Regardless of your opinion of these movies, they offered what will likely be the very last chance for any of us to go to Middle Earth again. And for that, I'm thankful.

I remember back in 2012, I really wanted to watch this movie in theaters. But I unfortunately did not have a driver's license and had nobody else to take me to see the movie. So my grandma took me to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. She went in not knowing anything about Tolkien or Middle-earth, and she did not like watching movies that were scary or violent. She figured she would sit in her seat and eat popcorn the entire time while I watched the movie. But as we watched the movie, she became completely enthralled in it. She loved the scene when the dwarves started arriving at Bag End, and was on the edge of her seat whenever the characters were in danger, and genuinely wanted to see them survive. It was a great experience for both of us.
After that, I waited patiently for three years until all three Hobbit movies were released and watched before showing her The Lord of the Rings. She ended up loving all six movies. Not only that, but it opened up the chance for me to watch all kinds of other movies and TV shows with her that she normally wouldn't ever consider watching, and she ended up enjoying a good number of them.

At first I didn't liked this movie, but after seeing the whole trilogy now, I can say I really loved the movies, they all fit together really nicely, and to be fair, much of the things people hated about this movies are really just not that important.
I love the scenes were they just talk, make jokes, fight, it makes them feel real.
In the second one their travel becomes more and more dark, and the third one finishes with one big 30 minutes long war, that tights all together, this trilogy was made, from the beginning, as one large movie, divides in tree.
I can say I love this movies, not as much as TLOTR trilogy, wish is more mature, but people, go read the books again, all of them.
The Hobbit book: For Kids (But also for open mind adults)
The Hobbit movie: For Kids (But also for open mind adults)
    TLOTR books: (For adults)
    TLOTR movies: (For adults)
The tone of The Hobbit trilogy is just right, when you see it in retrospective.
I'll gladly make my future kids watch this movies in their young years, they are full of healthy fun, jokes, action, but also drama, sadness, danger, love, loss, etc.
    It's the whole package people!

I used to be disappointed in the trilogy but, after giving myself some time, I actually loved this movie!! I loved how deep they went into the story and how detailed it is! For exemple, the dinner scene is much more exciting and funny than I imagined compared to the book. The Eagles scene is mesmerizing!! Like it or not, you have to thank Peter Jackson for bringing us back to Middle Earth on screen after nearly a decade. The Hobbit trilogy may not be as oscar worthy as the Lord of the Rings, but it is certainly fun to watch when you let go of expectations.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey turns 10 today!!!
I remember my sister and I saw it together after Christmas
I'm happy director Peter Jackson brought us back to middle earth 9 years after the original trilogy ended
This was my first real introduction to Martin Freeman as an actor and he does amiable job playing a younger version of Bilbo Baggins with the quiet confidence and tenderness the late Ian Holm established
Really loved Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield leading the rest of the Dwarves, he's a lot more dignified than Gimli
Terrific seeing old cast members play their original roles Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and the late Christopher Lee as Saruman
Glad Andy Serkis came back as Gollum, like he never left and the scene of riddles in the dark is the best handled
The stone giant battle was awesome bringing something new to the table
Radaghast brings a silly quality although at times his presence can feel awkward and out of place
Most of the Dwarves barely have any personality making them less memorable
Odd they split it in 3 parts but Jackson is able to allow audiences to immerse themselves in the world, take more inspiration from Tolkien's writing, and get back into the swing of things
Even if this prequel trilogy is a mixed bag much of what's presented stays true to the original book despite its lengthy running time

I went and saw this movie last night and man it was everything I'd hoped for and more. I have always loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the book and the movies) as my favorite movies and books of all time, and I've been waiting for the hobbit for a while, so when it finally came out it was not disappointing. It was fun, it was epic, it was funny, and it was really cool as well and the mood was portrayed just as in the book as well as the accuracy of the events. I can't wait until part two!

The Hobbit trilogy and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy are by far the best films I have ever seen bar none. I can't praise them highly enough. There are no words to describe my feelings about these films. I read the books a long time ago and waited for years before technology caught up enough to tell these epic tales to do them justice. A few very films tried including one that included black light technology and an animation that was pretty good for the times. Not even all the Marvel comic adventures will ever come close to these films. My opinion only but there it is.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey's Ranking on IMDb places it ONLY as #249 in the Top 250 ranked movies of all time. Unlike any of The Lord of the Rings movies which are much higher, An Unexpected Journey might lose its spot on that list. Aww...COME ON PEOPLE!!! I just hope the last 2 Hobbit movies receive MUCH better reactions when they are released... :(
