Thank you for this comparison. The BBP is the one. I play fingerstyle and the Yamaha sounds amazing. Probably sounds better with your fingers than mine, but at least I won't be able to blame the instrument. The Ray is out of its depth in this comparison.
Thanks! I made a song from it. ”Easy When it Snows” by Hollywood Road. It’s on Spotify. Not this exact riff though I simplified it, but there is slap at the end hehe…
That’s just how a passive PJ bass sounds tbh. They have the warmth of a jazz bass until you play harder/slap and then you really hear the differences in the dynamics. IMO PJ basses are best suited to use the P and J pickups individually. I think a Jazz bass does the 2 pickup thing better
@@kingdeedee yes I agree with you: a PJ bass will never sound like a J bass, so it can replace a P bass or a J bass with only the bridge pickup, but you can play the the best for slap (both single pickups) only with a J bass
Hey there. You have some of my favorite bass demos! Great groove and pocket! Thanks much! I’ve got a BBP34 on backorder but am considering the BBP35 as well. My hands are medium sized. Can you offer any insight since you’ve played both? Is the tone and resonance similar? To be used mainly in worship settings.
Man I’d kill for your right hand technique. I’m a pick player having come to bass from guitar, just not the same. I actually prefer the Fender of these 3. Seems a bit smoother and more focused. The Yamaha sounds nice and full though.
@@davidmhuey no. Only under very special conditions. And even then it’s fine, guitar players play single coils (with gain) all the time without anyone complaining hehe!
The SD pickup is meant to be wired in parallel and is supposed to be a faithful recreation of the 70s one. Looking back it would have been cool to have a push/pull pot for parallel/serial.
I don’t use an actual DI box here, what I meant that this is just the direct signal. I just recorded straight into the audio interface. I like amp sounds too but a lot of times I just record like that. There are a lot of good DI boxes and preamps for slightly different sounds but usually straight into the audio interface sounds good too! For home practice I use a small amp or interface with headphones like this.
@@dequiarro4417 Get yourself a SansAmp bass driver DI, and maybe another one just for some variation, I like Aguilar stuff too.. Man, I gotta say. This guy makes the best bass comparisons on teh internet, hands. down.
No bullshit, no annoying intros, no bald man talking absolute bogus for 7 minutes before getting to the point. Straight to sounds.
Nice, man. Just bought my friends BB 5 string. Love the balanced low sound without the twang
Yamaha BP35!!!!
The Yamaha is probably the best made instrument, but Fender has the sound I love.
Thank you for this comparison. The BBP is the one. I play fingerstyle and the Yamaha sounds amazing. Probably sounds better with your fingers than mine, but at least I won't be able to blame the instrument.
The Ray is out of its depth in this comparison.
The Fender just has that unique sound that makes it a Fender
and the "Stingray" Ray4 has the unique and iconic sound that makes it a Music Man...
@@luigi.zanini and the Yamaha has that unique BB sound that makes it a Yamaha.
Insummary have the three bases is the best choice jeje. They are different.s PJ for Yamaha, Jazz bass for fender, hambuker for stingray.
Very nice playing and demo, thank you!
Yamaha for the win.
My stank face when you slapped the bbp35
Comment of the year🏆
BB wins
Proof that it ain't the bass, it's the player
Good vintage musicman vibe with the upgraded Ray4
I think so too!
is it wired series or parallel?
@@fokacsbass parallel
Was it wired parallel when it was stock?
@@horrorshowbass no, that's why it doesn't have the real stingray sound. But fortunately it takes about 5 minutes to make it wired parallel
Great vidéo.
Love the fender tone
The bbp has more power and great tone too and the Yamaha has great playability
They all sound good!
such a good riff

@@hampuslundgren7300 I will check that out for sure!
I’d have to say the Yamaha stood out finger style. Fender for the slap
I would take BB and Fender
Brooooo it's wonderful!!
I own both the fender and a MM...even though the yamaha sounds nice...i still have to go with the tried and true Fender
Awesome super cool
That Jazzbass tone :))
in finger mode Yamaha sounds like Fender but when he switches to slap Yamaha is NOT at the same level with Fender (and Sterling)

@@edwardshields2777 they are very similar. String spacing is closer as usual on five string basses.
Thanks!
hard to believe that's a sterling by musicman ray4! sounds like the US

Can I ask which strings (and gauges) you are using on your Ray and your Jazz Bass?
Ernie ball slinky 45-105
@@hampuslundgren7300 What strings on the BB? Thanks.

Hey there. Question about the Yamaha. Do you get a lot of hum even when both pick ups are on?
@@davidmhuey no. Only under very special conditions. And even then it’s fine, guitar players play single coils (with gain) all the time without anyone complaining hehe!
Question! For the AM pro was there a specific reason you chose maple as opposed to rosewood fretboard?
Yes, it looks cooler!
on the ray4 did you change the humbucker wiring configuration from stock (series) to parallel or did you maintain the stock (series) configuration?
The SD pickup is meant to be wired in parallel and is supposed to be a faithful recreation of the 70s one. Looking back it would have been cool to have a push/pull pot for parallel/serial.
I wanted to hear a P.
Cool, I never get that tone so lively, which amp did you use? (Mine is Warwick BC-40)
This is just the DI signal, so straight into sound card and some compression (about -5db) in Logic x. No amp sound.

Yamaha , Fender more than 1 k un price , ray 4 less than 500..... Not fair
Fender jazz and music man
