I hear you. I wasn't able to beat it as a kid, but started playing it again when I turned 20 and was able to then. I just turned 30 and tried the game again a couple weeks ago for old times sake, and it's still tough as fuck

I did when I was 10 on that box console with that 8 bit glitching processor which would suddenly slow down if too much graphic input is required, and those hard samurai controller button which would give you painful fingers for a week. Even kicked and threw that box console when I couldn’t beat the level and lost all lives without save function. 🤪

This game was so creative for its time. The change in perspective from side scroller in one level to behind the back third person in another. The change to verticality in some levels.
This made me realize that I'm so fucking OLD. I loved this game as a kid. Now 37 and iam still gaming hard. There is no age limit i still feel so childish 😂😂

Doing this really isn't that hard. You just need to memorize each level and hone your skills a bit. I beat contra back to back for 5-6 loops starting with 2 lives.

This game is more than a decade older than me but I was lucky my mom bought me one of those nes console copies when I asked her for a xbox, I remember I was angry at first but I was able to have a lot of fun playing many of these nes classics: Mario, Contra, Tetrix, Excite Bike, Elevator, Tank 1954, Duck Hunt (I had that crazy gun too!) and many others.
I still have that console and play it sometimes out of nostalgy, my fingers end up hurting like crazy though XD

I never had a contra game in my life. I play it in some of my friends places though. But now I have about over a dozen. Different versions. And Peobotectors. The contra games of EU.
Even though I wasn’t born in the 80s or 90s, old games like these have always been my favorite, especially the gameplay and music.
Because old games were art and a lot of modern games are mostly milkings.
