- Using some fantastic 3M glue I show you how to reinstall and set your window in a Mini Cooper. The same procedure should work for various convertibles. (Part 2 is at • MiniCooper Convertible... )
I use this seven years ago on an old BMW and as luck would have it now I’m using the same technique on a Mini Cooper. Excellent advice then, excellent advice now. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for the video. You sound like Peter Graves of The Mission Impossible tv show.
It works like a charm! Fixed my 2006 Beetle. Solid repair!
How long it worked ?
Clamps are used backwards: the larger piece of plastic better distributes clamping pressure over a Larger area so they should be pressing down on fabric.
So it's about 1 year later... how did the repair hold up ?
I did this method like 2 years ago. Its holding well however, today some small section came off. Most of it is holding well still though.
To anyone in California, we can't get the primer here. It's illegal to be shipped to California. I tried buying it from several sites and it wasn't until I went to my local O'Reilly's they told me it was unavailable in California. I simply had it shipped to my friend in Oregon and had him ship it to me. Going to be trying this very soon on my 99 Miata.
I guess it depends on who you buy it from. I bought a bottle from one seller and the post office kept it, so I'll be filing a claim to get my money from them. I bought another bottle from another seller and now have it and have used it.
hey there man how did it end up working? im trying to fix my 02 nb2 with this method as the whole glass came off of mines
@@KojiWoji_ it’s a very messy process. Make sure you wear gloves, the stuff took days to come off my hands a I would even mask off areas you don’t want the glue so that you don’t get black smudges on your window. If you can afford the suction clamps, do it. I used heavy duty magnets, which work well, but the glue gets on the magnets and it’s not fun.
I also recommend doing it with the top clamped shut. I did it open as recommended, but when I went to clamp it closed I could hear it stretching in places I probably glued too tight.
Sounds like I’m just a messy guy but I really tried to be neat, just needed more preparation.
Because of all my issues I only completed 75% of the piece that was falling off. I was planning to finish it the next day, and didn’t get back to it. Glues dried up and I haven’t had the chance to re-order.
It lasted about 6 months of constant top going up and down, and slowly it started splitting from the opening I didn’t glue.
It’s over a year later and certain parts are still holding up. I’m going to try again and finish 100% of it. I think if I take my own advise into consideration it should hold firmly for long enough to make it worth it.
New tops after installation fees can be over 1k if not more with the way things are going, so $100 on glues and clamps is a good deal.
Dude! Use a wind screen on the microphone!
that's what exactly happen to my car too...
Hi good job
Please let me know where you got that blue suction presser do they have a particular name and brand?
Appreciated
Alex
Amazon or eBay. They're called Sealey.
Where can I buy clamps
How did it turn out? Im looking to do this on my VW convertible
mercedes asb did you end up dping it with your vw? Thank you.
Where can I buy Targit? What is it?a glue or whatelse?First Targit then 3M single step primer....
Scott - How did your reglue hold up? I am needing to try it and wondered if it stayed in place even when you operate the convertible roof. I have had several roof repair places tell me it won't work and I need a new rag top.
They tell you that because they want to make money off you. A new top will just have the same glue you already have...that's come unglued. Some Windo-Weld and Primer are reportedly several times stronger, and they're not making money off you.
I’ve tried goop twice and this Texas heat crumbles it 😢
Need to $pend the $crilla’ for the right 3M stuff (if by “goop” you mean the brand name stuff “goop”). 3M set (2023) $80 (set means Primer and Adhesive)
What is the name of those clamps Scott? Great job!
The blue suction cup clamps were relatively hard to find. I found on Amazon via a UK supplier as the video notes. Go to Amazon and search: Sealey Suction Clamp Set 6Pc
My life currently!!!
What does the primer do and what is a dobbed
The primer asures a good bond between the adhesive, the glass and canvas.
A dauber is a means to spread the primer.
Hello,
How to use the 3M Primer, apply onlye the primer o the windows and top, wait a few hours ? How many ? 12 hours ? Then, apply the 3M glue ? Thanks
The 3M primer dries in less than 10 minutes in this tropical heat. After it dries, go ahead with the 3M Window Weld
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE CLAMPS ON EBAY?

"Probably take half an hour" . You repeated yourself 3 times. Not bad for a rookie though. Fairly detailed and descriptive. Pillows? From planes, trains & automobiles. Funny. Where your hands? Lol. Thanks Do you need the clamps if you have enough pillows? Mine is only released from the bottom. 2007 Solara. Dow makes a glass adhesive doesnt need the primer. Built in. 16.50 on ebay. UV is only working where the adhesive is exposed. Direct sun or uv exposure doesnt happen if you apply it correctly. Why pay 20.oo for the little bottle of uv protective when dow has it mixed into there product.
Geez replace that POS top already.
