I typically order guitars like this though eBay, and they are in-stock in the USA. (some have arrived as fast as 7 days), although some sellers can slack in shipping time. If its a custom order, or they have to build it, it can take 1- 3 months to arrive.
I've recently discovered your channel. You do a great job of breaking things down and identifying the differences. I'm curious about what you said at the end about it being fine to import these because of some minor distinctions on the headstock and all the potential loop holes. I don't doubt that China isn't concerned about exporting these but the US Customs website says pretty clearly that it is illegal to purchase counterfeit goods and bringing them into the country may result in civil or criminal penalties. With all the new Chibson videos getting added on YT every day do you ever wonder if it will catch Gibson's attention and ultimately US Customs?
They are speaking of engagement in commercial use with the intent to defraud. The United States Department of Justice has been very clear that Infact it is Not illegal for anyone to purchase a counterfeit product for their own personal use. This is where everyone misunderstands the fact that it applies to the world of commerce for resale. (goods crossing boarders for resale) And then they would have to prove in court that, in fact it met the entire definition of the word Counterfeit. There are multiple criteria to be met. Since half of the definition of counterfeit is (the intent to defraud), (personal use) does not meet the definition. (This is why they had to state that private use and ownership is not illegal). Now selling as real aka (engagement in commerce) while being an exact replica does meet the criteria defined by the law. Most people do not understand this, and believe that any replica is a counterfeit. Selling guitar that is a Fake as real is fraudulent. However, not necessarily selling a counterfeit.
Would you ever consider selling this? If so I’ll buy it for wat u paid if not a bit more! I’m tired of having to search for a good seller. And this looks phenomenal
Have you ordered one from Aliexpress yet? I want to, but it seems like every time I see a nice guitar and I get the vendor name, they're not there anymore.
Well, after watching your great review i looked around a while and when i found the one i think i like as far as seller's feedback etc... i stayed up into the wee hours of the morning until my wife was in deep sleep and pulled the trigger. On the guitar, not my wife! 😁... i figure it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission right? Anyhow, thanks for doing honest reviews. I understand we can't expect to always get a perfect one like yours, but it's good to watch your in depth and straight up reviews before deciding to buy. Now wish me luck? Thanks!
My first Ghibson a red tiger stripe LP is a really nice guitar fun to play $200 great value. The second one I got a LP black custom was OK. Baseball neck and the tuners put in at an angle. Otherwise ok. Large pots frets ok. I think this will be my last Chibson for a while.
A friend in 1985 wanted to sell me his GIBSON Flying VEE which he said was uncomfortable and I thought looked stupid ! He wanted $100.oo and i said "No thanks". Talk about kicking yourself in the ass every day !!
They look beautiful. I wouldn’t think twice about buying one to take out playing live…..but what do they feel like? Do they feel like a good classic Gibson, or do they feel like cheap junk? You can’t convey that in a UA-cam video, and hardly anyone with vintage Gibson experience ever seems to comment on that.
And I am getting ready to make a video For my wife, time stamped, for each of my guitars so when I die (I'm 70) she will know the difference , by name, between my Gibsons and everything else. I don't want her thinking my CHibsun J-200 is anything but that at $300.oo rather than $3000.oo !
Mike, that is a nice one, I’ve always been a fan of a black Gibson Les Paul custom. Very interesting points you make fake or counterfeit guitars made in China and how they get around it by not making the guitars exactly like a Gibson.
They dont get around it, they are marked as Gibson and are an authentic fake! LOL the inaccuracies are mistakes The Chinese government don't care about trademark infringement, they see it as a tool for destroying the American economy, they even fake German cars over there.
I just start checking what different sellers offer. Most of the time, I end up buying something totally different than what I started looking for in the first place. Lol.
Hey man, really interesting video and guitar. I'd love to see your test for the nitro finish up close in a future video so people can know how to do that. It does look like this one has a Nashville Style bridge, and ABR -1 would have the post directly mounted to the body with no bushings. Nashville style has the bushings like what it looks like this has. Keep up the great videos dude.
I will test the next guitar that arrives soon. It's a custom build with a supposed nitro finish. What I should have stated is that they consider it in china a abr1 style in the advertising because of the pins. You are 100% correct. It's a lost in translation thing, with them I suppose. Thanks for pointing that out.
Just a word. While a lot of people badmouth Temu, they have a plethora of Chibson and other chinese guitars, many are the same as sold by Amazon and others, but at LOWER PRICES
Many sellers you can. However that would most likely mean that they would have to build it, and It would likely not be in stock. But most times, yes. Or you could have your own logo put on it.
Ive been doing chibson research since before there was a single youtube video. I owned an early custom when the logo wasnt even tilted. it had a super thin neck. weighed 11 lbs. no nibs. was fun though paid 250 at a local music shop in like 2009??? maybe? I dunno. Can anyone recommend "the best" current seller of a fat necked custom with nibs and all the accuracy? Id eapecially live to get an ebony fretboard. or at least look like it. Thank. I love these videos. If theyre gonna use the reverb algorythm to drive prices through the roof and blame it on inflation then I'll go to a different shop. sup chan.
I’d like to hear that beauty with some 80’s Tim Shaw pickups or maybe some Jim Rolph, CustomBucker or 57 Classics. The Guitar looks really good though.
Does Chibson make a 1959 LP Like Billy Gibbons' Pearly Gates? I'd buy one!!!! Cos who among us could ever run across one like he did, and the farmer wanted only $250!!!!!!!! Geeze, likely less money than these Chibsons.
Certain builders do make custom tribute guitars of just about anything you can imagine. Its is just about finding the right builder and seller. Cathy Zhong on Facebook is an excellent builder.
BTW did you know you can get good quality GOTOH and Floyd Rose products like the 1000 series or GOTOH tuners from indonesian factories for dirt cheap ?
Correct! Most of Gotoh’s stuff is usually made in Japan however, stuff like the GE1996t Floyd is made in Japan and the higher end tuners are made there as well. They play just as well as the German Floyd’s! They also make Gibson styled bridges and tailpieces that are metric cut so they would just drop in a Chibson or Epiphone styled guitar.
To me, the easiest way to spot a Chibson is the serial number and "MADE IN USA" on the back of the headstock. On a Chibson they appear to be CNC routed and are very clear, precise and perfectly aligned. On a real Gibson they are stamped, a lot less clear and tend to be randomly aligned.
Are true LP's made with a pin router? I would never have thought of using coconut oil, I have some that I bought in India in 1995 and its still good, I might put a few drops of pure sandalwood oil in with it.
I have one of these from way back 2000 when there was no such word as Chibson. Very nice guitar with a maple cap specs exactly the same as an LP and the wood is mahogany but some of them really suck. The one I have just needs Gibson or aftermarket parts but I always wonder as the importance of the musician with the bombardment of ..companies that are only concerned about money and who can make more. The musician is drowning in the abyss of junk.
In one video you said "check my unboxing because just now I can’t remember the sellers name", but I never heard you say the sellers name in this one either? 🤔
@@FultonStreetBeats know it says that the seller doesent excist anymore on AliExpress, but if the sellers name was in the description someone probably would find the factory again 🤔😇
I get what you want to say after 23rd min but i guess you are just afraid for your channel. After seeing legit sg and chinese face to face id prefer chinese one. Matter of fact i ordered slash victoria gibson copy for 240usd and will replace with chinese alnico2 slash copy pickups if stock arent good. Isn't there a good import version of Grover tuners though? I have an Agile (Korea) from about 2009 that came with them and they are virtually identical to some that I have from the early 80s...also from an import guitar. Great tuners! I'm just wondering out loud here because if they are good quality and feel right, maybe they sort of ARE legit. On the flip side, I got an ali express guitar with a "floyd" and that bridge was abysmally bad. I literally threw it in the trash. I bet some of the "grovers" are easily that bad.
The "custom + writing" logo on my white chibson pickguard was friggin painted on, not a sticker. I had to acetone it off, then use automotive cutting polish to make it look decent, but still not exactly like new. IDK why the heck they would paint it on.
I was going to buy a Gibson 335. I figured i would buy a Harley Benton 35 plus first to see if i even liked the shape and look before buying out on something i might regret. The HB and can sell, if it sits in the corner, i don't feel guilty. The HB plays, looks and is finished so well, I can't justify the expense of the Gibson. I had an Alpears pickgaurd made. It cost more than the guitar 😆. Still nowhere near the cost of the Gibson. Best purchase i have made in a long time. The neck hasn't broken either. 😮 Sorry Gibson. 😂
Harley Benton are making some fantastic instruments. You can get guitar with real stainless steel frets, and a Floyd Rose FRT-1000 for like $450. That is insane. I was Quoted that much just to do a refretting job on my Charvel.
I have shared this on my Facebook page. Awesome 👍😎 video. I personally love Chinese Guitars 🎸 🎶🎶 . Donner 🎸 West Creek IYV which is Korean owned Indonesia & Chinese manufacturing. As well as the knock off guitars. Best bang for the 🤑💰🤑 money... Cheers 🍻
I'd love to show you my black Chibsons 345... I've owned a 60's Gibson and (ok should never 😅 have sold it... Specially so cheap!) it was a long long time ago, that one was stereo, but otherwise I'm chuffed as hell. Looks great, sounds great and highly playable! I've 25 guitars now, some worth many 000s, but this £300 china'e stands up to them all.😉🎵👍
Gibson owes their neck to small builders building high end replicas of their bursts in particular Slash’s Appetite. I get what you’re saying and Gibson’s “protecting the consumer “ lawsuits, is really protecting their ass from competition from like Tokai and other imports. Looks like you’ve had some pretty good luck buying Chibsons, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be so lucky, but make no mistakes the Chinese know how to build a guitar now a days and they can hold their own with similar build quality to Mexico, Indonesia,Japan, and assembly line American guitars. If you can’t tell a Gibson from a replica, you best not be looking at 3000 dollar guitars. Looks like that one has great bones and if you’re like me probably want to upgrade stuff along the way anyway. Put some Gotoh Grover style locking tuners on it, I’d probably replace all the hardware with Gotoh. That’s a pretty slick looking Chibson the headstock gives it away the shape and the angle not as much the shape. Pretty cool they’re doing real nitro finishes now too. I’ve always been worried that they’d glue the neck in at the wrong angle or something everything else can be sorted as long as the neck is straight and set at the right angle. Wow I never thought of using coconut oil on a guitar but that’s a great or hack I bet it could bring a little life back to dead wrapped strings also As long as it has no petroleum in it it really shouldn’t hurt the wood and people use naphtha to clean fingerboards it’s the accepted standard really, I’d rather use coconut oil than naphtha now that you let us in on the secret
But it's a copy of a very expensive Gibson you said you don't care about it coming with a logo. But why would you buy a counterfeit? I do think it's a cool guitar. But, that's the only reason besides price you would buy these things!
I realize that you are not familiar with this channel and it's purpose so here a video I think that will explain it a bit better. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/AT6EY1CSqbQ/v-deo.htmlsi=fcMWKIpwC7-PqfY8
If the Chinese manufacturer had labelled the guitar as an "ABC" guitar, by now they would have built a very strong reputation for producing a fairly high quality guitar at a very reasonable price. There will always be many thousands of people who would never buy a Chibson for ethical reasons. The Chinese manufacture may have actually sold more product, if they were labelled "ABC" guitars. Still, I challenge anyone else to take a chunk of tree lumber, process the minerals into metals and then into finished hardware, produce the electrical hardware and apply a beautiful finish and then sell it for $250 to $350 dollars and make a handsome profit.
Not all of them. Although it was more prevalent. www.musicgoround.com/product/duluth-ga/40042-S000224449/Used-Gibson-2002-57-Reissue-Black-Beauty-Les-Paul-with-Lollar-Pickup
By the Jimmy Page definition yes. He was the one who(from what I’ve heard) that coined the term Black Beauty with his ‘57 three pickup custom. I could be wrong about that, but as far back as I could remember, black beauty usually meant three pickup black custom. Not the case anymore as Gibson advertises all black customs(all customs are only made in the custom shop since the late 90’s) as black beauty’s today.

It seems like you've been very fortunate on these guitars and hoping that you do one on a Gibson byrdland because you got me wanting to go for one I would like to get a lemon burst classic also but I don't have the skills and I'm afraid to mess it up working on a guitar but you have me wanting to get one of these I watch one reviews actually I've watched probably five or six and on one of these sites that you got a guitar from I don't remember which guitar it was but they got a Gibson byrdland replica and me being a fan of Ted Nugent and that's the guitar he always plays for the most part that is like my dream guitar and not in a million years could I afford an original but I'm very tempted to pull the trigger but I haven't seen you do a review on a hollow body Gibson replica and my feeling is that it's probably easier to do a better job on a solid body guitar but I could be wrong and I know you always say we're adults and buy at your own risk but I'm really wondering what your thoughts were on a birdland and if you might be doing a review on one of those in the near future and thank you for doing these videos they're very educational I appreciate how you do them and your honesty so thank you I hope you do a birdland guitar in the near future that would be really cool and again thank you
The byrdland guitar is a rocking machine especially when it's in Ted's hands I'm just curious what a three or four hundred dollar one can sound like and what kind of quality it might be so hopefully you might do a video on one someday I know I sure would be interested on how good they would be I don't know if that's your type of guitar or not I'm a mostly solid body guitar guy myself but I do have two hollow Bodies and they can rock and I do love the sound of them and I think it would be a great video 🙏
I got a chibson and I put a standard Gibson truss cover that fit perfectly. I think yours wouldn’t fit because it’s a les Paul custom. For some reason the diamond is too big and they had to shrink the truss cover. Their standard copies Gibson truss covers fit perfectly.
I wish I could find a custom that nice, I’ve purchased probably 6 or 7 of the customs and the binding is nothing like yours and the body is always to thin and the diamond inlay is never the right size. If you decide you want to sell it I’ll buy it
As much as I like to bad mouth Gibsons, what the company doesn't realize,is we will still buy their products,if and when we can afford it,the budget market isn't hurting them at all,it's paying them a compliment, and helping them step up their game, especially with their quality control,it's only common sense that if you can get something this nice for $240 bucks, why can't they do it,for a guitar costing ten times as much, they have done road the headstock logo game long enough, players are looking for, quality, features and bang for your bucks,I think it's funny as fuk, that we get to rub their logos right in their faces today, and remember that doesn't mean we won't buy a Gibson or Fender, they are losing the battle, because of guitar making technology, kinda late to go after trademark, these designs have been stolen for ages, every LP with different name is a counterfeit, seriously a bunch of BS if you ask me.
Gibson also have to prove they are losing money or customers because of the Chibson guitar. The price difference between a real Gibson and Chibson are a factor, its obviously a fake. If they are selling the Chibson for the same price as the Gibson, using Gibson parts then it could be a problem.

The United States Department of Justice has been very clear that Infact it is Not illegal for anyone to purchase a counterfeit product for their own personal use. This is where everyone misunderstands the fact that it applies to the world of commerce for resale. (goods crossing boarders for resale)
And then they would have to prove in court that, in fact it met the entire definition of the word Counterfeit.
Wish it were mine.
I’m stuck between this one or the red wine Les paul chibson I have seen online. I was about to get a silverburst but it has sold old already.
Nice t-shirt
13:48 I don't see a neck tenon .
Did you need to pay any customs fees ? Ive had my eye on one of these for a project.
No I did not have to pay any extra fees.
Thanks!
I will be rooting for you! The anticipation is half the fun. Let us know what you think when it arrives. Thanks for watching brother 🙏
Thinking of pulling the trigger myself. How was your experience? Were you satisfied with the guitar, and how long did you wait for it?
Does anyone have a link to one like this? I can’t find any other nitro ones
Beautiful guitar - great review - how does its sustain compare to mid-line Agile LP s ?
Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to try an Agile yet.
A friend in 1985 wanted to sell me his GIBSON Flying VEE which he said was uncomfortable and I thought looked stupid ! He wanted $100.oo and i said "No thanks". Talk about kicking yourself in the ass every day !!
Nice! Great build platform! 😊
Could you share with me the name of the seller?
Virgin coconut oil is amazing for many things
They look beautiful. I wouldn’t think twice about buying one to take out playing live…..but what do they feel like? Do they feel like a good classic Gibson, or do they feel like cheap junk? You can’t convey that in a UA-cam video, and hardly anyone with vintage Gibson experience ever seems to comment on that.
Thanks for the review.. Didn’t catch the weight.. how heavy?
A tick over 9 lbs, if I remember correctly. It was weighed in the unboxing video.
Is it for sale
I keep them all. I have G. A. S. Lol.
To bad lol I’m always looking for one I have found a few and love them
That actually looks like something Steve Gaines would’ve played if he was still alive!
Is that a woodgrain binding around the body and neck or cream colored? Hard to tell on the video.
It's a white mylar binding.
Any idea if there is a replaceable ABR Bridge that fits the Chibson LP standard and Custom? Thanks and great job!
I placed a Faber bridge on mine but I had to reroute one hole because the center-to-center distance of the studs on the Faber bridge was 2 mm wider.
Good idea, but at 70, you have a lot of life yet brother!
LOL the inaccuracies are mistakes
The Chinese government don't care about trademark infringement, they see it as a tool for destroying the American economy, they even fake German cars over there.
The binding dose looks huge
2/15/2024. All this being said, I have a "Chibsun J-200" 6 string on order ! So I am on your side.
What keywords do you use on aliexpress when searching for this specd guitar?
I just start checking what different sellers offer. Most of the time, I end up buying something totally different than what I started looking for in the first place. Lol.
I own one it's so beautiful can't tell the difference
Can you order these type of guitars from the sellers without a logo on the headstock?
Many sellers you can. However that would most likely mean that they would have to build it, and It would likely not be in stock. But most times, yes. Or you could have your own logo put on it.
Link???? To Buy ??
Ive been doing chibson research since before there was a single youtube video. I owned an early custom when the logo wasnt even tilted. it had a super thin neck. weighed 11 lbs. no nibs. was fun though paid 250 at a local music shop in like 2009??? maybe? I dunno. Can anyone recommend "the best" current seller of a fat necked custom with nibs and all the accuracy? Id eapecially live to get an ebony fretboard. or at least look like it. Thank. I love these videos. If theyre gonna use the reverb algorythm to drive prices through the roof and blame it on inflation then I'll go to a different shop. sup chan.
What are the finder board radius on these guitars typically. 12" are they flattish? Looks like it
I’d like to hear that beauty with some 80’s Tim Shaw pickups or maybe some Jim Rolph, CustomBucker or 57 Classics.
Curious, was your AY SG from early 200's with vibrola tail piece or the 2009-2013 with lightening bolt inlays?
Vibrola model. No ⚡️ inlays.
They should just sell them minus the Gibson logo. They seem to be fairly good budget guitars for beginners.
BTW did you know you can get good quality GOTOH and Floyd Rose products like the 1000 series or GOTOH tuners from indonesian factories for dirt cheap ?
I just discovered that last night when I was scrolling through. I will definitely test it out soon.
@@FultonStreetBeats Dont forget the fender necks from the Cort factory , ;) , cort is actually quite good company
Damn good video right there. Been using coconut oils on wood for years also! Thanks man.
I have my eye on one at Aliexpress. Is there anyway to know if it is a legit seller?
Look at feedback and make sure the respond quickly to questions
nice one brother!
Thanks for stopping by brother.
Are true LP's made with a pin router?
I would never have thought of using coconut oil, I have some that I bought in India in 1995 and its still good, I might put a few drops of pure sandalwood oil in with it.
Real Gibsons (Unless they recently changed the process) are done with pin router. Coconut oil will amaze you. Thanks for watching
Do you got the link for this exact one ? Would rather buy from this source than gamble on what I get
You are the Red green of guitars, lol. When you vid first came up I thought it was Red Green.
Folks are always bad mouthing reproduction guitars (IE Chibsons). But getting one was a way for me to own the guitar of my dreams - a Moderne.
In one video you said "check my unboxing because just now I can’t remember the sellers name", but I never heard you say the sellers name in this one either? 🤔
Read the description below.
There is no way im gonna pay 2-3k for name so i can play it in my bedroom.
So it is not the same. What they get close in one place has to be off in another place. It's a balancing act.
I had the same issue. I contacted the seller and he did send me a blank pickguard for free, only had to pay for the shipping.
I thought the Black Beauty had 3 pickups?
Plenty were 2 pickup versions. www.ten-guitars.de/en/guitar/Gibson-Les+Paul+Custom-57+Black+Beauty+True+Historic-2015
I wish I knew about Chibson guitars before dropping $1300 on a Gibson Les Paul tribute 😞
while the guitar is different to the genuine article the average joe at a live gig would be non the wiser to realize it is a fake.
@@12askerr I was surprised at how good it felt and played. They offer so much for the price. I bought a 15" and a 2x10 bass cab. They sound amazing.
I'd likw to order one but I'm afraid it wouldn't get through Customs.
Cheers 🍻
Thanks brother 🙏
🎸🤘🙂
Wow I never thought of using coconut oil on a guitar but that’s a great or hack I bet it could bring a little life back to dead wrapped strings also
As long as it has no petroleum in it it really shouldn’t hurt the wood and people use naphtha to clean fingerboards it’s the accepted standard really, I’d rather use coconut oil than naphtha now that you let us in on the secret
I don't care. I ain't paying all that money for a Gibson
Doesn't the black beauty have 3 pickups?
Not all of them. Although it was more prevalent. www.musicgoround.com/product/duluth-ga/40042-S000224449/Used-Gibson-2002-57-Reissue-Black-Beauty-Les-Paul-with-Lollar-Pickup
Gibson Custom Shop Historic 2-Pickup '57 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Reissue 2023 - Ebony VOS reverb.com/item/73068573?
By the Jimmy Page definition yes. He was the one who(from what I’ve heard) that coined the term Black Beauty with his ‘57 three pickup custom. I could be wrong about that, but as far back as I could remember, black beauty usually meant three pickup black custom. Not the case anymore as Gibson advertises all black customs(all customs are only made in the custom shop since the late 90’s) as black beauty’s today.
You did a really good job to share this with us
We need to trust other brands then the ‘overpriced ones’ whose make a good original (sometimes)these days

I'd be willing to bet this is a Jason Jia guitar. All the same specs and parts.

It seems like you've been very fortunate on these guitars and hoping that you do one on a Gibson byrdland because you got me wanting to go for one I would like to get a lemon burst classic also but I don't have the skills and I'm afraid to mess it up working on a guitar but you have me wanting to get one of these I watch one reviews actually I've watched probably five or six and on one of these sites that you got a guitar from I don't remember which guitar it was but they got a Gibson byrdland replica and me being a fan of Ted Nugent and that's the guitar he always plays for the most part that is like my dream guitar and not in a million years could I afford an original but I'm very tempted to pull the trigger but I haven't seen you do a review on a hollow body Gibson replica and my feeling is that it's probably easier to do a better job on a solid body guitar but I could be wrong and I know you always say we're adults and buy at your own risk but I'm really wondering what your thoughts were on a birdland and if you might be doing a review on one of those in the near future and thank you for doing these videos they're very educational I appreciate how you do them and your honesty so thank you I hope you do a birdland guitar in the near future that would be really cool and again thank you
Thank you for the kind words. Let me see what I can do in the near future. Thanks for watching brother.
Well, well, well
I wish I could find a custom that nice, I’ve purchased probably 6 or 7 of the customs and the binding is nothing like yours and the body is always to thin and the diamond inlay is never the right size.
It seems like they do a fantastic job with the les pauls but for whatever reason they can never get the sg right with the proportions and contours
Gibson has nothing to fear, Epiphone on the other hand.........
The dark side of the chibsons 😂
