@@Cotton_Candy_Casting me too but I haven't had any luck using zman as trailer. But those to worms tho have been the deal for me. Try em. It's to bad all are lakes are frozen cabin fever is getting to me. Tight lines & no snags to ya.
Just caught this video and I am so grateful! I definitely know NOTHING about chatters. Your analogy on women vs men with colors CRACKED me up! I'm telling my spouse "The colors don't matter, until they MATTER, sir!"
Thanks B-Lat… I’ve got Asperger’s and get really obsessed over tackle. You’re videos always seem to give me permission to boil things down and keep it simple and just fish.
B. Latt thank you for sharing your tips with everyday anglers who want to learn. I appreciate the way you talk in a way that beginning anglers can understand.
We have been making fishing more complicated since ancient fishermen tied a feather to a bone hook with a chunk of meat. Your point is well taken. Fishing in the dark, requires a lot of water displacement from your lure so the fish can feel it. We fish brown trout at night with any big streamer that pushes through the water. Great video!!
I have a weird rule of thumb: Either match the hatch exactly (Storm LiveEye swim baits are gold) or throw something whacky like a Houston Legend spinner or a rainbow buzz bait. I haven't had much luck in between, but the "realistic" lures fool the picky ones, and the "goofy" lures slam the hungry ones.
9:32 fishing 101 here - never forget this for almost ALL techniques and situations. Can't tell you how many times slowing down has caught me a ton of fish. The irony being that ill be surrounded by people not catching, and I am catching over and over, so everyone speeds up thinking "man how is he getting so many fish so fast" and they get anxious and in a hurry. Slowwwwwwwwwww Downnnnnnnnnnnnn. When i fish a Jig, i spend about 2 full minutes on a single cast.
Thank you for sharing this video. As someone who cannot seem to catch a fish with a chatterbait, I thank you. This gives me good advice to hopefully catch my first chatterbait fish this season.
I’ve never rigged a paddle tail plastic like you did, with the tail pointing up toward the hook. I’ve seen so many rigged paddle tail swimbaits rigged tail down….I guess either way is effective! I also remember you telling us on a previous chatterbait instructional about taking the skirt off and just rigging a trailer on your chatterbait…that tip really worked well for me at one of my highly pressured lakes! 👍🏼

Okay Brain here it is I watched applied and caught a big one at a pond very cold 44 with wind. focused on controlled cast, a steady retrieve. Didn't care about trailer color just grabbed on and WOW Thanks
Excellent! Perfect timing, starting to stock up for the spring and wanted to try throwing chatterbaits more. Watched my son catch fish on them so you know I gotta try
I’ve had luck fishing Jackhammers like a “sometimes a jig” bait. 🤷♂️ Early in the spring I just let it fall near where I think they are (I am a bank angler). I just let it fall close to drain pipes and such. I imagine the bass coming over to investigate…then give it a pop up (3-6 vibration) and sometimes I get that bite.
What are your thoughts on the Jack Hammer vs all these other models? The vibration on the Jack Hammer is just too good to have any other option unless I want less vibration because the fish want a subtle vibrate.
Hahahaha I literally said oh man I like using a goat trailer, immediately before you said you don't get to use that 😂😂😂😂. Appreciate ya homie and good luck down here in Florida this weekend. Get emmmmmm💪💪💪💪
Great tips thanks BLat! I am thinking of using the chatter bait for fishing rivers for smallies especially during high water when the fish are scattered. I’m very interested in the MiniMax one for this application.
What about for blue gill imitations? That seems to be a primary target for bass in my area. Still use the green and just use a bluegill flash trailer? Thanks for the tips?
Hey Bro. I caught my first bass today on your recommendation in this video. Brown chatterbait wit brown/green swim trailer. 2.57lb large mouth. Wish I could share the photos in this post. Thanks for the info.
My buddy gave me one last year. It caught nothing but 3+ pounders when I threw it. I went to having zero confidence to having it on everytime I went out! Steady slow reel with random pops did the trick majority of the time
I was like what? Then I was like, this Ole boy may know what he's talking about! I will sub then when the bass bite I will start liking, you sir have the gift of gab!
Hey, Brian! I've never thrown a Chatterbait, but it seems like a mix of a spinner bait and a jig - more for poking the bottom and cover than waking near the surface. I usually just slow roll a spinner or pull out a swim bait with the bottom treble taken off (you only need the top hook, and it hangs up A LOT less), but I'm gonna have to pick up a couple chatter baits when I run to Bass Pro.
Just caught my first chatterbait fish on the og chatterbait. With a 4" bps swimbait as trailer. Yo yoing it. Got wrecked by a 6lber snd now I'm hooked. Cussed them for years. Wasnt fishing them rmright.
Got pretty comfortable throwing out a chatterbait last year, especially pre spawn. Why leave out the flat bodied trailers like the rage bug? When I’m fishing wood I don’t get hung up nearly as much with a rage bug on
Chatter bait and top water like a whopper plopper work all year round . Top water is so exciting getting that hit on a whopper plopper is unbelievable. I have caught every thing on that bait .
Yo will the zman plastic cook and melt your rubber skirt? Never mix my zman plastics with anything. They go back in their original bags. I caught my PB on a chatter bait so I feel like I know something about them….
The Crosseyes in that pond bug color has been a killer for me! I like how quickly the blade starts, and the cost is easier on the wallet. A great option if the jackhammer isn’t in your budget.
Project z chatterbaits kick off fast. Super fast. I fish braid though yo young 99 oercent of tine with a zako trailer. They srmtart up faster with braid and I'm only giving them short hops. Need the quick a tion. Moving so slow I'm not gonna take it away from them because I'm using no stretch braid. Fishing it moving fast I wouldn't run braid. But that's not my thing.
Everyons says use a slow reel but i dont run my reel like im beati g eggs. Always ran 7 speed reels and im used to the slow wind. I rel fast after im hooked up. Dont wanna race just to retrieve a lure. Whatever you are used to.

The difference between the color of my wife's makeup and the color of my bait is that my wife will always look good to me no matter what color she puts on but the fish might not want my bait!😉
For me it's all white or black and blue. What's your preference? Chatterbaits or spinnerbaits? I know you can throw them both in the same places mostly.
I haven't tried a chatter bait yet, but spinners are my all time go to lure - they always seem to work, and can be slow rolled near the bottom or burned and waked near the surface, and when fish bite, they choke em.

A couple things.
1. Have you associated speed with seasons? That’s not a good idea
2. Speed is relative to many things. Ex. Would be reel ratio, speed of the boat, depth of the water. If I’m fishing in 1ft of water I have to maintain a faster speed to keep the bait out of the muck. If my trolling motor is on 8 I have to maintain a faster retrieve than I do at 4 to keep the bait moving at the same pace.
