My man BLAT is dead on here. There’s so much subliminal marketing in almost every video you watch. I’ve kayak fished 5 years now and I catch more smallmouth and multi species - and bigger smallmouth (4,5,6lb smallmouth DAILY) on the Mohawk River in NY. The goby have blown these fish up and this river holds 12+lb walleye, a 13 was caught New Year’s Eve 2023. I was there. 35 pound carp, I snagged, 17 pound pike which isn’t even “huge” for that river. And this is all one fishery, I fish the entire south end of the Adirondacks around the Great Sacandaga Lake. Came in 4th in my first GSLFF fishing tournament which is big fish, 4th in bass category in June, in September I placed 2nd out of 131 anglers. I caught 26 smallmouth that day, one 19 1/8 got beat out by a LMB 19 1/2 inches in the last 3 minutes that I guarantee was caught in the pond next door…but regardless..never have used electronics… just use knowledge of how bass set up, when they set up there, time of day, time of year.. TIME ON THE WATER IS ALL YOU NEED, LEARN YOUR FISHERY, don’t rely on word of mouth and electronics to find fish, just go fishing. Thanks Brian keep those lines tight as f. Have a good day man. Btw if you can help me out w some Minimax’s, SMH heads, and worms..lmk I’ll give you my adress. I just need enough for the season.. a box would do. Thanks man
This is why BLat is my favorite fishing personality, he talks fishing for beginners all the way to the pros. I’ve learned so much from this man, thanks for being a great human being.
I have ALL the electronics you can think of in my boat (lowrance) but within the first hour of being on the water I find myself forgetting to use them lol. Just out there fishing enjoying life. It wasn’t that way when I was tournament fishing. I was always thinking I needed more to feel “accepted” by the other anglers. Best thing ever was quoting tournaments and going back to fun fishing.
Man, you hit the nail on the head here. I used to fish bass tournaments and it started taking the fun out of fishing. I would spend 8 hours fishing and catch three 2lb bass, two 30" pike, four rock bass, a big bowfin (dogfish), three sheephead, a bunch of silver bass, and I would come home feeling like I had a terrible day fishing because I only caught 6 lbs of bass. While I also did well in some tournaments, I realized that everything I loved about fishing was being robbed by the tournament life. Feeling stress while you are fishing is the exact opposite of what that sport should be doing for you. Not everything about tournaments is bad, but I think it has caused a lot of people to forget why they fell in love with fishing, and therefore miss out on many of the joys that it once brought them. Now a days, the 8 hours of fishing I started this reply about, that is an awesome day on the water, as it should be!
Years ago someone told me that I should be a tournament fisherman. I said no. She asked why. I told her because I love fishing and I didn't want it to turn into work. I'm glad I didn't.
Man I dont know who to believe on UA-cam anymore I just take bits and pieces of the obvious and go fishing . Popular channels on UA-cam more of an infomercial than anything. Glad you keep it a buck B-Latt unlike most others
This is refreshing voice of common sense in a sea of noise. Too many have forgotten what fishing is really all about. It's getting out to enjoy nature, have fun and create some of the best memories with your friends and family you'll have in life. I'm in my late 60's and only recently have moved up to fishing from a small 14' boat, instead of the bank or dock. I started fishing when I was a 6 year old kid on farm ponds using a cane pole, a pack of Eagle Claw bait hooks, braided Dacron fishing line (any old timers remember that stuff?), a rusty bolt nut for a sinker and a can of worms. And yes it worked and I had a blast with my dad. Those are some of my fondest memories with him.
Tell it ! Never! Never! Let the lack of gadgets and gimmicks stop you from having a good time. I'm not a tournament fisherman and never will be. I have a canoe a couple poles and some tackle and I'm a happy fisherman. I still live for the excitement of catching a monster I didn't even know was there. Once it's a job the FUN ends. Thanks Brian your the real deal with no agenda. I enjoy your videos and your truthfulness . Keep making them I'll keep watching them. They call us bankers up here .
Brian, this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen! Everyone on this channel is always promoting their products. No matter how expensive. It’s refreshing to hear how simple it can be to go fishing. Thank you
Been watching you fish a long time Brian. It's nice to see you are still the same level headed guy you were 10 years ago. Keep up the good stuff, good luck this season.
It doesn't have to be. If you watch all the lure videos, you'll go nuts trying to buy and use everything you're told you need. Watch some videos on bass behavior and how they relate to cover and move based on seasonal conditions. Those fundamentals will simplify everything you do. You can fish the right lures in the wrong places all day long and get nothing. But if you understand where the fish are going to be, and how water conditions affect their mood, even a lure that is considered to be less optimal can still get you bites.
This is THE best fishing channel. I needed to hear all this. Ive been running around buying all these baits and kayak upgrades and not catching em. I recently wondered if I need to just do what I know and keep it simple. Great job on this channel, bro.
Thanks BLat, I have been tournament fishing for 20 yrs. It's amazing how many rods someone can collect. You really made everything sound simple. It is true. I started fishing from the bank and catching big ones. then watching the tournaments on TV I had to get a boat and so on and so on.
This has to be the most honest and succinctly made fishing video i have ever seen and i grew up watching the original guys in the 70's. A most excellent video.. great job!!
BLAT, this has to be the very best video that you have put out. You break fishin down so easily, I been fishin for over 50 years, still dont have a big bass boat, but i have ao much fun being on the water catching fish. You are so right about all the baits, and the seasons. Lay it down my friend, and keep Keepin it real... Peace.......
Damnnnn what a legit video. It's so easy to be caught up in the social media advertisment hype and being tricked into thinking, I need this, or I need that too catch fish. Good stuff Mr Brian!
The only thing I have to say is… God bless you, Brian! You are a fantastic pro fisherman and a man of high character! I appreciate you and, wish you all the best. Godspeed!
Thanks for keeping it real for everyday guys. I’m a 50 something year old that’s been fishing 20 years. I didn’t have anyone to teach so I’ve been winging it. I go and catch nothing way more than I do catching them. I will be looking at your school! Thank you!
That first topic is a great one. As someone who started out learning how to fish for bass through UA-cam videos. I feel like most people teach the textbook fundamentals which include seasonal baits but this seems to develop a close minded style of fishing. I think this is good for a beginner but it could be better if they also mentioned that everything is relative to that body of water and mentioning that fishing really boils down to the conditions. Understanding how to fish the conditions will start to teach you that all these baits can be thrown anytime and anywhere as long as the conditions are there. Great video B. Lat! Appreciate the realness!
Very good video I've been fishing for 35 plus years and I can use any bait any time and catch bass. Thank you for making this video to show and tell everyone this because youtube is very misleading to newer angles.
I joined SUF yesterday after watching a couple of your videos. This video just reaffirms why I am a huge fan and bought a year membership to SUF. No BS advise without telling us we need 50 rods and 4 12 inch screens haha. Thank you sir!
Just found your videos, thank you for keeping it real and simply as it should be! Fishing is skill . . . so true!! I just started a few months ago and I love it, learning so so much! I'm learning Texas rig and chatterbait right now on a new baitcaster (1st ever)
My Ranger boat is 32 years old and so is my mercury 175 and I still use my Hummingbird 998si and I have no problem catching fish and having fun. Definitely no the latest and greatest but it works.
BLatt this is the good wholesome stuff that people need to hear around the industry. Everything is so product driven that people feel like they’re justified putting 15k on credit cards every winter. You don’t have to!!
There is a zen-like quality of having to read the water, make your educated guess, and reap the rewards or be humbled. Marketing promises us success without the hard work needed to earn it… preach, Brian.
👍👍 Thank you, I needed this pep talk. I had just got back into fishing since COVID but didn't fish at all in '23 because I got so confused and discouraged with all the "must haves" posted on UA-cam, it left me feeling like "what's the point trying to fish if I don't have all that stuff?" Thank you❤❤
I am so glad you made this video! I was in my garage yesterday trying to get my boat organized and started to become overwhelmed with all the crap I have. This is helped me tremendously! I have been watching way too many Fishing UA-cam Videos 😁
I don't use sonar at all for bass fishing. I only use it to find crappie when they are sitting deep in open water. Usually from a float tube (with dive fins on) because I'm in Arizona and it's nice to sit in the water.
Awesome, clear, and positive instruction as always! You have helped me teach my kids and bring the excitement to fishing, no good electronics but fundamental bass fishing, B Lat instruction and techniques, time on the water and Zman gets the fish in the boat. We all watch your videos and I thank you for all the time you take to make the videos and help us. I hope you and your family are well and you have a wildly successful season!
I absolutely love this video. Everything about it is great. The more involved you get into a certain species the more expensive it becomes for you. But to just start and enjoy time by yourself or with your friend or family. It’s doesn’t take a whole lot of money to get started and just enjoy having a line in the water!
My man! This is very refreshing, The only reason I spent any money on electronics was for my salmonid and walleye fishing. IMHO this type of passive fishing is where its most helpful, my electronics are mainly for Corse plotting and depth reference. Other things bass, crappie, pike, perch, I'm all instinct. No amount of electronics can make up for time on the water.
This is the video I needed. I’m trying to get ready for a trip to Rayburn in April, and last time I tried throwing my confidence baits and colors that I catch fish with in Missouri. They didn’t work. I need to focus on what the bass are doing as opposed to what I want them to be doing.
So true you dont have to have electronics right now I have none and we catch all kind of bass but wanna graduate from no electronis to some lol because they will definitely help even just knowing the depth is a great help, great video
Idk if anyone has seen him on tiktok or instragram but theres a guy that goes "listen come here" before talking about a random topic typically food. But Blat reminded me so much of him in the video when he's grabs the camera and brings it closer.
Best real video about fishing.....ive been watching you for at least 8 years. But the industry needs more anglers talking about the fundamentals of fishing not the cost. Thanks B. Martin O'Bryant Midwest Fishing & Outdoors
In my area we mostly have small shallow lakes so they fill completely up with weeds. The amount of vegetation and water temp are the biggest considerations I have when I try to figure out what to throw. There isn't many opportunities to bank fish since most of the land is privately owned. So a boat and trailer really open up the opportunities. I totally agree with the electronics issue. Maybe because the lakes by me are usually less than 50 acres and shallow. There aren't many places for them to hide and they are pretty easy to pattern
Great video! Thanks for keeping it real. It's easy to get lost in the fog of information on UA-cam and internet. I remember catching fish on a bucket with a cane pole😊
Crazy you doing the same thing as me. Im looking for trailer now. My 12’ plastic jon boat sun dolphine and next year got $300 1984 6 hp Evin Rude off Craigs List.Moved my 55 minn kota to the front. It was my main motor for 2 years. Have $653 saved for a trailer. $25 week from pay check I put on cash app. No depth finder yet. Slowly coming together. Thank you for being real. Where I connect with you. It’s reassuring and motivating to hear you have same story. blowed away you did the same. Thanks for the video. Much repect.
Great video so true just bought my first falcon bass boat because of you can't wait to get back to tournament fishing it's been years thx for your videos
Excellent video! Just like most things-fishing can be over complicated for sure….especially with all the “info” out there and products available. I think a major step I personally took was to limit what I brought out to focus on getting better at. I have a bunch of equipment and constantly carry the same in to the field with me-so my wife just nods her head when I show people “my fishing stuff” and she tells them, “he doesn’t even use that crap!” lol. Rock and roll this year B!!!!!
Man oh man you came through with an uppercut enjoy all your videos eventually soon I will pick up several of your blat rods to try. Thanks. Have a blessed day. Good luck this year.
Brian, Finley someone comes out and just says it like it is. Thank you for being honest because I feel the same way and don't use electronics and still have great days on the water all about reading the condition' s your faced with. Great Video!
Brian cannot begin to thank you enough for you being you ! Thanks for teaching us, as well as entertaining us.PLEASE once again, who makes and where can I get the 7‘3“ heavy ( everything rod) I looked under yours and I don’t seem to see it
I find cover and structure that I think a bass could be hanging around and I look for bait fish like bluegills or shiners in the areas that I plan on fishing around with those in mind it could be a couple bass hanging around in that area of the lake because of the bait fish and the cover which is usually grass or lily pads or a lay down or some kind of shade like a overhanging tree brach because it is providing shade for a bass to be hanging around on a hot day
It's true in a sense but regardless the time of the year dictates what fish are doing so yes certain lures and bait will perform better during certain times of year. Sure I can throw a chatterbait in January but there are better things to throw.
I fished a golf course twice a week for four years. Those fish acted exactly like fish in the lakes I fished. There was one pond that I always fished because it was on the way in. I fished it hard many many times. It sucked!! One day a front was coming and I kid you not, I was catching three pounders EVERY cast on a frog.
Good oh B-Lat. finally a real down to earth honest video about electronics. Thanks B. I love all the different ways of catching bass. And for the record if they figure out another new way. I’m all n on it to whatever it is.
Pond fished for years, finally was able to buy a 14 year old 19' Bayliner fish/ski boat that was set up like a bass boat with detachable ski tow. I bass fished with that boat for years, wore out the lakes. A $100 Hummingbird unit, old Minn Kota 12v TM, 1 spinning rod setup and 1 bait caster. Got my first new boat, 21' Carolina skiff DLX with Suzuki 115 for $14,200. I put so many striper, spanish mackrel, trout, red fish and sharks in that boat over 12 years, it was a blast. Finally stepped up to a 24' bay boat with Yamaha 300 a couple years ago. I had just as much fun on that skiff as I do the $140k bay boat.
Thanks for the information B-Lat! Always very informative! I wish you well in all your tournaments this summer! Great guy, great video! Keep these coming!
If wasn’t Deployed most of the Time I might have a Boat and Z Man Boxes lol this is a great video Brian and I’m ok with Fishing from the River Bank but Z Man Plastics are expensive and Mark Daniels Jr. is one of my favorite Guys to watch. Stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis
Great content! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and helping others like me! You’re always keeping it real…down to opening the boxes with a screwdriver. 😂
My first boat was a 10 foot aluminum and super narrow. I transported it on top of the roll bar of a Jeep. Once I got to the river I would take the battery off the Jeep to power my hand control trolling motor. I would park my Jeep facing down the boat ramp just in case I used up all battery power so I could jump my Jeep off by rolling down ramp. No BS!
As a kid my grandpa would introduce me to a new bait and have me use it every time we went fishing until he felt I had a good understanding of the versatility of that lure. He built my tackle box and skills one lure at a time.
🙌thank you for this video. We don’t need the best, the latest new fangle do dad. Or lots of money. The most fun I had was with my son from the shore or dock. Keep it simple and don’t forget the basics.

So true! I was catching bass in the Summer on jerkbaits before UA-cam told me it was a "winter time" bait.
Absolutely the top… best fishing video on UA-cam! Great job and thank you BLat!!! God bless you man!
Preach brother! You hit it out of the park with this one. So much fluff can be ignored when you have the basic fundamentals down.
I think you're the only pro fisherman that's honest !!!!!!!
Really enjoy your channel buddy. I get a lot from it and like your story. Thank u!
I enjoy your honesty, real talk dude...💯
Great video so true just bought my first falcon bass boat because of you can't wait to get back to tournament fishing it's been years thx for your videos
Excellent video! Just like most things-fishing can be over complicated for sure….especially with all the “info” out there and products available. I think a major step I personally took was to limit what I brought out to focus on getting better at. I have a bunch of equipment and constantly carry the same in to the field with me-so my wife just nods her head when I show people “my fishing stuff” and she tells them, “he doesn’t even use that crap!” lol. Rock and roll this year B!!!!!
I totally agree with you outside of winter , cold water just makes things a lot easier in terms of what’s going to work
Man oh man you came through with an uppercut enjoy all your videos eventually soon I will pick up several of your blat rods to try.
Thanks for teaching us, as well as entertaining us.PLEASE once again, who makes and where can I get the 7‘3“ heavy ( everything rod) I looked under yours and I don’t seem to see it
You bet! I appreciate the love and you being a part of my fishing circle.
I bought a Sick Stick 7' 2" MH and it is by far my go to rod for chatterbaits! I love favorite rods. That is all i have on the deck of my boat.
Love this video BLat!!! I’ve watched it several times. Way to keep it real!!!
Preach it B. Lat. I always use the same lures/baits year round. I still catch fish.
Thanks for this video B. You just moved up on my favorites list with this one. Best vid I’ve seen lately. Easily the best if 2024 so far.
Great video, Brian! This is what the people need to hear.
Thats true because i fish from the bank a 100% of the time and i still catch bass without Electronics
yes but maybe not abundantly as people 100 yards away form you on the water? i think a valid conversation point
All depends on access and that's achieved with a boat. That said I'm bank fishing 90 percent of the time.
Once again, you come out with solid truths!!! Why I love to click on your videos. you just tell it how it is!
Good oh B-Lat. finally a real down to earth honest video about electronics. Thanks B. I love all the different ways of catching bass. And for the record if they figure out another new way. I’m all n on it to whatever it is.
11:53 this is true, a lot of folks won’t mention that.
Thanks man. I needed this. Catching less fish trying to listen to the minthky baits. Go back old school and keep a jig tied on.
Thank you for just being truthful. Most pros just wanna tell you anything and push products on you.
Love your vids B Lat. Always for every fisherman and always about the nuts and bolts that make it fun and competitive
Thank you for keeping it real Brian you are a legit one!!!
You're certainly telling the truth. Continue Teaching.
Yes bro finally someone finally said something about it 😂 Appreciate the videos 💪🏽
Also I really enjoy your videos. You seem to be down to earth and do great job of teaching. I will be looking onto your school this year.
Great content! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and helping others like me! You’re always keeping it real…down to opening the boxes with a screwdriver. 😂
Great thoughts, Brother, love your channel!
Looks like Christmas already 😂 one of the best videos you’ve made!
Love your story B!!! 💪🏽💪🏽
Man Blat this was the video I needed to see 👊💯
I use a medium light, medium and medium heavy. Couldn't tell you what action any of them are but they work for me
I started fishin from the bank with my mother with a cane pole
Fell in love with it and wouldn’t change a thing
My first boat was a 10 foot aluminum and super narrow. I transported it on top of the roll bar of a Jeep. Once I got to the river I would take the battery off the Jeep to power my hand control trolling motor. I would park my Jeep facing down the boat ramp just in case I used up all battery power so I could jump my Jeep off by rolling down ramp. No BS!
Great idea for a video. I can so much relate to several things you said
As a kid my grandpa would introduce me to a new bait and have me use it every time we went fishing until he felt I had a good understanding of the versatility of that lure. He built my tackle box and skills one lure at a time.
I use to fish from a bass boat back around 2000 and it had great electronics. Never used them and hammered on the bass!
Best video I've seen in over a year boss!!
Great video. Refreshing take on a lot of topics.
🙌thank you for this video. We don’t need the best, the latest new fangle do dad. Or lots of money. The most fun I had was with my son from the shore or dock. Keep it simple and don’t forget the basics.
Thanks for keeping it real. Keep up the good work.
Bro I wish that just unboxing and organizing new tackle in boats was a job!
IT ACTUALLY IS MY JOB!!! Crazy right. I almost did a video today about that but I thought no one would care
Ohhhh Id watch that whole mess!!!!!!!!!!
