What are some obscure games you never hear anyone talk about?
Singularity, the weirdest FPS that comes to mind here and there.
From software has an interesting series called Echo Night that's weird and cool. The Famicom Detective duology recently released in English for the first time officially and they're neat. Oh, and the Itadaki Street series is another weird series that only got one game here. It would be cool to see some obscure games get videos sometime!
flOw is one that comes to mind. Flower and Journey are thatgamecompany's more well known games (and for good reasons), but I feel flOw doesn't get talked about that often
Silhouette Mirage! One of my favorite platformers
TAMA: Adventurous Ball In Giddy Labyrinth. The visuals and soundtrack create such an otherworldly vibe in a similar but different way to this game. btw, i also found this game through that same ps1 mix just earlier today, and your video helped me understand how to play this beautiful game, so thanks!
Fun fact about this games cover/title screen art. The painter, Hiroshi Nagai, gained his notoriety mainly through making city-pop album covers in the 80s. If you liked the style of the games art he has a ton of super vibey paintings
So apparently there was a contest where you could win a signed print of this game's art signed by Hiroshi, but I think only 20-25 of them were ever given out
This is my white whale. I need to track one down
NOTAM is an acronym which stands for Notice to Airmen, which “NOTAM of the Wind” is a fitting title name considering there can be NOTAMs for high winds. Also for obscure games, Artdink Also had a hand in the first two games of the Fossil Fighters series.
Finally someone understood ARTDINK as studio.
Great review!
Thank you kindly! A buddy and I might be trying to tackle more from Artdink at some point in the future as well...
Triangle Strategy really boosted their fame recently
Game sounds simple but extremely well thought out.
It's one of those things that doesn't sound like it should be a good time, but it can surprise you with how well it can deliver on a simple concept, if only for a while
@@Wayneisboss Its also a very relaxing video
Based on the cover i would never has expected it to be about hot air balloons but i will definitely give that OST a listen so you sold me on that at least
The music slaps harder than Will Smith
@@Wayneisboss listening to one of the tracks now and it has no right vibin this good.
But the cover has Hot air balloons!
This game is the embodiment of “Lo-fi beats to study to”
I think I'm gonna check this out. You really sold me on this. The entire PS1/Saturn era might be my favorite in terms of athsetics and this just looks lovely. Thanks for sharing this!
Same
The OST is amazing, especially track six called Solitude
Used to listen exclusively to this game's OST when doing homework back in 2017
Man I love Hitoshi’s Art sooo much!!! I wouldn’t expect it on a ps1 case but I LOVE IT!!!
Another great dive into a specialty game. Appreciate the hustle, Wayne.
Wayne, thank you for this chill video. I'll take up your recommendation of the game's OST and, as always, I'm looking forward to your next video.
Thanks for watching! It's always a bit of a gamble to do the smaller scale vids like this for an obscure title, but it's something I'll always want to keep doing!
The box art would draw me in to try this. Love that vibe.
Wayne, this video turned out so good, man! I love obscure and atmospheric stuff like this. Especially in early 3D titles. The graphics let your mind fill in the details and the soundtrack, which I looked up, is so cozy. And thanks for giving resources for bypassing region locking! That's so helpful! I'd love to see more gems like this in videos when you have ones to talk about.
Bro... I need to play this now LOL
Looks chill affffffffff
It's a weirdly relaxing game, even the soundtrack alone is just a therapeutic escape
I'm happy I could help you play Notam natively on your hardware!
Importantly if it wasn't for the PS Homebrew scene finding & discovering these exploits, producing game dev software etc..tools like UniRom & TonyHax wouldn't exist.
Really appreciate the help, man! This is one of my go-to chill games now, and it's hard to beat playing it on original hardware
Oh goddamn it i was out on walk when this released. Also yeah i believe low poly graphics are its own art form with its own charm like how pixel art is seen as nowadays.
It's an underappreciated visual style, and part of the reason I'm always happy to come back to the PS1 platform
Man I really did not expect such chillness and motslgia from this review but now I'm feeling weirdly both happy and sad because of it
This is certainly the kind of video I miss doing, a strange and obscure piece of history that may not offer a traditional experience, but a worthwhile one nonetheless
Definitely discovered this game through the same playlist as you.
Thanks for explaining the game types. I think I'll give this another go.
Thank you for introducing me to this game and especially its ost, really enjoyed what I've heard from the ost so far. Also would definitely like to see more video's on smaller, more obscure games from you in the future,Great video as always.
It's something I would really like to do more in the future! These are really fun videos to make, so if people are willing to watch, I'd be more than happy to make more in the future!
Fantastic video man, keep up the great work!
This game looks sick I wish blimps were real
Maybe one day 😤
Man, I really was wondering what the "weird" video would be. I'm not disappointed. A relaxing and obscure game of one of the most interesting systems out there that feels like a lazy but nice day at summer. It's a hard to explain feeling, but now I really wanna play this game now
And yeah, low-poly ps1 style graphics have it's own charm and are really unique. Maybe in a future we'll have them in a similar place we have pixel art today, and maybe even later people will feel nostalgic for ps2 era graphics
I've seen a few projects that have tried to capture that style and tone, so who knows! It could pick up in popularity!
@@Wayneisboss I hope. I've seen a few myself, like the haunted ps1 collection as a whole, and a colorful platformer I don't remember the name of. I hope it gets explored more!
I had no idea what i was expecting, but it wasn't Hot Air Balloon and the Forgotten Land
This OST is such a beautiful vibeeee
The music in this game is really great.
It's one of the best parts of the package, it helps elevate the tone of the game by no small degree
Good video! Looks like a really interesting game!
thought this was a bransfield vid from the thumbnail, pleasantly surprised to see it is by my boy Wayne. ginky vid bro 😎
Haha the thumbnail was hard to figure out, I was trying to find a way to make the content seem appealing without giving away what the game was really about
I don't know how or why I got this video recommended to me, but I'm glad I found it because Notam of Wind looks like it's right up my alley!
Well I'm glad you found your way here! And to think, I was actually worried that nobody would watch this one lol
@@Wayneisboss Well I think the title and thumbnail really worked in the video's favor! Otherwise I probably wouldn't have checked it out less likely
You mention that the soundtrack is like vaporwave before the genres inception; in the community we call that Proto-Vaporwave. Similar stuff would be Haroumi Hosano, Software - Digital Dance or DJ Screw :)
Nice PSOne. I had one a while back. It had a Pelican screen and battery pack. I had it in my backpack and would take it to work to play it on my break. Back then you had a 30 minutes. It went by quick. lol
Oh I believe it! Portable power has really come a long way but it's hard not to appreciate how innovative this stuff was for its time!
Nick had to tell me I was in here and I gotta say. Gottem
Appreciate your help haha Such a simple solution to my issue but I wouldn't have thought of it myself
FYI the games soundtrack is on Spotify, "Solitude" is by far the best song on the soundtrack
Yeah I think the ost got picked up for wider distribution a little while after I made this video. They even released a vinyl and I was able to get my hands on it :)
@@Wayneisboss didn’t think you would reply after a year lmao! had no idea they made a vinyl, gonna have to look into that
The graphics of this game definitely remind me of Artdink's Tail of The Sun
Marathon timeeeee
You should review the guardian's of the Galaxy game I know you don't review superhero games anymore but I would for you to make exception with this game
Certainly not off the table! I'm still planning on doing superhero game reviews, I just needed a break from them for a while. I was gonna do a simple small video about Guardians but I ended up deciding it deserved a more dedicated review at some point in the future
Luxuriate. New word for the toolbox.
oh man, where did you get that shirt?
also awesome video!!
Lol my roommate found it on Redbubble I think and bought it for me for Christmas last year! And thanks so much! I really gotta try to do more videos like this in the future
@@Wayneisboss Awesome! I was actually thinking about how I really wanted the game's cover art as a t-shirt or a sweater or something earlier today, just before I watched your video. I'm totally gonna try to get one for myself after Christmas!
Executioner told me about this channel
I appreciate you taking the time to check it out! Always trying to improve my craft, hopefully I can keep y'all entertained along the way
The only way I can describe that game is...nice.
Vaporwave!
Ironic. I found this video because of the soundtrack
