The 6159 is my grail watch but due to the rarity I ended up buying the SLA025 and I’m happy I did. The looks of old but can actually wear it everyday without worry.
Beautiful watch and a great review with lots of good info. I have a lovely 6217 - 8001 which I purchased during my Aussie Army service in Malaysia in 1967. I wore it for 10 years and then upgraded to an all-bells-and-whistles Citizen and the 6217 lay undisturbed in storage until about a month ago. Rummaging through some of my storage crates, I found the 6217. I picked it up, gave it a little twist and away it went. It has been my everyday watch since then and still keeps very accurate time. It had a replacement metal band on, which had replaced the original rubber tropic band which had split when I was wearing it earlier on. I was lucky enough to source an old new stock rubber band from the USA and have had that fitted. Overall the 6217 is in terrific condition with some small scratches on the acrylic dome crystal and just a couple of minor dings on the case. The caseback is almost mint. The only problem is the bezel which is fused (possibly with rust) and immovable. The watch will be in for its first ever service later today. I will request that apart from the work on the bezel and the standard service, nothing be replaced unless necessary, particularly externally. I am a very happy camper.
Very interesting story! Thanks for sharing! And do you have the old strap with the buckle laying around by any chance? I would be very interested in that for my 6217.
Wonderful watch and review. That really looks like a domed sapphire crystal with blue AR though and not a hardlex. I think the crystal has been replaced.
lovely very expensive now. to me the bargains of the vintage seiko divers is the boys / ladies 2205's. small 33mm I know but rare, hi beat and for now still affordable. cheers
Yeah the 6159s are getting out of reach for most of us average Seiko fans now. I agree that the 2205s are great watches and available at bargain prices. I managed to pick up a 69 example in very good condition on its original waffle strap for about $200US on EBay recently. A great little watch.
I know this video is old but I had to SALUTE to this ICON 6159. If SEIKO Only made this watch with exact diminutive dimensions it would be a top seller. The modern iterations of MM300 are too HUGE
Very very cool. But I'm thinking the dial has work done on it and either the bezel has been changed or cleaned as well so the value would be questionable. Damn it's nice tho.
My god. That is absolutely gorgeous. Prettier than the Sub in my opinion.
I think the same way as you do. You are 100% correct.
Great review! Thank you, that was quite a treat seeing it in details and your comparison to the sub. Seiko was truly ahead of the time.

Hi Fredy. Thanks for the kind words
Great video! And great watch! It looks almost unworn.
Great videos showing the 6159. Thanks!

just wondering if the bezel insert acts as a 60min counter down timer?
I didn't get the name of the strap company.
Zapnes
It's a seller called "wjean" on eBay.
First mark on the right is 50? Is the bezel wrong?
Jeremy Ouyang I have seen models with that type of bezel but don't know why
Jeremy Ouyang It's a countdown bezel, the correct way to dive imo
Reissue is coming guys! SLA025 limited edition
How much did you buy it for
Did anyone noticed there is something wrong with the bezel insert? XD
