Save the thin foam sheets you get in TV boxes, you can cut strips off of it as needed to fill gaps. Then caulk over it.
Put cut to ceiling.
Jee-us buddy! You're making things way toooo complicated. Just shoot some expandable foam in there. Trim it and use Platinum Patch to fill over it. Sand and paint. Mask the crown off 1st with Frog tape and 12" paper.
