    Okay! I’ve used this pattern going on 2 years for Christmas gifts and cold weather, I LOVE IT. It’s perfect. Tips: use a thick and quick chunky yarn by lion brand. It comes out great every time! Also, after you finish the brim (1st part) go around the loom ONE TIME doing the simple knit stitch. Then start with the knit, move, wrap, purl, knit pattern. It comes out more defined in the slouchy part.

      Why do people like you come on someone’s post and start dictating how it should be done!?!?!? Make your own channel and videos on how YOU feel it should be done!!! Fucking annoying

      Hello, by "simple knit stitch" do you mean the e-wrap knit stitch?

    Hi Lily Soto! The loom we used in this video is a 41 peg loom and the sequence of 4 steps works fine on this loom because it results in spiral. However, on a 40 peg loom, the result is totally different. We recommend you to work the following sequence of 3 steps instead:
    1. knit / 2. pull over & wrap the empty loop / 3. purl the 2 loops and then start over again the same sequence (1. / 2. / 3. ) . These are the same directions shown in the video but without the last knit. If you do so, since 40 is not multiple of 3, you will get your work in "spiral" as we have, so the result will look quite similar :)

      I just took all my work off my 40 peg loom. Frustrated! But, it was my fault! I heard her say 41 pegs & just assumed I had the same loom. Durp! LOL

    I love this tutorial! It took a couple of tries and reading the comments (mine is a 40 peg loom) before I figured out my first slouchy hat. It was a bit too short which is okay, and my second one turned out PERFECT. I had to use a 6 worsted weight yarn since my cheap 4 is too thin. I am now trying a 36 peg hat with two strands of 4 weight to see how that turns out. Hopefully it will be perfect for the niece for Christmas!

    Hello Thea Rojo :) Yes, you can use a 36 peg loom. You can work the brim in the same way and, after that, use the following sequence of 5 steps instead: 1. knit / 2. pull over & wrap the empty loop / 3. purl the 2 loops / 4. knit / 5. knit and then start over again the same sequence (1. / 2. / 3. / 4. / 5. ) . These are the same directions shown in the video but with one extra knit. You will get your work in "spiral" and the result will look quite similar :)

      I've been having an issue with my 36 peg loom too! I have the larger one coming in the mail soon so I'm glad I saw this comment for the meantime. Out of curiosity, what's the difference in the size of the hat? I heard if you use the 36 peg loom for slouchy hats it generally fits teenagers/adolescents?

    So I'm a dad that decided to make this for my wife/daughter. I decided that this would be OK on my 40 peg loom. Then when I got to the 1/4 steps I realized the 41 pegs were important, however I misunderstood the instructions and just did knit, move/wrap empty peg, purl double peg and kept repeating. Luckily after looking at your comments that is what you recommended for 40 pegs. I did use a Red Heart yarn that is a #4, and now that I'm getting close to finishing I'm not super excited about it, gonna have to get a thicker yarn and try again. Love this tutorial though, and excited about trying some others you have.
    Thanks for your great videos!

    Hi Nathan Bryant! Thanks for your comment :) This yarn was "for 7mm knitting needles", so we could say it's bulky but not super bulky, right?Each ball weighted 50g and had about 41m of length (we hope this helps)

    Hi Valerie! :) Probably you didn't got lost, but the problem is the number of pegs. The loom we used in this video is a 41 peg loom and the sequence of 4 steps works fine on this loom because it results in spiral. However, on a 40 peg loom, the result is totally different. I used a 41 peg loom and at first I was frustrated and pulled everything out...I figured out I had the pattern wrong! Started again and used a bulky yarn...I was still skeptical because I thought it had holes in it but kept going. The hat is really cute! love it! and will be nice and warm while I am waiting for the train to go to work in -9 degree weather!! thank you

    Hi Jaqueline! :) On a 36 peg the first part of the hat could be the same. After that, you could repeat a sequence of 5 steps instead of 4 steps. For example, you could make: 1. knit / 2. move the loop and wrap the empty peg / 3. purl the two loops / 4. knit / 5. knit
    In this case you would repeat a sequence that couldn't be compleated at the end of the row (as it happens in the video on a 41 peg), so it would look as an spiral... Hope this helps!

  • @Tuteate
    @Tuteate  9 років тому +6

    Hi mg g! At 0:48 we are casting on the stitches, so yes, it is very similar to a regular knit stitch (we pull the bottom loop over the top). You can cast on stitches by wrapping each peg once for a whole round, and then wrapping them again and pulling. Here we are wrapping each peg twice and then pulling the bottom loop over the top, because in this way we ensure that we don't leave loops too tight...

    Love your videos, but could you start mentioning if it's worsted, bulky, or super bulky yarn you are using. It's kind of hard to tell in the videos for me. From the birds eye view the yarn looks like bulky, but then sometimes when there is a part zoomed in the yarn looks smaller and more like worsted..

On the second part, try repeating a sequence of 3 steps as following: 1. knit / 2. move the loop and wrap the empty peg / 3. purl the two loops (it's the same sequence shown in the video without making the last step, directly starting over the sequence again).

    Hi Melinda Hill :) On a 40 peg loom, after working the brim in the same way we do on the video, you should work the following sequence of 3 steps: 1. knit / 2. move the second loop to the third peg & wrap the empty loop / 3. purl the 2 loops and then start over again the same sequence (1. / 2. / 3. ) . These are the same directions shown in the video but without the last knit. You will get your work in "spiral" and the result will look quite similar :)

      +Samantha Bellefeuille I think I figured out the problem. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think its the yarn. I noticed that the holes showed up a little bit in the video too. the thicker the yarn you use, the smaller the spaces become. So the cheap Red Heart stuff is going to give you really big gaps unless you knit it REALLY tight

    Hi Моника Эмилли ! On a 31 peg loom we recommend you to use the following sequence of 3 steps instead:1. knit / 2. pull over & wrap the empty loop / 3. purl the 2 loops and then start over again the same sequence (1. / 2. / 3. ) . These are the same directions shown in the video but without the last knit. You will get your work in "spiral" and the result will look quite similar :)

    I want to say first you are absolutely AMAZING!! Your video's have helped me ever step of the way. I just bought my first set of looms from walmart and every questions I have I turn to youtube for the answers and that when I ran across your videos. You and the others that I have put on my favorites list are my new best friends. I have already made 6 hats, each one using a different stitch that I learned. Itried the beanie hat , but my loom has 36 pegs so it didn't come exactly like yours, but thats ok, I'll try again and get it right on the money next time.

    Okay so I think I might've figured out where I went wrong. After Knitting for step four do you knit again for step one? I was thinking step four is just a repeat of step one, so I was doing a knit, move the loop, pearl, knit, more the loop, pearl. But if it after step four you knit again, then that could be the problem. This may also be why everyone else is getting holes.

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  5 років тому

      Hi Emily! (sorry for this laaaaaaate reply!). Yes, I do knit, move the loop & create a new loop, purl, knit and then again knit, move the loop & create a new loop, purl, knit,...

      Hi! Gauge: In pattern, 10 stitches and 24 rows = 10cm (4 in). How many pegs is your loom? The sequence we use in this video works fine on 41 peg looms (and looms with a number of pegs multiple of 4 + 1). If you have a different loom, multiple of 5+1 (such as a 36-peg loom), then you could do this: you can work the brim in the same way and, after that, we recommend you to use the following sequence of 5 steps instead. 1) knit 1 , 2) move the loom & wrap the empty peg, 3) purl the 2 loops together, 4) knit 1 and 5) knit 1, and then start over again the same sequence (1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5.) . These are the same directions shown in the video but with an extra knit at the end of each sequence. You will get your work in "spiral" and the result will look quite similar :)

      I know this is an old comment, but since it's near the top, I figured I'd reply and maybe other people who are similarly confused will see it. The sequence begins and ends with knitting one peg. That's why it looks like they are knitting two pegs. Think of it like this:
      Knit, move, wrap, purl, knit -- knit, move, wrap, purl, knit -- knit, move, wrap, purl, knit

    This is a really nice hat for a beginner like myself. Make sure not to do anything on the brim too tight, or it will come back to haunt you when you start the body of the hat. Also, making the body a little shorter still makes a nice beanie if you're afraid of it being too big. Great tutorial! ^_^

  • @Tuteate
    @Tuteate  10 років тому +1

    Hi Alma Jessie! If you have a 36 peg loom we recommend you to always knit 1 more peg at the end of the sequence described in the video. This means the sequence you described is fine: knit one, move the next loop to the following peg, wrap the empty peg, pull through the two loops, place the new loop on the peg, knit one peg then knit another one again. Then you have worked 5 pegs, and then you start the sequence again for the next 5 pegs (peg1: knit / peg2: move loop to the next and wrap / peg3: purl through the 2 loops / peg 4: knit / peg 5: knit).

    Hi Reecemw! (sorry for this late reply) Sometimes, if you don't pull a little bit (using the hook) the loop that you leave on a peg (just after knitting that peg) the loops get tighter and tighter because (we do pull the working yarn that we have on our hand)... Try working like this: knit a peg, then pull a little bit the loop that it is on it (to make it looser) and then knit the next peg. Hope this helps!

    This is my favorite pattern! I make it with 2 strands of plain ol' worsted weight yarn (the typical size yarn they sell everywhere) and I get results similar to the video. It does make the hat stiffer so it's not as slouchy, but it has such a nice feel and holds up really well. I'm making a scarf for the first time using this pattern, on a 28-peg loom. I ended up using the 4-peg configuration 6 times, then the 3-peg configuration once to offset the pattern. So far it seems to all blend together. Thank you for the tutorial!
