- There are different prices for Foreigners in India! Foreigners are always charged more than Indians. Just how much more are tourists charged? I'll show you and give you tips on how to bargain in India and bring prices down by up to 50%.
More and more fixed-price stores are starting to open in India thankfully. But rickshaw drivers and street sellers will generally use the bargaining system to extract the best price from tourists. In some cities, like Mumbai, the rickshaw drivers will use the meter, but they take tourists the long way to increase the fare.

Whenever Manisha and I are shopping, we can't let the shopkeeper see me. Because as soon as they see an Indian with a foreigner they assume she's an NRI or foreigner too! The price skyrockets for basic things she's trying to buy. It's so annoying for her 😂 People actually ask her, "Where are you from?" and are surprised when they hear her speak Hindi 😂

There are advantages and disadvantages to being a foreigner in India. The same applies for local Indians too. It's a good topic for a video with Manisha actually. She's considered an Indian when she's alone, and seen as a foreigner when she's with me.
Why are they charging more ? Because they CAN and SHOULD. These people make a way below minimum wage (vs 1st world Nations). The products and services they sell are dramatically cheaper than what "we" are used to paying in our home countries, even at inflated prices. If you can afford to travel there as a tourist or even student or employee, you can afford to pay the inflated tourist prices.

Since you are married to an Indian lady , you can apply for OCI card for yourself. You can show it a Taj mahal and other tourist places where you will be charged same as an Indian citizen. You will have the same rights as an Indian except the right to vote.

It’s the same for a lot of Indian stores in Chicago. I have what I refer to as my North Family ( I’m from NC, but reside in Chicago for now) who are from India. We go shopping together often . I get charged a lot more than they do. I call it the “white price”.

They do the same thing in Thailand. Some places are free for locals to visit but foreigners have to pay. Taxi drivers are required by law to use a meter but sometimes if they see you’re a foreigner they will try to haggle with you over the fare starting at a price that’s 4 times higher than it should be.

When I went to Malaysia and went to the zoo there literally was a foreigner and native Malay price on the screen lol
Major attraction like Bukit Bendera Hill Train has that different rate as well but those are regulated by our government. Only several places have different rate like that.
But there's one catch, if u go to Kelantan, the east coast state of Malaysia, even like me, a citizen of Malaysia, can get screwed up by small stalls and shops there. Only if I am able to speak local dilect till they are unable to identify me as an outsider then they give u good prices like locals.

Even in Sunway Lagoon in Kuala Lumpur. They have different price for locals and foreigners.
In the US, we have significantly different prices for local and for out of state college tuition. On some grounds, it make sense because locals pay taxes (property taxes, etc) which help fund these things whereas foreigners do not.
That's the case in India too, government regulations I guess

Bring them and show them the ropes. I can guarantee they'll have a much better time with you possibly showing them places they wouldn't otherwise go to.

Same goes to Thailand. I remember if want go to some temples, Thai/Siamese will go in for free while foreigners will charge like 50THB. Even go for any restaurants. The first time, my parents speak Thai (yes, my parents can speak Thai but me can just a little bit because my parents and I are Malaysians living near to Thailand border) and the price is like 800THB. The next day, this time use English instead of Thai and order the same meal as first time visit. Price is 1600THB instead of 800THB. The menu price is different (English version shows up to double the price while Thai version only 50% cheaper). Also, first time and second time visit is a bit different. First time visit my parents park their car a little further away from that restaurant and second visit park in front of that restaurant (because my parents car is Malaysian plate number).
Next, shopping at border town is a little different. I visit once every weekend (usually either Friday or Saturday because Kelantan use Friday and Saturday as weekends). I try and compared the rate. For example, every RM1 usually gets 7.5THB. But most exchange rate shop usually 0.1-0.2THB difference from official rates. Let's say you change RM100 for example. You'll get 730-740THB instead of official rate 750THB. Next, talking about shopping near border town. You can use Malaysian ringgit there but price is different. For example, if you dine in there, your total bills are about 1000THB (let's say you exchange only RM135 from exchange rate shop with exchange rate about 7.4THB every RM1). If you asked you want to pay Malaysian ringgit instead, they want to charge you for RM150 instead of RM135. So, RM150=1100THB (that's 100THB much expensive than exchange rate). I guess they count exchange rate like 6.66THB every RM1 instead of official rate 7.5THB or exchange rate shop 7.4THB.
