Thanks for all your videos! I bought my first combo in 35 years last spring. Returned to fishing after all that time. It was an Abu Garcia black max from Walmart, about $60. Better than anything I’ve ever used before and caught a bunch of 1 to 3 pound bass. So I’m totally hooked. I gave the combo to my nephew this summer and now I have 4 setups in the $150 to $250 range including the BLat sick stick. This should make prices correct, hopefully. If not, my kids won't get any college fund, they'll just get a couple hundred pounds of soft plastics each.
The most fun fishing I have ever had was when I was young with my dad fishing out of a 14 foot 1976 sears John boat we worked on together. It costs a lot more to fish nowadays because the fishing industry get people to believe that you need certain gear and tackle to catch the biguns that they portray on ads and people, myself included, equate better gear catches better fish. So the saying goes that some gear and tackle catches more fishermen than fish.
You don't need to spend a bunch. But I will say this... The difference in quality of a budget reel compared to a 100 dollar reel and a 300 dollar reel is extremely noticeable. I have a curado dc, a kestrel elite, and a revo rocket, and the quality of those reels can't be denied. Hello Brian, I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate all the time and work you put into putting out these videos. The sacrifice from family !!!! I live near one of the greatest fisheries in the country atleast along the east coast. The mighty "Susquehanna River" is known for the fighting smallmouth bass!!.I am 65 and just started fishing with my son.He has been fishing since he was about 5 years old.I would take him,my chair and a good book!! I was an avid backpacker and hiker.Well I had a few health issues and knew that I wanted to keep in touch with the outdoors.I bought my first Hobbie fishing kayak and have been watchging as many videos as I can . Have been out some winter fishing, but I need to get the proper attie for this.(Dry Suits are expensive). If I lived closer I would love to attend one of your school sessions. There is certainly a lot to learn. Again thanks and always looking for the staight line! Scott
I'd say if you have $300 to just get into the sport of fishing as a new angler you can definitly get everything you need to start. From a handful of baits/lures to rod/reel/line. And then maybe what $1000 if you get yourself a cheap kayak, fishing bag/box(s), rod/reel/line and then your golden. Sure it seems like alot but right as a beginner your looking at that and your like I can't afford that. Believe me when I say if you buy everything but a kayak/boat of some kind and save to get it at entry you can afford to buy a kayak on cheaper end after a month or two. If it's what your really wanting to do you will end up doing it and buying one. So go and do it at the beginning. Get all of it in beginning and then if you don't like fishing then you have a kayak. Use it for leisure. And you won't regret it even if it's a SUP.
You are the reason I bought my 2023 Falcon f195. You are a true down to earth fisherman and not a guy pushing really expensive gear. Please keep being who you are and posting great content naturally.
I wish this type of message resonated with society so much more than it does. Not just fishing, but everything we think we just have to have gets inflated. Its sad that positive messages like this, which are 100% true, get overlooked by the shock jock click bait messages that YT is eat up with. Good work man.
This is why I always admire the way you explain things to people, so easy to understand what you are trying to do and say. Everything you said made so much sense, only a complicated person that like to overanalyze things and overthinking maybe cannot see what you mean.Everything you have suggested in the past that i put in practice has been beneficial to me. Never miss your videos BLat. Great work!!
Man I'm a teacher by trade and that felling is exactly why I got into it. One of the reasons I love surf fishing at beach is all the kids that come up and ask you questions or want to touch the fish.....some parents too lol.
I just got second place and big fish at a recent tourney with a 20 year old 7' tiger spinning rod marketed at catfishermen, $3 25lb mono and a $1 spinnerbait from wallyworld.
So funny you released this. Just watched two videos of how expensive bass fishing is. Couldn't agree more Blat. YOU ALL SHOULD JOIN THE SUF SCHOOL! Good stuff.
We had the 12 ft boat and we went crazy and got a 12v trolling motor. We didn't have money for a battery and pulled the battery out of the truck we took to the launch.
Our boat didn’t have any electronics on the river You can buy a Lowrance bullet for 100$ but you don’t need it. www.amazon.com/HOOK2-4X-4-inch-Skimmer-Transducer/dp/B077PDL6GR?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER But if you want to be a victim. Be a victim. These fish won’t catch themselves!
I was saying the video only has audio in the left speaker... I don't get the response you gave, my phone, headset and laptop all have only left channel audio on this video.
I couldn't agree more man... I have really nice things now but I grew up with next to no money fishing the same kind of way you mentioned. I worked up to what I have now but at the end of the day if I lost my big boat and all my "fancy" stuff I can go back to paper maps an aluminum boat with a flasher graph and 1 rod and reel because that would get me back on the water and doing something I've loved to do since I was a kid. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
I used to walk up and down the snake river with a medium/light spinning rod, and 1/8 oz jigs and a bag of 4” grubs. No other baits. Caught smallmouth all day.
I have an entire wire rack full of tackle 😂 I basically buy in bulk when the sales are good. I know what I like to use and what I'm running low on. My son still likes to fish with live worms, so I'll grab that with whatever miscellaneous hooks or weights that I'm missing for a specific trip the day before. So, it's like $10 here and there. I have 4 storage totes of soft plastics and a ton of plano boxes for all my other baits. Once you know how you like to fish it's pretty easy to put together a budget for the year if you track your spending. Black Friday and Independence Day sales are usually the best times to do buy in bulk.
I have a platform completely dedicated to that. If you want to be a part just shoot me a email or leave yours here. Brianlatimerstore@gmail.com is mine.
I brought a 9' GX2 spinning rod for $17.34 after tax it was half off caught it on sale it was $49.99 dropped down to $32 & sum down to $16 sumn I also got a $182 Lewis Custom XP Baitcaster combo that I'm about to fish with as well
Would love to see you do a video on the Zman willow vibe. Which weight and trailers you like. I bought a few packs and can’t wait until it warms up a little in Georgia to get the kayak out and try them.
I love the $20 idea for the month. I struggle with trying new things and giving a small limit and freedom to explore and just enjoy fishing is an amazing idea I may have to try!
@BrianLatimerFishing for sure. I honestly think being on the water versus stuck on the shore is a huge advantage though. Once I started fishing from my little 8ft pond prowler it was like a whole new world of fishing. I'll have the "big" boat someday though
Awesome video. I spend a lot of times on the dock teaching kids that are there and it’s just as exciting as actually fishing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to go fishing never threw a line in the water because I was just helping / teaching kids what I know. One day I will on a boat.
Did you guys listen to the segment on rods? How about the last video I did on the 50$ vs $500 combo. That video really debunks a lot of myths around equipment
You’re one of the true fisherman on UA-cam. Not pushing a $100K boat and another $50k in equipment. Just your average everyday fisherman just enjoying fishing. Your videos with your kids are my favorites. I think I went fishing with my father once or twice and that was after I was a grown man and he huffed and puffed the whole time. Your kids will look back on these days and smile ear to ear showing their kids how to fish
@@BrianLatimerFishing in a tournament a 3lb is great. My pb is only 5lbs so I get it. In a tournament that would make your day. I’m just saying bass are pretty small compared to other fish. Then again trout fishermen lose their minds anything over a lb. I love fishing. So many things to do
Gotta say this perspective is not true the majority of the time. Getting a descent aluminum bass boat WAS 8-10 thousand bucks about 10 years ago. Comparing bass fishing cost to 10 or 15 years ago is flawed in and of itself. I assume that's the time period you're speaking of. It used to be cheap to start fishing and i understand where you are coming from. Buying a boat and lures is far more expensive than when you came up and when i came up. Im 32, things have changed in 10 years. This stuff aint cheap no more
I really like the channel and support you 100%. But Really? You are to far disconnected from the weekend angler. Yeah I can get a cane pole, bobber, and a dozen worms and go fishing. But most angler products are outpricing the weekend angler. Keep up the great content.
@@BrianLatimerFishing That was a bad choice of words from me. You are correct that at its core, it can be cheap & easy to start fishing. My issues are with the increasing costs of decent equipment Rods, Reels, Hard Baits, Electronics, Boat supplies, etc:. Keep the great videos coming, I always learn something from them.
@@SOAngler I just did a video with a 50$ combo. Did you see that? The ROD and the reel!!! That’s pretty cheap. I can’t remember a time that equipment was that affordable.
@@BrianLatimerFishing I definitely watched it. I watch all you stuff. Again I'm a fan. I really liked the video of you and your boys comparing a $500 combo to a cheaper one. great stuff.
@@BrianLatimerFishing personally and this my opinion $5to$6 for a hard is the ideal price , hooks have gotten expensive, lead weights have even gone way up yes I still use lead cause I will never pay the price of tungsten, I still use some old Berkeley cherry wood rods and catch a lot of fish on I do have some more quality rods . But I know price of everything has went up thanks to government and that’s pretty much out of our hands. But I agree on somewhat of what you say in this video on the price of stuff . Yup soft plastics are cheap for this day and time but hard baits is not.
And I do understand u can take $20 and catch fish I’m not knocking that so don’t think I am. But in reality like I was growing up and I’m sure you was too along with everybody else when we see a pro advertising a bait and the wow of the advertisement oh we gotta go out and get it. Like when terminator spinner bait first came out it cost $10 back then and that was a lot of money for a spinner bait . But we get caught up in the wows in fishing. Best of luck this year and good fishing to you my friend.
@@MrYelporgobble that topwater is 9 bucks. They have a ton of crankbaits for the same price on my website shopblat.com. There’s some really affordable tackle that’s good stuff for you to use

Have been out some winter fishing, but I need to get the proper attie for this.(Dry Suits are expensive). If I lived closer I would love to attend one of your school sessions.
There is certainly a lot to learn.
Again thanks and always looking for the staight line!
Scott
I love making videos! I get a sense of fulfillment from doing this! Every time someone shares these stories it gives me motivation! Thank you
I'd say if you have $300 to just get into the sport of fishing as a new angler you can definitly get everything you need to start.
Absolutely!!! That would be a great challenge to do. Starting from zero!
$20 only covers my snacks lol (jerky, snickers, Gatorade, Red Bull for the drive home)
YOU ARE NOT WRONG!!!!🤣
You are the reason I bought my 2023 Falcon f195. You are a true down to earth fisherman and not a guy pushing really expensive gear. Please keep being who you are and posting great content naturally.
Congrats man
No way! I love that boat! Believe it or not…… that was the first falcon I ever drove!
Calm down blat! My wife watches these videos gonna have her questioning all my fishing expenses haha.
I wish this type of message resonated with society so much more than it does. Not just fishing, but everything we think we just have to have gets inflated. Its sad that positive messages like this, which are 100% true, get overlooked by the shock jock click bait messages that YT is eat up with. Good work man.
👍
This is why I always admire the way you explain things to people, so easy to understand what you are trying to do and say. Everything you said made so much sense, only a complicated person that like to overanalyze things and overthinking maybe cannot see what you mean.Everything you have suggested in the past that i put in practice has been beneficial to me. Never miss your videos BLat. Great work!!
Keep doing what you do bro
I just take my Walmart special me a box of Walmart, nightcrawlers and catch big bass
Man I'm a teacher by trade and that felling is exactly why I got into it. One of the reasons I love surf fishing at beach is all the kids that come up and ask you questions or want to touch the fish.....some parents too lol.
Well said!
What makes fishing great is that the guy with $20 in gear can pretty much catch the same fish the guy with $250k worth of gear.
It really does work that way!
I just got second place and big fish at a recent tourney with a 20 year old 7' tiger spinning rod marketed at catfishermen, $3 25lb mono and a $1 spinnerbait from wallyworld.
I catch most of my bass on wacky rig with yum elder magic worms
Caught my PB using that method
So funny you released this. Just watched two videos of how expensive bass fishing is. Couldn't agree more Blat. YOU ALL SHOULD JOIN THE SUF SCHOOL! Good stuff.
Thanks for being a part of the school man! I just filmed a new workshop today!
We had the 12 ft boat and we went crazy and got a 12v trolling motor. We didn't have money for a battery and pulled the battery out of the truck we took to the launch.
How did you find those fish? THOSE 3500.00 finders
Our boat didn’t have any electronics on the river
You can buy a Lowrance bullet for 100$ but you don’t need it. www.amazon.com/HOOK2-4X-4-inch-Skimmer-Transducer/dp/B077PDL6GR?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
But if you want to be a victim. Be a victim. These fish won’t catch themselves!
Audio only in left speakers
I hope you can get that fixed!
I was saying the video only has audio in the left speaker... I don't get the response you gave, my phone, headset and laptop all have only left channel audio on this video.
I was attempting to be helpful, not critical
I couldn't agree more man... I have really nice things now but I grew up with next to no money fishing the same kind of way you mentioned. I worked up to what I have now but at the end of the day if I lost my big boat and all my "fancy" stuff I can go back to paper maps an aluminum boat with a flasher graph and 1 rod and reel because that would get me back on the water and doing something I've loved to do since I was a kid. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Right on
I used to walk up and down the snake river with a medium/light spinning rod, and 1/8 oz jigs and a bag of 4” grubs. No other baits. Caught smallmouth all day.
at 4:58 in the video, what color is that worm? Is it the SMH WormZ?
I have been using a road runner underspin with a Bobby garland blue ice crappie bait to catch bass
I love your videos (KISS Principle) and I want more Bass behavior videos because I want to learn.
I have a platform completely dedicated to that. If you want to be a part just shoot me a email or leave yours here. Brianlatimerstore@gmail.com is mine.
I do the same. Fishing should be kept as simple as possible.
Great video. I really appreciate your effort to talk on the little man’s level. Great job!
I love the $20 idea for the month. I struggle with trying new things and giving a small limit and freedom to explore and just enjoy fishing is an amazing idea I may have to try!
Love how you keep it 💯
Appreciate that
Except for that boat lol
you certainly don't have to have it! I'm so thankful for it though.
Couldn't agree more!
$20 in baits is okay. But it’s the rod, reel, and line that’s going to cost ya.
I was thinking the same thing lures arent the problem its the other equipment.
Did you guys listen to the segment on rods? How about the last video I did on the 50$ vs $500 combo. That video really debunks a lot of myths around equipment
$100 swim bait = giant waste of money. All of the biggest fish I’ve seen caught have been on soft plastics!
Fishing with a purpose saves money and time!!!
A license costs more than that. Smh getting the line, rod, reel, pack of jigs and worms, along with a.license is more than a lot can afford now.
That’s too bad. Just stay in the house. Fishing is a privilege. No one is entitled to go fishing.
Bass fishing is funny like that. Pros use 100k worth of gear to catch 3lb fish. lol
What’s funny is people that don’t fish tournaments think 3 pound fish are small!!😆
@@BrianLatimerFishing in a tournament a 3lb is great. My pb is only 5lbs so I get it. In a tournament that would make your day. I’m just saying bass are pretty small compared to other fish. Then again trout fishermen lose their minds anything over a lb. I love fishing. So many things to do
I have never been able to cut line with my teeth, and it gives me the heebiejeebies watching other people do it lol
I don’t recommend it
What reel is that? I’ll dm you my address so you can send me that setup lol. I’m still searching for my boat too lol.
🤙🌵🧀🐟
😮 You can catch fish with cheap rods and reels < and cheaper baits < matt Robertson uses ugly sticks !
Matt is on a different level.

A bag of worms cost 5 bucks. Please explain more so I can understand. I’m interested to hear how you know what I’m connected to.
Baits is to ridiculous expensive specially hard baits
Interesting. What are you using that is so expensive? what is a ideal cost for you?
