    How To Tie Spoon On Fishing Line
    Spoons are one of the easiest lures to fish but I often see people tie spoons on fishing line in the worst way possible. I will show you how I rig both large and small spoons so they are ready to go with the least amount of rigging.

    Excellent tips, will definitely use. Now to educate myself on how to fish with each spoon etc. I mean, I catch great freshwater fish here in Michigan, from shore, but I'd like to be catching more often while I'm out .

    I switch all my trebles to straight inline hooks on every lure I buy. I abhor treble hooks unless I'm going after small bait fish. I love using spoons at jetties and the surf in Galveston. Fish love em.

    Once the split ring is started, put the spoon on it next to the swivel. One turn of the ring puts both on at once.

    if i have the swivel attach between my braid and fluoro carbon leader do i still need to attach a swiwel to my spoon?

    • @WMBayouLures
      @WMBayouLures  Рік тому +4

      I usually do. I think it lets the spoon have a little more action because you have jut a little less resistance. The spoon is not having to fight against your flouro, it will have to twist the flouro enough to engage the swivel at the end of your leader. I think it is a small difference but really lets the spoon do what it wants to do.

    I too use swivels and get rid of the cheap hooks and split rings especially in saltwater but I think VMC make some of the sharpest hooks for the dollar! I also like using mylar tails in pink, white and chartreuse depending on the spoon finish? But the only spoon I don't waste my time with swivels are the Johnson Silver Minnow Spoons because of the two different metals used to make the Minnows the heavier metal in the middle and the thinner sides the spoon doesn't roll over unless your cracking it to fast? Which is exactly what don't what to do! Especially if you find the older spoons made in the 30's- 60’s!! But I do put swivels on the Johnson Sprite Spoons! And if your able to find the older Daredevils that were still made in Detroit they don't rollover but wobble in wide side to side! A Great saltwater or freshwater spoon that was made in the gulf Coast area are the Triple Chance Spoon made in 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 ozs but in any size! They are a Minnow shape with 3 different attachment locations S, M & D I've never seen a spoon that moves through the different water columns like it does! From shallow gliding and stop & go and yet being heavier one side they are able to flutter down to different depths like a dying shad! You need a swivel on a adjustable split ring like they use on crankbaits were you pinch it and it opens up to adjust the depth setting or swap out a spoon! It can be a pain! But the three largest spotted trout I've ever caught was on a slacked tide and on a stiff 6-6 casting rod & reel & 20lb line, casting the triple chance spoon until it hit the bottom of the 20' cut I was fishing and reeling up the slack line until I could feel spoon and then rip it off the bottom and let flutter back down on a tight line and the minute I saw slack line or no longer felt the weight of the spoon I would set hook and reel hard and in a 1/2 hour I caught 2, 5 pounders & a 6 lbs probably could've used any spoon but those triple chance spoons cast a mile no matter what weight and the minnow shape castabilty while wanting in the Flats make a great spoon the same with b old Johnson Silver Minnow! Only the old timers know how versatile spoons are and if I had only choice! It would be a Silver Spoon! TMI CMTFU

    • @WMBayouLures
      @WMBayouLures  Рік тому

      Depends on where I am fishing. Open beach with no structure I will tie straight to braid, if I am dealing with rocks etc I will tie on some mono or flouro leader then connect to braid with a uni-to-uni.

    I just got a clue on when and why you might not want to use a swivel when fishing a deep hole. Drop spoon directly down to depth of fish showing. Raising spoon up and down about 20 to 25 times then hold spoon and rod steady and let the line spin the spoon at stationary level waiting on fish to strike.

    • @WMBayouLures
      @WMBayouLures  6 місяців тому

      Interesting technique, never tried that but sounds like a good way to get a ton of line twist even if it works. When you reel up the spoon is going to twist the line. Not the end of the world but something to think about.

      To avoid line twist, which leads to backlash or massive tangles in spinning gear you should run swivels with spoons.

    Ok I’m real new to fishing, only days in actually and I’ve been doing heaps of research but I keep getting mixed information on swivels on spoons, I’ve read they aren’t supposed to spin at all and swivels shouldn’t be used, then I’ve also read that you should put swivels on, can somebody help me please? Also I’m planing on using spoons in fresh water so is a different set up required as their isn’t as much waves or current in fresh water? Soz if it a dumb question I wouldn’t know I’m just real confused
