  • Hello,
In this video I shall share with you my D.I.Y. attempt at repairing the soft top window of my Audi TT 8n cabriolet convertible. The cabrio soft top itself was in good condition and color-matched to the car, but the initial glass window was long gone and a previous owner attempted to fix it by gluing a plastic sheet in place. By the time I got the car the plastic was brittle and almost gone, therefore I decided to came up with a novel way of approaching this problem: instead of gluing or stitching/sewing (which I am very bad at) a replacement "something" I decided to fix it with mechanical fasteners (pop rivets in this case) by sandwiching in place a clear plexiglass sheet between two custom metal frames, painted to match the color of the car. You can see in the video if that was a good idea, but overall I am pleased and hopefully my attempt will inspire others to replicate this and do it even better!
P.S.: I did not use a gasket between the plexiglass and the metal frames in the video because I considered the rubberized canvas of the soft top to act like a gasket.
