What is the meaning of Open Science? | Open Science Festival - Keynote

The first keynote at the second German Open Science Festival in Cologne was held by Dr. Benedikt Fecher, Managing Director at Wissenschaft im Dialog.
His topic was all about the question about the meaning of open science since there are various meanings associated with open sciecen, ranging from a democratic movement to a neoliberal campaign. These meanings are so contradictory that one could argue that Open Science has no meaning at all. It is worthwhile to reverse the question and examine how meaning emerges through openness.
In his keynote, Benedikt Fecher explains how these different meanings of Open Science have emerged, introduces a framework for openness as meaning making and explains how adopting this pragmatic approach to Open Science can help shape research in the best interest of both science and society.
