    Before I knew about universalism, I was always in despair, because I couldn't stop sinning. After I learned about about universalism I felt an urge to proclaim: How great the Lord is! And after I did so, I immediately repented for my sins and stopped committing them!

      Very similar to my experience. Since receiving the Holy Spirit, I feel convicted when approaching any Christian doctrine that preaches eternal damnation, but feel that it is true to the loving and merciful nature of God when reading and hearing about universal salvation. I believe there is consequence for sin, and we will be rehabilitated by the Lord either on Earth or in the afterlife, but even if those rehabilitative consequences last for thousands of years, God will always have ultimate and total victory in the end when He makes everything right again.

    The main references to universal salvation in the Gospels are in Mark 3:28 ("all sins will be forgiven"), Matthew 18:12-14 (the lost sheep), and John 12:32 ("I will draw all people unto myself.") and parallel passages. John 21:25 says that Jesus taught many more things that were not recorded, so Jesus probably did teach a lot on universal salvation, but it wasn´t all recorded because he knew the other Biblical authors would deal with it adequately.

      Are you kidding us? Jesus did no such thing. Best to go back and read Matthew 25:46 a few times. Everlasting and eternal are the same words there in the Greek language. It is NOT at time of "correction", but of "everlasting punishment, for the ungodly. " If the universalist disagrees, then they must also disagree that the righteous are not going to be in a time of "eternal life", but only for "an age". Then this scripture would make absolutely no sense. Ridiculous !

      @@christophergibson7155 My stance is that the goats are nothing more than the devil and his angels. It never said that the goats were humans created in the image of God. The original Greek text never says "people" but rather "these," "they", etc.
      The word for "nations" can also be translated "hosts" and "multitudes" according to Thayer and Kittle. The passage is very much more mysterious than we thought.

      @@ViolinistJeff That can not possible be true regarding the goats. Jesus when using terms such as wheat and tares, good fish and bad fish, and including sheep and goats was always referring to the righteous and the ungodly. Just because "the goat" is a symbol of Satanic worship would not make your interpretation valid.
      "The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one...."The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend,
      and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, (not a refiner's fire of correction, by the way)." (Matthew 13:38,41-42)

      Goats symbolize demons in Lev 17:7.

      @@ViolinistJeff Nah! You have read something into Leviticus 17:7 that is not there. The people of Israel got into worshipping false idols (demons behind every idol). Nothing to do here with goats being offered.
      The reason Jesus compares sheep and goats is this: they both look the same at a great distance. Just like wheat and tares look similar when they are young. Goats represent "false converts" to the faith. The goats will be separated and condemned, but the sheep (the righteous) will go into eternal life in the kingdom of heaven.

    John 3:36 says, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
    Do you believe Universalism or John 3:36? You can't believe both.

    The important thing about Jesus was that the Spirit could stay upon Him. Yes, the Spirit could also stay upon John, but only if John followed a rigorous life. Jesus didn't have to refrain from drinking. He could go where all of the sinners were. Because sin must be about more than what you put into your mouth. Sin is about making judgments. The sort of judgments that are made in the heart.
    The very act of Jesus' presence among the people demonstrated that He didn't judge them. It is only our sense of right and wrong that we picked up in the garden, that also told us we were naked before God, that tells us that God judges us. When it's not busy doing that, it's busy driving wedges between what unifies us as human beings.
    It is because the Spirit would not leave the man that Jesus rose from the grave. Then, after something like 40 days, you have that same Spirit descend upon the 120. It is no longer a Spirit that cannot stay with people. He will not leave them because they've done something, like drink alcohol, or hurt somebody. He will always be about teaching them that they are loved, not to doubt that and substitute anything else for it. Otherwise, substances only go in and come out.
    If you can't feel how much you are loved you can do it by faith, filling in those things that you never got from those who should have helped you at the right time. You are just realizing that you can only do so much alone. You aren't even certain if your goals are worth keeping. Maybe they are? Maybe they aren't? The Spirit lives, more or less, in the shape of that. The shape where you got what you needed to make connections. To be patient. He will teach you to listen. He won't give up on you. This isn't like with Adam.
    I say this as a true universalist. As one who realizes there is no such thing as good and evil. But I had to listen to the Spirit to come to that understanding. I only had to understand why Jesus alone could do what He was doing, bringing the Spirit back to us here on earth, in a way where He could stay with us.
    But that didn't mean we were done. There was still no hallelujah chorus of angels singing for Jesus, like the apocalyptic messages all seem to tell of. Damn, Middle Ages and twisting upon the pike of philosophy. Dam Industrial Revolution. Damn wars. Damn so many things, but don't damn yourselves for the lessons they should have taught you. The whole exercise, if it's not about sin, if it never was, is about the same thing as bringing the water to the steward at the wedding in Cana. The wine came from one of six stone jars which could be the six stone jars of our history. When presented to the Steward, the version of ourselves that we use to approach such things, we don't have to see it as only water. We can see it as the wine of experience!

      If you are not a universalist then you must answer the question, “what makes you worthy of salvation & not that guy?” If your answer involves any boasting on your part you are not describing salvation because God says no man can boast in salvation for it is by grace you are saved.

Why is that not the benchmark of any thread of Christian tradition? What, exactly, did happen when Constantine won and claimed it was a Christian victory? What happened politically, that he could do that?

    When Jesus talked about Gahanna he was not referring to the afterlife, but to the upcoming destruction of Jerusalem, and that their system would soon be coming to an end.

    The Bible says our God is a consuming fire ask yourself what he consumes you will find the answer in 1st Corinthians 3 verses 11 through 15 he consumed the wood hay and stubble and in the end you will be saved as of my fire the word fire means pure how much clearer can it be

    Jesus said himself that he was only sent to the Lost House of Israel what Jesus spoke about gehenna had nothing to do with the Gentiles this judgment was the only fall upon Jerusalem also and John's letter to the Gentiles John never once mentioned gehenna why because these judgements did not concern them

    Does salting with fire necessarely means hell? God is fire Himself. Heaven and hell must be ín Hím. Hé is Heaven for the believers and hell for the non believers, no?

    One thing I know about in these days is not everyone will come to the Son of God the Lamb Who died to save us from our sins not to mention a number of verses in the New Testament of the Bible confirm those who say no to the blood He shed on the cross will be judged by the law He kept before He was crucified they will be brought in bondage to what they don't want to be saved from in other words.

    Yeah all these verses right here make it pretty clear about where the children of Satan will end up in.

      Um the word torment is a mistranslation of basanizos which means refinement or interrogation. The word for fire is theion or divine fire and brimstone was used for purification in ancient times.

      @@ezequielarce8079 That question shouldn't exist brother. All is all. If the context is talking about humankind and says "all", is all of mankind that its been talking about. Remember that Apostolic Saying: Christ is the savior of all, not only of believers. That is no exception in the language that bible uses for salvation. Is indeed for afterlife blessedness and reward but no for salvation at all.

      @IsaacNussbaum in 16019 this is a destruction that is coming from God not that we are being pushed away from God, just as Lamentations 3:31 says, among many other scriptures that God does not cast of anyone forever,.... In Isaiah 25.8 is the scripture that tells what Jesus came to do, defeat the grave, and wipe away tears from All faces. 2nd Corinthians 5.4.. there are many other scriptures that teach the same thing, people need to quit reading toxic Bibles!!!

      1.) Since no part of man has a disembodied consciousness, on what, exactly, does this "purification" process work?
      2.) Since there is no such place as hell, where will this "purification" process happen?
      3.) Since the Bible plainly teaches that only the followers of Jesus will enjoy immortality, what good will this "purification" be if the objects of it are not immortal?

      Yes according to Matthew 7:13 sir wide is the gate that leadeth to destruction but narrow is the gate that leads to eternal life.

      yes, and most Christians believe in eternal destruction, so they have opened that gate really wide and (universal salvation) gate is very small and few there be that find it. meaning we are a minority in this belief.

      Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time

    Why don't you start off by telling people that there is no hell in the true Hebrew or Greek text from cover to cover, and that Jesus never said it, and the apostles never taught it and then go on with your speech from there,!!!

    No, he didn't. And even if universalism is true (that is, at the final end of all things, all will be restored and God will be all and in all), preaching it seems wildly imprudent. It empties the Gospel of its sense of urgency, which we see explicitly in Jesus' teaching from the beginning: "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand." For the whole of the Christian church to proclaim universalism would mean the end to ascetic struggle, the need for prayer and repentance, and so on. It would impair both the ethical and the spiritual dimensions of the faith.

      Only if universalism is preached falsely - e.g. "there is no hell - no judgment to come"...
      Historic Christian Universalism believes in and openly proclaims a day of judgment and potential (redemptive) punishment (but not "eternal" - a horrible mistranslation e.g. in Matt.25). The "wrath to come" is very real - and should be avoided.
      Paul was not reticent to speak of universal salvation (Romans 5, 11, 1 Cor.15, Col. 1, etc.) - and said, "10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. 11 Command and teach these things." 1 Tim. 4
      Again, "Command and teach these things..." - It is an essential part of the truly "GOOD News" - a blunt indicative before it is ever construed as a mere invitation.
      For me personally it has opened up infinite dimensions of the Love and Wisdom of God - not once impairing the ethical and spiritual dimensions of my faith... Sin loses its attraction when one sees more clearly the kindness of God - which leads to repentance....

      There's plenty to be urgent about. Many people urgently need food, a home, clothes, safety and so on. So be urgent for them. Why wouldn't you pray? There are going to be situations where you're not going to know how to help, pray then. Why wouldn't you repent? Do you need a threat of violence to feel bad about your wrongdoing?

      One can be a universalist and value asceticism, precisely because it is through that struggle that Christians are made whole and are brought into the divine life. Who wouldn't want that, and want to start now, even if there is a guarantee that all will make it eventually?

      Christians all around the world can't even pinpoint what really brings someone to salvation. Jesus says so much throughout the new testament about what will get you to heaven, so which one is it? I think think Jesus meant when he said he came to be the savior of all ESPECIALLY those who believe. Too much scripture that aims towards universal salvation to ignore. Too much lack of the use of the world hell to believe it is everlasting torment. When was hell created? It was not brought up once in Genesis. The concept isn't even used in the old testament. Rob bell is a weird dude but the book love wins he wrote, though a little far fetched at times really opened my eyes to a lot of these things.

    No he didn't. He was pretty clear on that he's the only doorway to the Father. Remember, straight is the gate and narrow is the way? And Ye must be born again?
    All roads do not lead to eternal salvation, only Jesus Christ does.
    John 3:18
    "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God"
    No eternal torment? No eternal punishment?
    2 Thessalonians 1:9
    They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might
    Matthew 25:46
    And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life
    Revelation 14:11
    And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name
    Revelation 20:15
    And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire
    These are just a few verses on the subject.
    You'd have to ignore a lot of scripture to believe &teach universalism, that everyone makes it to heaven regardless of what they believe, that there is no place of eternal punishment, etc. It's simply not scriptural.

      How is the fact that Jesus is the only pathway to the father actually a point against universalism? People like you never think about those things, they assume they contradict it and never think about it again. Many universalists say that you have to accept Jesus consciously, but there is no reason that it has to be in this world. Another line of argument could be: Jesus is a bridge to the father. You don't need to know the name of the bridge to walk over it.

      @@derpfaddesweisen Because I've heard people who subscribe to Universalism say that Christ is not necessary to achieve salvation, that they are saved regardless of belief in him.
      In terms of placing belief in him after one has died being a way of salvation, scripture tells us that after death, all that remains for the unbeliever is judgement (Revelation 20:14-15).
      Do we need to know by which bridge we must cross to reach the Father? Yes. Scripture tells us, it gives clear instructions, as a road map would give the name of the bridge you'd have to cross to get to your desired location. If who Christ is was unimportant, or not entirely necessary, the information given in scripture about him wouldn't be there. Major emphasis was placed on him.

      @@tcb6857 Yeah, you are intentionally obtuse now. Christ is the bridge. You don't need to know the name of a bridge to walk over it. In Matthew 25, the only passage infernalists can actually use, Jesus claims not, that those are saved who held a specific believe. Instead those are saved who helped the poor and visited the people in the prisons. So even the one passage that seems to contradict universalism is also the deathblow to your hilariously unbiblical worldview. Following Jesus has nothing to do with abstract believes and everything with behaviour. Scripture is pretty clear about that, at least in the synoptics.

    I totally disagree Jesus did not preach universalism. Jesus did not advocate repaying evil for evil. Matthew 19:25-26 "When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” John 12:32 "And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” Luke 9:56 "For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village." Matthew 5:43-48
    43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
    44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
    45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
    46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
    47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
    48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

      So 95% of Christians? You realize that by not being a universalist that makes you an unbeliever? Jesus was sent to save the world as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. If you think Jesus only came to take away the sin of the righteous then you are in direct opposition of Jesus because He said “I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”
