T Bone Burnette Was mainly responsible for the arrangements and Ricky Fatar wrote a lot of the tunes.Eric Idle wrote most of the words..Burnette has always been a huge Beatles fanboy (like so many of us)
I'm a little surprised to find out that Paul was "frosty" towards Eric due to The Rutles. John must have loved it, and George was even in the movie. There's no foul intention here. Eric Idle is a HUGE Beatles fan and yeah, it's satire, but this was made out of the utmost adoration, not contempt.
I think Paul was frosty because the Rutles songs were so closely lifted from the Beatles ("Get Up and Go" vs. "Get Back" for example). There was a lawsuit at the time of the original movie's release for song royalties.
WILLIAM TELL Neil Innes was warned by John Lennon that Get Up And Go came to close to Get Back and therefor the song was left of the first Rutles album. The lawsuit over royalties you refer to was over the song Piggy In The Middle, that came to close to I'm The Walrus.
forkhead Absolutely no foul intention ! And it was a mutual admiration as well, since George Harisson was a huge fan of the Monty Python, became friends with Eric Idle and even formed his own production and distribution company "Handmade Films" to finance The Life of Brian.
I bought the 8 track when it was released in 1978. Actually the music of the Rutles was IMHO way better than a lot of the crap in pop music in the 70s.
When I used to watch the Beatles on screen, I only ever watched John. And wouldn't you know it , when I watch the Rutles, I only have eyes for Ron Nasty( Neil).
Lyrics: I feel good, I feel bad I feel happy, I feel sad Am I in love? I must be in love I feel rich, I feel poor I'm in doubt, I feel sure Am I in love? I must be in love Anytime of the day I can see Her face when I close my eyes She's a dream, she is real Can't explain, how I feel Am I in love? I must be in love Anytime of the day I can see Her face when I close my eyes Am I dead or alive? Can my poor heart survive? Am I in love? I must be in love I feel good, I feel bad I feel happy, I feel sad Am I in love? I must be in love I must be in love I must be in love I must be in love
Nobody ever mentions George Best , who was the original drummer before Barry Wom. He was booted out for being too good looking!! He went on to play football for Everpool FC.
That's right, and apparently John also said that "Get up and Go!" was too close to "Get Back!" and Innes better watch himself or Paul might just sue him. I'm sure John was being a bit facetious about that as he was wont to do, but that may be the source of the suit rumor. In "All you Need is Cash" there is a scene where the "boring" narrator details how all The Rutles sued each other, and Stig even accidentally sued himself! LOL!!!!
I first noticed The Rutles on Saturday Night Live. I must've cocked my head like Nipper the dog looking at that Victrola trying to figure out what was happening.
Innes was a rarity in that, not only could he compose, read, write and play music, he also had the looks and the personality to be a performer. The Beatles had all of their music written for them by the likes of Theodor Adorno, an old, bald grandfather figure from Frankfurt School. He would never have had all of those girls screaming and carrying on! Since they could not read or write music, Beatles music was recorded in the studio by instrumentalists like Ronnie Verrell and Vic Flick. Frank Zappa was another of the controllers who could do it all, so to speak. None of The Beatles could play their way out of a paper bag!
Now, I realized the beatles were the best tribute band of the Rutles.
Hilarious
Yes!!👍🥰
😄Absolutely great comment. Flat out.
The best song the Beatles never wrote, because Neil Innes is a genius.
wandering trash
Yes, I'm entirely aware. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek. ;)
+Bonni Hall No doubt, Neil Innes was awesome. Loved him in his MP parts.
even the bongo overdubs are spot on . Oasis are the best Rutles tribute
band ever.!
Idiot
psoriasis was the cover band :-)
LOL-YO!
Neil Innes is criminally underrated...
Every time I watch The Rutles, I laugh until I stop.
R.I.P, Ron Nasty. You will never be forgotten.
Who?
@@robinburn4974 Ron Nasty was the name of the "John Lennon" character in The Rutles. Played by Neil Innes who died in December 2019.

@@Matthew-ut6ed Two years already.
I love Neil Innis - a talented and very special gent. His John Lennon tribute band name is Ron Nasty.
The attention to detail in these Rutles songs is amazing.
The best satire of The Beatles ever done...and the songwriting was brilliant.
If not for the Mop Tops... (sigh)

solerso68 Thanks for the facts. And thanks to June for another cool post.
no, t'was Neil Innes
I love how they congratulate each other after they think he took a good picture of them.
Legends that will last a lunchtime.

+forkhead Paul was frosty because Idle personified him too well: a smug guy.
And Ringo?
That 12 strings Rickenbacker sound. Just love it!!!!
From "A Hard Day's Rut" . Great album, that.
gdholmfirth And on UA-cam in its entirety, actually! :) Look up the channel 'RonaldNasty'!
Neil Innes was a genius making those songs.
This is an actual great song in its own right, I reckon 😍
It really is! I love it. It's such a fun little power pop tune
They all are.
@@monsieurlaguillotine3481 Superb.
Ricky Fataar was in the Rutles, but was an official Beach Boy for a time, too. Talented fella
Reminds me Toni Tennile was an Honorary Beach Boy as she played keyboard for them.

I still have the LP!
A legend in their own lunchtime
Because they aren't taking themselves seriously, they are just damn brilliant!
I wish The Beatles had reformed and covered this.
Actually an awesome song!!!
It's more Beatles than the Beatles,, incredible,,
RIP Neil Innes
Good enough to be a Beatles song and you can't get higher praise then that.
Neill Innis wrote all the songs, they are really good..The Rutles is a Cult movie now..
Neil Innes, musical genius, RIP🎶🎶
The 1977 VW Rabbit at 1:22 is a nice touch!

yes this is some of the finest pop in my collection, right up there with the beatles and xtc.
First time I heard this. This is about as catchy as you can get. Brilliant.
A terrific catchy song in its own right
It was long before Koko Nono put a mess between them!
amongtwentysnowymountains 😂😂👍🏻👊🏻
Don't you mean chastity?

As soon as I heard the Rutles that was it! Forget the Beatles and everyone else the Rutles took over my life and I've been in a rut ever since!
Damn. Never noticed a 14 year old post before. How are you doing lol?

Same here!
They owe all their success to Leggy Mountbatten.
Not THE Leggy Mountbatten, with the electric pancake! Really? I'm impressed 😂
The Rutles always bring me so much cheer! It's that Rutland beat!
I'll never forget seeing these guys in 66
at che stadium? named after famous Cuban guerilla che stadium?
impossible
I remember in '64 seeing them on the Ed Sullivarut show.
They sound just like The Beatles. Great lyrics.
The beatles sound like them 😉
Great music...love that 12 string! It is all in good fun.
The Beatles nicked so much from The Rutles, we all know that as a fact.
Perfect music to listen to with headphones on...and tea in hand.
Be careful tea is a strong drug!

real beatle sound, amazing!
The idea that there was a kind of parallel universe going on at the same time as the Beatles was a genius idea.
I luv' the prefab four!
Wow. It's just frightening. I still can't get over, after all these years, what they created. Thanks for the upload.
Saw these guys and they were great.
The Rutles were so much bigger than God....and Rod. :)
And cod, and mod,😂
I really think who your favorite Rutle is says so much about you.
It is ironic that the parody band of The Rutles, active 1962-70, sold far more records.
Mike Fenn Liverpool was just riding on Rutland's coattails!!
I don't see them as a parody band. More as a Beatles tribute band with original songs based on existing ones.
georgemiser: Good job on completely missing the point of the original comment there!
+Mike Fenn: Well played, sir

You're all gonna rot your brain listening to this loud rock n roll music
Eh? What?
I sure hope so
If the Beatles had been half as good as this, they would have been moderately successful.
Give Neil Ines some love..... He is the "fifth Python" btw.......
RIP Neil Innes...
I had fever, headache, chest pain, headache yesterday. I must be . . .
