"In those early days, there was a fifth Rutle - Leppo, a friend of Nasty's from Art College who mainly used to stand at the back. He couldn't play the guitar, but he knew how to have a good time and in Hamburg, that was more important."
Years before spinal tap and predating the mockumentary style of filmmaking, this is a masterpiece that really needs to be re-released in the cinemas and on DVD...
I saw this on TV in March 1978. I bought the soundtrack album 2 months later, still have it. I didn't see the movie again till I bought the DVD in 2005.
This is not even a trailer for this immortal gem in cinematography and hilarious Big Bang and grandmother of all mockumentaries. It's only the film's first 4 minutes! Patsy would probably say: "It's only a model..."
20 minutes? How'd they do that when the album is 38 minutes long? Did they record it at 78 rpm with their little Chipmunk voices, and then slowed it down when they pressed it? I am confused by your comment.
I have never seen this behemoth in full... I need to correct that. Neil Innes was a genius matching the sounds and style of the prefab four to the, er, well that other mop-haired quartet, The Beadles. John, Jarge, Powell and Rhino.
Actually, as decent as "Get Back" was, if THOSE were the actual lyrics to The Beatles song, I would have liked it even better! I don't know if I'm being serious or joking here because, that's the song that got me into the Beatles in 1981 at 8 years old watching a Q107 (FM radio) commercial in the DC area in NoVa
He was absolutely great in this! I saw a clip of him wearing a rubber ducky hat just a few years ago before his passing. Plus he had a lot to do with the songwriting of the mimicking songs.. of the confusing "are they real or not?" band...(Just kidding, for the simpletons who don't get the humor there... I loved the mocking in the comments of folks acting as if the movie was real, yet obviously being sarcastic.. A KILLER COMMENT SECTION HERE). HAIL THE MOST IMPORTANT BAND IN ENGLAND AND THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD. Signing off from Arizona
I work at a used record store and I always see that Rutles record around, I always mistake it for a Beatles record at first because they copied them so well haha. I never knew that was Eric Idle lol. I guess I never looked close enough.
Might as well do a full multi-format release like everything else nowadays: upscaled 4K blu-ray, DVD, CD-V, VHS, laserdisc, VinylVideo, 8mm film, filp cards, etc. Don't want to exclude anybody's playback ability.
Everybody is talking about how they lasted 20 minutes doing their first album, but no one is talking about how they lasted also 20 minutes doing berries fields forever
I was 17yr old and Beatles fan for many years when I came home from basketball practice. Then I opened television and slowly started to understand what I was watching. The Time I heard Harrisons voice in front of banana record Office I was rolling on the floor and laughing like crazy. That night I understood what is the meaning of all... You cannot die because you laugh too hard. You must die for another reason🔫

I know, right? How come I've loved the Beatles since 2004 and only finding out about this now?
Haha when he keeps getting faster lmfao Eric Idle is the greatest.

I still have my album too.

The true sound of rock and roll.
Get up and go is a great tune 😂

2:03 is the best part
I lose it when he starts running 😂😂😂
I loved this movie!
I know they are only mimicking the Beatles, but damn are they good
Greatest parody ever!
This was a ROAST. Savage!
We ❤ the
Fantabulous Four!
3:11 Ha! Did the dummy and his ventriloquist also get an MBE?

A legend that will last a lunchtime!
Rutles kick ass!
Who made the '60s what they are today ... What a great line that is almost missed.

I heard they had broken up. Apparently, these days Stig works as a tame racing car driver for some insignificant motoring programme.😥
I wish they remastered the film
Back when parody was gold
C'mon everyone- how about getting the Rutles into the RRHOF? RIP Neil.
How dare you so SOIL Lennon's memory with Ron NASTY?!?! You BASTARD!!!!!
@@AZDC99 Who tf is Lennon? I only know Ron Nasty
@@AZDC99 John woulda loved it.
They should be in RRHOF ! They are most probably better than most of the crap 'filler' artists who get into the RRHOF !!!
What are your favourite songs from Stig and Barry's solo career?
"Five foot two, knows kung fu...!"
Best movie ever
LOVES IT.... SO MUCH !
When I saw John Lennon and Nazi Ono I lost it...
😂… I forgot about that part.
Havent seen this in years
This is too complicated for people today.
Eric Idle just stated the obvious, this is a pretty good movie from the 1970's,77 I think.
4/2021. Thank you. ( ;
British humor/humour 🇬🇧 is the best.🤩🤩🤩🤩✌️😃🕯️ Love Always, from the US, 🇺🇸 AKA: The States
I remember first seeing something like this on SNL and thinking, "This is a joke, right?"
yes, yes it is
Son los beatles de otra realidad alterna
¡En serio!
yes
When it was still funny to use the name Mountbatten in a comedy sketch... British comedy is legendary. The Rutles should write "Back in the EU".
"Back in the EU, and we still can't fight this flu..."
3:16 That seems about right.
And we worried that George only had crisps for a snack!
In love ohhhhh IMust be in Luv!
dude lets be natural is an awesome tune!
3:22 Bianca Jagger
not a trailer
clark the shark is a rutles fan
The Beatles totally ripped them off! 🤫😉
Are they parodying a certain band or something?
:-O Merseyside Vans? Merseyside didn't exist in the 1960s, is there a possibility that this is all fake!? (and Neil Innes was a freakin genius)
The beatles at home
lol ... "John"s bride in Nazi armband! (3:16)
Noel Gallagher sent me here 😁
rubbish trailer for a great film
C-H-E-E-S-E-A-N-D-O-N-I-O-N-S Oh no...
C'mon, you know you sang that...
Was that the real Queen of England?
@Ad Max Well, I didn't vote for her.
Undoubtedly
She's an impersonator of the Queen. She is called Jeanette Charles.
@@robertlindo8058 well, she nailed it
UPC MOMENT
When parody overtakes the original, you know the world has problems (or not)
Harrison as a South Asian, lol

Bigger than Rod.
Get off my foot ! girl .
