    What good is space on the top of the batt as it's the bottom of the batt that will take the impacts off road. If there is no space on the bottom of the batt it is more likely that the cells could take damage.
    Also the idea of the floor of the interior is the top of the batt doesn't sound very safe to me; as there is no barrier between the passenger compartment, and the battery. If there was a gas off and or fire/explosion the passenger are doomed to serious injury and or death. The battery should be completely isolated from the passenger compartment. There should also be a layer of fire retardant insulation between the battery and the floor of the cab. This would give the passengers the time needed to escape.
    Sorry as a retired heavy equipment engineer I am not impressed.

    The fact the interior is assembled atop the battery pack and that whole assembly is then put in the car together means higher repair costs for fixing interior issues, but more alarming is the fact that this method of assembly means the occupants are toast in the event the battery off gases, because that gas has a direct path into the passenger compartment.
    You can have your EV’s, just don’t force them on those of us who don’t want them.

    • @chrispeterson7898
      @chrispeterson7898 11 днів тому

      Absolutely not. The empty space is at the bottom of the battery pack. The batteries themselves have a vent at the bottom as well. In case of a runaway pack, the batteries vent into the empty channel and out the bottom of the pack through a special water proof vent with a spark arrestor.
      This is a huge improvent in design. The video commentary says its unused space above the battery...but in Sandys video he is very clear that the unused space is the bottom of the battery.
      That also gives over 30mm of crush before anything even touchs the batteries. Rocks, tree trucks etc will do nothing...its basicaly a large skid plate.
      Now you know!

      Anyone who takes a cybertruck for actually going offroading without bringing a crane and a 40ft container full of water is likely going to be able to provide details on that. I'm thinking there's something in the warranty that prevents warranty claims from taking it off road.

    I was amazed to find out that the older model S has taught after market service shops to make changes to worn rubber grommets and tires because of the launches of the electric car motors on tires and they now have made changes to improve these issues and this is what I didn’t like about the GM and ford vehicles that came out and we’re not electric cars from the ground up and just nice cars. With electric motors , not a good mix.

    Rather than an 'add on' battery pack to be carried in the bed...I'd rather see a compact generator that would fit neatly and allow you to charge remotely using whatever fuel you choose be it gasoline, diesel or natural gas. Of course gasoline would be the cheapest and easiest solution with the lightest motor powering the generator and it wouldn't be able to switch fuels...but if you lived 'off grid' and had a natural gas well you could easily compress and run the generator off of it along with some wind or solar to charge when they're available.
