This was the best game for me as a kid. All I remember was starting out in the city and just continuing to drive straight and trying my best to jump the bridge lol
The police was absolutely ruthless in this game, BUT, after a while you did learn some tricks on how to maneuver through traffic (switch lanes just before the cop behind you reaches a car, etc) to quickly lose 'em. Still, GTA chaces didn't even come close to the intensity and difficulty level of those in Driver 1 / 2.
It was freaking windows 98, and we pressed all existing buttons on the keyboard but it never even start to move, I think we had to redefine control but I was 6 and I didn't even realize what the heck PC is, that's my story
I can't belive the stuff this game has that many games with cars don't even today. Hud caps that pop off from to hard of a turn, breakable signs some games are still static. A lot of games barely have car damage. This game shows a lot of car damage physics. It's amazing the amount of work that gets put into games back then compared to now.
Specops Armageddon yeah I threw gran turismo in the garbage once I found out the cars don’t have steel rims using hub caps that fly off. Oh wait, no I didn’t?
First car game I ever played (born in 96) & still love it today. Our disc was corrupt though so we could only do the training & Take a Ride in San Fran & Miami after a while. buying a new one though! Inspired my interest in cars & still mad about them today. Loved all the damage features, the sounds of the car.. ah memories!
also born in 93 and I played it when it first came out. uncle had a Playstation and this was the first game I ever played on it. always had to have him or my mom beat the tutorial. after a couple years I could do it on my own once they told me hit x and o at the start and then when you stop square and triangle. right off the bat knock out 4.
PyramidHead138 haahahha yeah, i got so frustrated that i couldn't make it out of the first stage, but now i can do it pretty quick & it's a stage i enjoy... but the last stage? even using the full health cheat it was near impossible
One thing I liked was swerving through traffic in the hopes that the pursuing cops would hit into them, and then hearing the car "dying" (when the siren winds down).
Anyone else one of them late 90’s kids who we’re too young to understand this at the time, just put it on and played for hours, the nostalgia this brings is unreal. It looked like a different world back then, I remember that load screen and map like it was yesterday.. the graphics differences compared to kids on gta 5 these days is crazy... Born in 98’, this, vice city, spyro, mortal kombat and San Andreas were my childhood
Strange how a simple still image or a sound effect can instantly put you into a time machine and send you back 20 years. The last time I saw the opening credits and heard the sound FX of the crashes, I was having the raddest times with my best friend. FFWD to today, and he is no longer around. Man, this hit me way too hard.
Bought this as soon as it came out lol. I was underage but the guy sold it to me at the shop. I was so happy to get Driver on PS1. £39.99 and all saved just for this game. I have never been exited for a game as for Driver. Great memories and Driver 2 kept that alive.
I still got my PS1 and the copy of this game, 1998... I was 12 and I enjoyed this game too much, freeroaming through the city... Guess here was where my love to open world games started ❤️
I remember playing this when I was about 6, couldn't get out of the parking garage, dismissed every driver game since, became a beast at ridge racer though lol
remember i never owned a memory card the time i played this and i used to replay the first part of the game all the time, i was probably 5 - 6 years old, I'm 23 now
Music of the first mission still makes me shiver. What a majestic game. Awesome story, awesome free roaming mode, awesome music, and great graphics and gameplay. A masterpiece. Police chasing were so intense and had a lot of thrill. Spent countless hours on this game in those days. Who missed the late 90s missed the greatest era of videogames
Nostalgia at its finest. I remember my dad renting this from Blockbuster and us playing it all weekend. He never returned it cause we played it so much. I loved all these growing up
choo choo here comes the memorie train . loved this game did anyone elce play resident evul for ps1 now that does bring baxk memories ( and nightmares lol )
Really enjoyed this and the follow up: Back on the streets. After the second game they never made another that made you feel like a cartheif. Best part of Driver must have been Carnage.
This is pure nostalgie!! I played this game every night with my dad before I go to bed. Sometimes I just drove around and imagined how I will drive in the future when I get my license 😊 stopped at every stop sign and parked the car in a parking lot.... That was fun. The time flies. I played this game when I was maybe 9, this was for 16 years... It's so funny but sad at the same time. Thanks for sharing this video 😊
I have been searching for this game for years! I had a picture in my head how it lookede but I couldn't realize which game it was. Now I have finally found it, tears in my eyes.
There's too much emphasis on realistic graphics these days. But there's no substitute for good ol' game play though. This had it in bucket loads, although those cops could be a nightmare at times - especially later on in the game haha.
Yea i remember that game.. And the first Getaway released back in 2002.. I still got both of those game till this day in next to new condition, hoping they'll be worth a lot decades to come lol
Uno de mis juegos favoritos de PLAY Station.. Todos los de Driver, me la pasaba horas jugando estos juegos, al igual los de Tom Raider... De lo mejor de los Juegos
my very first console was the ps1 and driver was my first game, i loved the desert and i still love the game, even now in 2018, i was 6 when i first played it, now i am 24 i still looooove this game !!!!!
This was the very first game I've played on console at a friend's house. I remember going there every day with other friends, this game was so addicting lol. Oh man the memories!
That moment you want to hit those pedestrians ahaha but the game won't let that happened because they knew kids back then would play and love it like I do. Good all memories especially making movie replay. I spent alot of time making the best replay ahaha

Fabisch Factor let's honest half us never got past that
I remember the graphics to this game were so damn good when I was younger. That car look so damn sweet!
What are your thoughts now?
@ExonNow
Looks worse than crap.
And the sound of the engine!!
I always thought of the Same thing when I look back. I used to think why ain't the gameplay graphics like this lol
@@shifty2755 still looks good tbh.
Police chases have never felt as aggressive and exciting in any Driver/GTA since this classic. Like playing through a 70's action movie

Nathan Pelka fuck yes! There are lots of times I would like to see that done to
I dont know if they made a remaster
i know they should. like sane thing but 4k HD

GTA already exists.
Probably just 90's babies on this video
We are old as fuck now :(
Probably you are an 80's oldi
No man I was born 2001 and played this all the time the game came out in 99. That isn't that long ago
I'm doing a college paper on this game so I have an excuse to get my ps1 out and play this game .
I played this has a 16 years old teenager
Seriously impressive greaphics for a ps1 game. this is basically 3D GTA on ps1. Before rockstar did it with GTA3 on ps2.
init man that's the truth
+ILoveMyAnus Driver 2 is the first 3D GTA.
when developing GTA3, they actually used this game as a model for a lot of the gameplay and physics.
yeah!!!

Repping 96 we always out here
The cut scenes were revolutionary for it's time and the game play physics still have me playing Driver to this day.
The most memorable part of this game will always be the hub cap flying off going around a corner.
what a game! who would think that 17 years passed away...fucking time!
This brings back memories! The hub caps that came loose was so awesome .The whole game was!
i wish gta had those driving physics.
I HATED the training part; I crashed so many times I nearly gave up

Gamer Guy82 in the last mission its like the whole cities after you!
Agreed. I even pointed it out in my own review of this game.
+PyramidHead138 I NEVER got through that..... I gave up lol
The amount of detail for those times blew my mind....for example ..when you lose you're rims going over bumps😍
the first mission made this game legendary
