austin's heirs gets the guitar with the FMV basis of $100k. As they were nonchalant about Slash, guitars, and Guns & Roses, Heirs eventually sells same for $125k. Only the excess $25k would be taxable (at capital gain rates). Another point: if a musician buys an expensive instrument to use in their trade or craft, they get to write off the purchase as depreciation over say a 3 to 10+ year period. depending on the type of asset. One notable tax case involved a collectible violin bow that was used by the artist. Artist was entitled to write of the use depreciation-but the bow actually increased value! Needless to say, I dont acquire cheap instruments. (I have a LLM in Taxation. (My post is strictly presented for informational purposes only)
I recently sold an 80 year old comic book through a Heritage Auction and it exceeded my wildest dreams
In the Gary Rossington showcase piece, that thing in the photo is a stage monitor. (Last I heard, Gary was told by his doctors to either get off the road or “die with his boots on”.)
Man those Zoot Suites are cool looking.
The dark corner on your Gary Rossington display case is a stage floor monitor .
I have that tie. They had an SG one and a 335 too.
I was shopping for drum stuff at my local Music Go Round. Saw a Les Paul and immediately thought "Trogly!"😉
In the photo on the Gary Rossington display case, the dark thing in the bottom 10:26 is more than likely a stage monitor!
I'd love to get the rainbow Zoot suit SG, but I hate the name Zoot suit. Any skaters here will know why, and likely agree with me. It should also be mentioned that it is a plywood guitar. I don't if skateboarding started the colored veneer plywood thing, but it definitely made it popular.
I bought a '67 ES 335 from Heritage several years ago. They said all original metal parts, but one pickup was an old Maxon (non original). They did disclose the nut was an amateur replacement. In the end, I'm happy for the good deal, but I was buying for playing, not collector value. It's now worth at least a few thousand more than I paid, even with a replacement pickup and new bone nut. Great guitar
My favourite is my 79 Paul, sounds and feels great. Bought it from a friend in early 2000’s for £300-350. Never selling it
Troggy the black box on the floor by Gary Rossington is his floor monitor.
That finish on the Firebird is a testament to Gibson QC.
...and Murphy "Labs".
Always fun when my anti-Gibson bias is confirmed.
🤣
are we seriously supposed to drool and overpay over everything “Gibson” ,no matter how ordinary, errored or decayed ?
If you sell pickups to what do you recommend to Luthier's for their handmade boutique instruments.
That "the Paul" had some great flame figuring!
Video Magnifico!!! I would TOTALLY rock that sweet Gibson neck-tie...really says " I mean business, but I like to party."
Z is for late. Food shopping. That SG is amazing. I love SGs and it is Chloe approved.
What could be modified on the Zoot Suit SG series to make them play better, just a new fret job?
I think the SG is a 1979. There was a Christmas Add in G.P. that read; Own an SG for 1/2 a "G" as they listed for $499.99 & That looks like the matching 'The Paul',1980 had the 'firebrand' instead of the Gibson gold water slide........ You Rock Trogly ;)
I recently got the chance to look at a Les Paul Zoot Suit and it weighed an absolute ton! The owner said he can’t play it standing up for long
Usually the Les Pauls aren't too bad. Must be an abnormally heavy one!
I’d be willing to bet that the reason why they started selling that TP6 in a vacuum sealed package is because if that part is sitting on the shelf in a really humid environment. That very thin gold plating would start pitting and peeling before it ever came out of the box.
Wow! That tie is really something.... please don't be offended when I say that it reminds me of the Les Paul version of the piano tie.
I almost bought those Dirty Fingers for my Explorer. I seen the listing a day before the video and I kept checking back because I figured it would only be a matter of time.
Like Elon are you single handedly reviving the Brazilian burst market w a tweet and a checkbook!
Cool stuff, though I’m absolutely NOT a Slash fan. I was a bit shocked by the amount you paid for that signature guitar, but to each his own!
Wow that sg is mint
i've never understood why being the highest bidder is called winning. to me making the highest offer is still just buying.
In some auctions - It can be a real fight to "win" the chance to purchase!
Technically you are buying, but your bid has “won.”
An auction format can be one of those rare instances whereby the winner turns out to be the loser as well
It's a competition.
Congratulations you get to give us three grand!
People are out there asking $5k for the zoot suit SG's lol. The Les Paul, maybe for the exact right buyer.
AUSTIN!!! Don't you EVER slice open a package with the blade facing your torso!!!😯😯 Have you gone bananas!? SAFETY THIRD!!
Yes, you could cut your t-shirt with that thing! Kids these days I tell you what.
Your dedication and focus to what you want like the museum just absolutely overwhelming and makes me rethink my goals and decisions. I appreciate you
Unless I really couldn't vibe with it, I would never let that The Paul go
Definitely one of the nicer ones
It's got some sweet flame in the wood for sure.
how fantastic done,
Mid 90's on that TP-6
Those 2015 cases are cool, but I had a Firebird in one for a while, and it was BIGGER than an aftermarket BASS hard case.
Shipping FIrebirds is BRUTAL! LOL
@@cataclysmicconverter I can only imagine trying to ship a Thunderbird, that one would have to be a “local pickup” sale.
@@joermnyc You got that right. I had to put mine on consignment at a friends music store.
You should put those dirty fingers pickups, and that TP6 on the Slash Les Paul!
How much
My friend Paul from Korea used to make guitar minutcher in 81
Not too sure the TP-6 packaging is from the 2000s. Didn't see a barcode on the back of the package. I would think by the 2000s most everything used barcodes
Even in the 80's, but yes it's definitely older merch.
Through the out
Most Slash guitars are ugly but that one is the worst
Pretty plain and uninspiring for sure. I'd rather have my standard issue flame tops with regular rosewood for around the $2K I paid for each.
The Zoot SG's are hideous but also kind of cool!
So the bridge studs are called TP-040? 😄
Well done Scott, you made the podium for today and earned a Silver Medal.
@@sgt.grinch3299 thank you Sgt! 😃
You really have to wear that tie the day you open the museum.
That looks like a wedge monitor in the photo to me.
At your place, it's Christmas every weekend. It's really nice to watch the Gibson beauties 😉👍
Oh, it's a..... Les Paul... im so bored, i could die...
Thats not something thats a PA system monitor in foreground in the photo
The Brazilian Dream was/is a boring to look at and expensive... a deadly combination
Evening all!!
Musicians call those "monitors" bub! No mystery....
I've never really been a fan of the Zoot Suit SG's, until I saw one being reviewed on here. They've kind of grown on me now. Trog, that's a stage monitor at Gary's feet, and a major reason for much of my hearing loss, lol
I love how these look. If I could afford one I’d gig the crap out of it.
Simfort does not work either!!
That photo of Gary can't be that old. I'd say earlier 90's at best. I'd be far more interested if it was an older photo from the original lineups before the crash.
He has the box !!
Not only that, it came with a blown up grainy photo! 📸
GOV came after me for my Dad's estate taxes 22 years after he died, for fees that were paid at the time but there was no existing record to prove it (obviously after 22 years who would), and they charged me interest for the entire 22 years! There was no "statute of limitations" for GOV obligations.
There's no stopping them from getting their money. One way or the other, they get their money.
@@cataclysmicconverter except in this case twice
@@jimmyjames2022 Oh, that's awesome man! 👍
That johnny winter should be triple that. It's a shame if I ever come into stupid cash it will be mine. Lom
Really sad to see the paint flaking on the JW Firebird. That’s a bloody expensive guitar to have something like that happen so soon. I had really fancied one of those (not that l could spend $10k on a guitar) but this makes me glad l couldn’t afford one. I hope either retailer or Gibson give you a refund on it!
Zoot Suit, cool for low values of cool.
Are the Sweetwater monthly giveaway’s worldwide or only USA?
I don't know what it is about you and those Slashes, Trog...
Gotta play 'em to understand 'em I guess
@@Trog You should diversify and score one of the Michael Bloomfield and Paul Kossoff models. Up there in Slash pricing, but sure to appreciate big time as they're not nearly as prevalent.
Man I would not know what to do if I would win a guitar u no I told u about how I had to sell me 2 les Paul’s to help out with my daughter so not having a guitar for the last few years have been hard that’s why I like looking at your channel every day awesome man best channel on UA-cam
My fave was the SG Zoot Suit.... I remember when those were brand new, wish I would have bought one then. That's a shame about the Johnny Winter Firebird and the paint starting to flake off like that. I hope Sweetwater takes care of you Trogly.
Not crazy about that Slash Les Paul it's just kind of plain looking and to charge that kind of money for that guitar just because of his signature and some doodads is way too much in my opinion...
Gary Rossington is a fantastic player. I love Southern Rock and Skynyrd ruled the roost.
Yes, Allen Collins as well. Ed King was no slouch, don't believe me, check out the Strat work on Sweet Home Alabama, all the good stuff in there is from his '60s (I think) Strat. Love the band, and great episode!
Then you must like Blackberry Smoke?...lol
The best band to come out since the 2000's began but it took me until 2017 to find them...lol
@@okayestguitar66 Allen collins played the strat on second helping, famously he hated that strat and dumped it immediately after the album. Steve Gaines was also great
Indeed!
I used to cringe they'd wheel poor Allen out during shows in his later years.
Now that egregiously over priced firebird is worth more as it’s an original Murphy flop.
It looks like a Monitor
Lol I won a tele elite at heritage in November
That buyers premium is insane.......
nice a new video
rip gary😢😢😢
Nice episode today
I forget to comment sometimes so that it helps a bit
6:42 the neck and heel on them just ruined it. This is the design that needed the 61 heel. The volume and beveling is perfect. 24 frets. '68 heel. Ugh..
I'd have to mod the thing and wrap it in carbon fiber. I'd get a friend to do the carbon actually despite being fully capable and certified.. My friend has the gear available.. ;) prepreg.
Well to me it's a nice guitar and nice looking one as well. Id not pay that price for a les Paul standard slash signed or not. To heck with the hat etc. 9500 for this is rediculas. I can buy 3 flame tops standards for this money. The weight even at 8.73 pounds is too light for me. On to the next
Larry Burrell .....exactly!
You must do mad volume. How you put out so much good content you must not sleep much.
Why I hate aged guitars
I would like to know what it feels like to win one of your guitars. I imagine it feels way better than this
Ahhh it's his stage monitor
Run your finger across it and let paint fly ,then playthe hell out of it
I don't know why those are unsellable. I'd rock the crap out of it.
For their price?
I want my money back if I come to Troglys museum and he doesn’t have $500 per roll Gibson toilet paper.
You know someone would pay that for the name itself. And it is weird enough that I could see Trogly buying a roll for the museum! 😂😂
🧐🤦♂️😳(Medical personnel watching you run a razor blade across your own chest)
👍
