Hahhahahahah man , my god that “trailer” looks all cgi and not even gameplay( like all mobile game ads these days), and I’m surprised these fake ads are still legal although they’re all fake. Still good on you for getting sponsors.
Yes, before the upgrade, you were THE SHIP and you couldn't walk around on foot anywhere. A lot of space games are now under pressure from Star Citizen to let you land and walk around in space stations and on the ground, and maybe even walk around inside your ship in the future.
Imagine the guy who gave you a mission and you asked for more money and he said "You look like I can trust you" , imagine the look on his face when he sees you immediately go to pilot training after that conversation lmao
A huge tip to players who are curious to try elite dangerous after this. In the settings you can program a button to set your ship throttle to 75%. When in super cruise heading to a destination, If you activate that throttle setting at 7 seconds on the clock “0:07” You will always come in for a smooth entering and you’ll never have to turn around or emergency exit to get back to your destination.
I've been playing ED for quite a while before Odyssey came out, so it was cool watching what the new player experience is like in the Odyssey expansion.
@@Alecxace It used to be different. Altho progress was always slow, they were trying. Their tech support is really nice and cool, which was a new thing for me.
@@WwZa7 I don't recall a single time when FDev was ever really competent. They always sucked at communication, and they were always spread to thin, divided between other IPs. The game stagnated for a long time and when Odyssey's alpha came out we knew it was going to be really rough. tech support =/= game development. As a dev, FDev is and always will be horrible.
C is the speed of light, so however many C's is that much times the speed of light, Ly is light years, ls is light seconds, M is mega, k is kilo, this game uses SI units so if no unit is given the standard unit is assumed, e.g. speed is metres/second when no unit is given
@@elkikex oh it's not "C it's just C meaning celeritas in latin that means speed, which stands for the speed of light you're mistaken for "C as Celsius a unit of temperature
@@elkikex He's confused by the speed and distance displays I suppose. In supercruise it goes into c's to display how much the speed of light you're traveling (I believe it was soft capped at around 2011c or something but that takes a long time to reach). If you go "slower" however it changes to different units, such as Mm/s (Megameters per second) with the slowest being m/s (meters per second). Ls would be the distance measured in light seconds. It's all pretty simple once you understand the units, but it's probably easier for everyone outside of the US.
And it's just one of the ways you can do it. You can brute force your way in by cutting through the panels and overloading the locks. He did it the sneaky way though
I felt bad that he didnt get to really understand just how crazy big the elite dangerous galaxy is... I kinda wanted him to zoom out on his map and go "whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu????" Ive been playing elite off and on for years now, i gotta say, there is zero comparison to star citizen. Elite is a 1 for 1 scale galaxy with populated sections, aliens, galactic bodies now with odessy you get first person that finishes the immersion. Star Citizen is an expensive, pay to win cash grab that doesnt work and is hugely limited in size. Im still amazed a game from 2014 is the way it is....
This was a really fun watch! As you said; the game prior to the Odyssey expansion was all flying, no getting out of the ship. So it is really cool to see the experience of a new player using on-foot gameplay more as their default than flying. I hope you continue to enjoy the game even after the review!
@@TemalCageman Space legs are still a very different experience. Too bad the release was riddled with ongoing performance issues, which pretty much excluded a lot of people using low & midrange systems. I also think they should eliviate some of the issues of the long distances & slow travel times. Picking up speed while escaping a planets gravity for example takes about 1-2 minutes sometimes, which feels even longer since you can't actually do anything during that time. Same for some supercruise distances to other stars, which really should allow for a microjump (generally for bodies at a certain mass threshold). It's just very tedious and kind of a chore and that all got kinda worse with Horizons & then Odyssey. On foot experience has similar issues, or rather also adds onto existing issues, such as dying being very punishing in combination with the distance traveled (and with the all its time put into it) being lost. That's really my main complaint and why I'm not sure if I'll return, even if I ever get a new GPU, which hopefully compensates for the FPS issues in certain on foot situations.
@@Dark__Thoughts Horizons... as in pre Odyssey, allowed us to drive with a vehicle on the planet surface. I just pointed out that the OP was wrong when he wrote that "As you said; the game prior to the Odyssey expansion was all flying, no getting out of the ship.".
Yea, having played both I can say that I vastly prefer elite's way to SCs. But SC is just one system, and the last time I went to quantum my pilot fell out of the ship and died.
@@xaero5150 tbh, that is pretty Quantum move from the pilot. Edit: Also, how ED uses its different modes of travel, how that travel mechanicly works etc, makes it my absolute favorite mode of spacetravel in fiction.
@@KamiRecca When he went straight for the exclusion zone of the star, I was squirming. Or when he just went full speed at the planet. Or when he ran around the settlement with his gun out. Yea, fun to watch. If SC would just put in a method to target areas from the mobiglass that involved a list or a search box, that would be awesome. Or have a way to go into something similar to supercruise to get to where you can aim at a target in system. Or if elite would just offer ship interiors. I feel like elite is 95% of what I want with the other 5% being more curated content and ship interiors. It would not even be that hard, most of the ships are already modeled, with the only parts not modeled being modular. a size 6 cargo bay on a conda would be the exact same on a corvette or a python. The only difference would be the hallways and ship design.
Was always curious about Elite Dangerous. I would say play No Man’s Sky, Fallout 3, Vegas, 4, and Outer Worlds to get you Starfiel fix until it releases.
Not New Vegas lol. you’ll be disappointed if you play new Vegas because you’ll realize Bethesda will make the same mistake they made in fallout 4 which was it was a shooter first and RPG second.
@@mivuhis lol, either way the original 2d ones will always be my favorite. Fallout New Vegas is great sure, but I'm sick of people acting like it's a divine creation when most of y'all were never of age to play it when it came out and have only heard that it's divine from channels like Schizo Elijah and obsidian fanboys.
I can agree for new players it is hard to land on planets. Mainly bc it is more of a simulation type game. You have to slow your speed, check the planes, keep in mind of the atmosphere etc.
New Player Tip: You can set your ship to auto-pilot to a target in super cruise, so you don't have to think about speed and alignment. This way, you will never overshoot your target, and will drop right where you need to; at least in space. Atmosphere works a bit differently, and you will need to focus on alignment yourself, and the glide mechanics.
I've been playing elite almost since the beginning off and on. It was really cool watching you go through the tutorials. I think they just need more fully voiced sections to introduce specific gameplay types.

I have not played Odyssey yet (have heard mixed things) but Elite Dangerous is genuinely the most immersive VR experience I have played! Ive streamed it a few times and every time the community has been extremely supportive and give helpful advice.
@@TheCzechmate007 yeah, that's what I meant, obviously no one will remove already implement VR support for space. But for me it's hard nono since I can walk out of the ship with same proper VR. Tbh, I was considering buying VR headset beceause of Elite (and also Alyx), but since Odyssey has no VR - sorry Alyx, but one game is not enough for me to buy VR now...
@@LeonserGT I bought Reverb G2 and 6900XT just for Elite. Never regretted the purchase. After some time, i started playing Star Citizen and I look forward to the day when they implement VR. And BTW, there is DCS, MSFS2020 and a plethora of other great VR games. Go for it.
The speed letters are based on light speed. C is the speed of light. Ls is light-second, similar to light year. The speedometer is metric based on the meter so no letters is meters/second, km/s is kilometers/second, mm/s is megameters/second If you move at 1c, you’ll move at 1ls per second. Light speed is 300 megameters per second and if I’m not mistaken the speedometer switches to C units once you hit .1 c
in supercruise, if you keep the throttle in the "blue zone" your ship will go almost full speed and slow down automatically when you approach the location you have targeted
@@thetoyodacar2264 Yes and no. You adjust your speed as you're decelerating to keep the 'ETA' at 6 seconds. So it won't take you 6 seconds to get there but it will at your current speed without factoring in deceleration. It's kind of like a cheat of sorts. If you go down to 5 seconds, you're going too fast. If you go above 6, you're slowing down too quickly
It's always interesting seeing new players start Elite, been playing for a few years and brings back the memories from when I was a new commander flying around in my sidey.
@jayvee Quite impressed how well you managed with such an overwhelming game like Elite Dangerous. So many buttons, mechanics and things to take care of (like landing permissions, "loop of shame"s, mass locks or hardpoints deployed while trying to enter supercruise), you did a great job.
I haven't played the Odyssey update, but the new tutorial mission was fun to watch vs what I originally did like 5 years ago "tossed into a ship and learn to fly" lol. I remember overshooting my destination probably a good thousand times before I just took a breath and spent like 3 days just learning how to fly (I originally played on PS4), then watched some videos. I remember a time where there wasn't any auto landing or departure, you had to buy the technology to help you do those things and it was expensive, and I kept bumping into walls and getting fined for it haha. So glad to see you are trying out a lot of new games, and can't wait for the next one!
@@MuttonChops24 If it's anything like Star Citizen, landing and taking off in big ships is one of the most stress inducing tasks you can do in a video game.
I've been playing elite dangerous since launch, prior to Odyssey the only planet exploring you could do was via the rover. The game is made by frontier developments, based in Cambridge England
playing for his future is wrong. you don't play for fun but on what's to come. so all those bugs killing endless uploads just for her future 😂 i didn't think people were that stupid.
I played ED before Odyssey ever came out and I played for about 800 hours. The best description I've ever heard for ED is that it's "a mile wide and inch deep". The scale of the game seems awesome but then you realize there's nothing to do but cargo runs or grinding for 300 hours to make a PvP capable ship.
In all honesty, this game was absolutely RIVETING doing cargo runs under the influence of psychedelics. Once you level up to being a glorified taxi driver ("tours"), you can make 30× the money doing one mission with twelve jumps vs a cargo haul with four. They may take a while but mathematically is still a faster credit earn than hauls especially if you take scans and trade along the way. Still a grind I can't see myself going back to yet :(
"a mile wide and inch deep" for players who want a campaign or be handheld. It's a monstrous sandbox space sim that played with others is immensely fun. The fact that you only mention cargo runs and PvP ya it would feel an inch deep.
@MoshoHunter true, but if its a good looking game you look for and you don't mind bugs, Star Citizen would be a great choice assuming ur pc is up to par
I always liked how approachable elite was compared to the other space sims, ngl i was on the fence about the odyssey dlc but watching you have fun with it kinda changed my mind.
Wouldnt recommend it personally. Its all extremely repetitive. From where you can lamd to the enemies you fight. To the interiors of space stations. Its pretty much all copy pasted. The farther you go the more bullet spongey enemies get as well.
The combat is fairly enjoyable and the spectacle is great, but like everyone else is saying, its mostly repetitive and grindy since frontier hasn't been pushing any interesting story lately
@@ForgedHorizons Yeah, Elite Dangerous in general has a really good hook and cool things to see but when the newness wares off, people see how boring it is and stop playing.
My biggest concern with this video is that you didn't zoom the map all the way out. That is to see ~40 000 000 000 star systems out there. And yep, you can sometmes find real players in the most remote parts of the galaxy.
Elite Dangerous is an amazing spaceflight game, probably the best one I have played, it just has a steep learning curve, but it's well worth the time to figure out. On-foot gameplay is only a recent addition, and most of the gameplay takes place in your ship. The mistake you were making with approaching station while in supercruise is you want to keep your throttle at 50-75%. Also, when you are scanned by security in a settlement, you have to comply. If you have any stolen goods on your or stolen identity, they will become hostile. You can delete your stolen identity before they scan you.
For those wanting to play this on console here's a few notes Devs abandoned console users Console doesn't have the Odyssey Expansion because it was abandoned. Also, in general this game is a grind. Was fun until it was abandoned
Came here to say this. The fact they abandoned console support is ridiculous when you consider how powerful consoles are now. I was really looking forward to playing Odyssey, oh well. 🤦😅
As an elite dangerous player, the DLC is almost an entirely different game, as the actual game is more of a flying/rpg (a very grindy one), which is extremely expansive and requires the use of external websites for trade information, locations, and ship upgrade information. The DLC is very much like starfield, and less like Elite Dangerous.
@@Skulka The ship gameplay doesn't need improving. It's been a staple of spaceflight sims for years. On-foot gameplay was the right way to go, they just need to add more content for it.
learning how to land my ship on planets was honestly the hardest part of this whole game. 2nd only to fitting a type 9 heavy into the mail slot without assists.
Had more problems with the beluga liner Even the automated liftoff has problems with hitting the slot xD I somewhat like that you can have a similar problem with Star Citizen, where ships barely fit their assigned hangars
The fact that it'll be Single player will make it exponentially better than most space games by simply having an actual Story with Characters Traits and Joinable Factions etc.
Played Elite so much throughout lockdown on xbox, when it came to the Odyssey release I was skeptical it would ever come to consoles at least old gen, then they dropped Console development after almost a year of no communication. This game has so much potential but Fdev are the only people in the way of its success... such a shame as well.
Yeah FDev soured this game severely for me, I’m still not convinced FDev can turn things around for me even though they announced that console transfer will happen.
Elite Dangerous has been criticized a lot, but this game is quite an experience. You get an incredible amount of gameplay for a very good price. The biggest problem is that the devs could do so much more with the potential of this game. They have made some very weird decisions during development.
usually just consoles lasted for like 7 years and so then we just moved to whatever next bigger and Advanced consoles ( yes mostly applies to multi modern consoles Aldo classic one still kind of stay for the most part) but I understand your point then again I would say kind of also applies to Payday 2 but that's a different story for another day@@saelin00
I remember trying to learn how to properly arrive at my destinations...the over shooting was a nightmare. Then I learned of the rule of 7, then arrivals became a piece of cake.
Been playing ED exclusively in VR since beta. For PC players, play with Voice Attack. It'll add so much more depth and excitement. If you have the option for VR and a flight stick, take it. Easily one of the greatest experiences. The downside: Odyssey VR is a problem. Once you are on foot, it project a screen to play on that kills all immersion. If you're new, the game is worth it. There is so much to see. It's breathtaking. In VR there's a feeling of anxiety that never goes away. You're always paranoid about the next jump. It could be a black hole, a spastic neutron star, multiple dwarves/black holes, a Thargoid, or even the Salami killing space wizard. Or something nobody's ever seen before. Every jump is a risk, and you're not always guaranteed to finish the jump... Oh, and Treasure Planet, aka Raxxla.
Great video: I've owned Odyssey for quite some time now but never really tried it out besides the walking around in stations and settlements and chasing weird alien plants to sample. But this vid actually made me get into those ground-pounding missions, and they turned out to be quite fun. But I still prefer the simulator aspects of it, and building and customization (engineering) of ships to the FPS stuff.
its a 30€ dlc on top of the game, if like me you've played near the game release you only have the base version witch doesn't let you land on planet because before to land on a planet you had to have the horizon dlc. now the base version let you land on planet but to be able to use your feet you have to have the oddysey dlc
Well some basics for flying: That circle drawn around star is drop out zone, you will drop from supercruise and take heat damage if your course gets inside it. Also when you get close to your targwt (some 11 seconds or less in clock) drop down throttle to "blue zone", that way you don't overspeed. Plus there are a lots of ship missions from ship's menu at space stations if you do not care for on foot missions. (And when it comes to ship to ship combat, getting to combat with your starting ship with default weapons and shields is like trying to hunt a bear with an airgun. )
The fun comes when you get a solar charging module (don't remember what its called, it's been a few years since I played) and you start seeing just how close you can get to a star to refuel more quickly and then you get brave enough to start flying close to pulsars for a super charge.
@@jedsithor Fuel scoop. It is pretty easy, just keep circle line above your bow and roll ship so that star is "Up", and then circle the star until fuel tank is full. At least so with cool running ship. Neutron boosting is just joy ride in pulsar's jet cone (white dwarves on other hand are dangerous, better leave them alone), just try to keep ship inside cone long enough.
That was really fun to watch! Would be curious to see your reaction when having your first Thargoid encounter or being in a combat zone with capital ships :D
Ok, I commented on Star Citizen saying you should play this; happy to see you did. Being said, few things; One, on your left side panel; you can activate supercruise assist. Use this to help flying. The letters and all that have meaning. LY is light year. C mean constant or the speed of light so you can travel 0.58C or 0.58 times the speed of light. For other measurements, you’ll use the imperial system; Km is kilometers, if no notation it’s meters, and the only odd one is mms which is million meters. It’s a lot of numbers and stuff to think about, but if you zoom out you’d see how big the map is. It’s a 1:1 of the MilkyWay. You can land on majority of planets, and you can land where ever you want. You start to realize how long it takes to run 5 kilometer. Currently I’m out in Colonia which is 22,000LY away from the Local Bubble (where majority of the stuff happens). For scale, I’ve been flying for around a month; granted stopping here and there and scanning stuff, and I have a fulltime job but still… 22,000 light years. When I finally docked, I sold my data for over 100,000,000Cr. “The map is massive” is an understatement. A lot of it is empty space, but even with it being mostly empty space, you find some pretty cool stuff.
Great vid, you can always use apex taxis to travel around, you can book them at stations fork the Apex stand and then they will take you to missions. And you can order them from you suit afterwards. Takes the crashing into planets frustration away.
The main difference between Star Citizen and Elite is, that Elite is a sandbox simulating the whole galaxy based on astronomical data, while Star Citizen's world is restricted to a limited number of planets which means they can handcraft a lot. Star Citizen is more trying to give you a space adventure, while Elite is more of a simulation. Hard to say though because SC is still in Alpha. There's a lot of science in Elite actually [insert lont-time-player rant].
I kind of felt it was the other way around? Elite is more space adventure and Star Citizen is more simulation. Seemed like Javee was able to get in and get his bearings in Elite pretty quickly and start having fun without much hassle (other than over-shooting planets). It took me three days just to learn how to properly land and take off in a tiny ship in Star Citizen (and still takes me like five minutes just to properly land my drop ship in that game).
@@billywashere6965 that's because over the years they added a tutorial and landing and travelling assistance as standard modules for every starting ship in order to make it more beginner friendly. There were also several cuts in the video where I was sure he was struggling with mechanics/bindings. 😀 Believe me, elite is a simulation at its core. You can toggle off flight assist and control your ship as a free falling object in space. The galaxy is based on scientific data, also simulating orbits and everything. I don't even have landing assists installed and you can do everything in this game manually. I'm playing Elite for more than 6 years now and it sure has become more beginner friendly, but not by taking things away but rather by adding assistance. As soon as star citizen has actually been released I'll have an opinion about it.
@Flare Star Citizen is not a pay to win scam. It's an Alpha still being financed by the community much like a kickstarter project. They are putting far too much work into this thing to be a scam, but the question is, if you want to still support a project that's going for years and years with still no end in sight. If you can still buy ships with real money after release, that would be pay to win. :D
Denial about what? SC? Haha! I got my account gifted by a friend and played like... 1 hour? :D I don't like alpha/beta testing, so I am noping out until release. :D
I'll share my ED tip here, I have about 1,000 hours invested in it. If you're having problems covering distances in Elite and you need or want to get to a particular system, far away. Use a fuel scoop and neutron stars. The radiation cone of the neutron star can be scooped and supercharge your frameshift. There's actually a website you can use to help plot a route on the "neutron star highway." Be careful however, you can potentially get trapped in a system if you don't have the jump capabilities to exit, you damage your ship every time you enter the cone, and you can potentially get trapped within the cone causing a canopy breach and death. With an engineered Anaconda FSD, my jump potential is like 160 LYs. I traveled to Sag A* using them.
Man, I have played this game way too much. It is crazy to see you try it out fresh with all the new content. You seem to have had a really good experience, compared to the old days! It’s a game with a lot to figure out, which is half the fun to me. I see all the flaws these days, but you actually made me fall in love with the game again. Thanks for sharing!
Long time player here (almost 800 hours) one thing I wish they taught you was the 7 second rule for supercruise travel. When your eta hits 7 seconds to arrival while in supercruise, decelerate until your throttle hits the blue zone, and keep decelerating until you're going as slow as possible while still being in the blue zone. This means that you'll stay around 7 to 8 seconds to arrival all the way until you're close enough to drop out, and you won't get caught in a gravity well and overshoot.
Nice to see the gameplay on foot. I played 80 hours in VR with a HOTAS, did mining, trading, fighting and exploring, but in the last expansion so ship only. Was still one of the greatest VR experiences. Dropping out of a system jump and seeing a big sun was jaw dropping. I only stopped because it took way too much time to earn money for bigger ships and I didn't want it to be my life. Why do developers always go for "you have to play 1000 hours to have the best ship" in mmos? Isn't 50 hours already a high number today? We all have so much to do and so few time. I miss games like Freelancer, Starlancer and most important, Freespace 2.
I always wanted to play this game when I was young but couldn’t because I got stuck in some random part of space behind a planet that I think was floating on its own without a star and I was terrified because I was suck next to this huge black sphere in the middle of space
OMFG! I'm guessing your not a previous elite dangerous player/fan because I am and I actually was not aware of this expansion, this is HUGE! It was already a game in itself that has massively deep mechanics in space exploration and ship customisation and management. Along with piracy, our ty hunting and trade, but all done from the cockpit of your ship. The fact that you can now exit the ship and explore stuff in this way has just blown starfield out of the water! I'm buzzing g and I'm going now to purchase the expansion, so nice one
been playing Elite since 2017, it was such a joy playing the game alongside you while seeing you experience it for the first time. wish i could do that again! you were making all the same mistakes as i did back in the day, but coming over them much faster. hearing how much fun you had discovering things for the frst time was awesome.
Tips of advice (Too lazy to read if it has been said yet): The easiest way to find your target is next to the upper-left of your temp gauge (ship dash hud) there is a blue dot. Solid means in front of you, outline means behind. To drop out of Supercruise easier, set your throttle to the top/middle of the blue bar and it will slow down on its own
The original "Elite", the first one of the series, was released in 1984. Every other space game is "Like Elite". Elite is the original, all the others are pretenders.
And I played it back in the day on a BBC B computer! Wireframe graphics but it was still amazing, and playing ED now I can still see the skeleton of the original under the current flesh.
As an Elite Dangerous OG I love this game. It's kind of the first big space Sim game. It also has a much more realistic and grounded experience compared to something like No Man sky (which I also love). Especially since I was a xbox gamer at the time there was just nothing like Elite Dangerous. Great game
They could’ve made ground combat so much better by getting rid of the whole having to swap weapons so often, or just simply making a gun that shoots both. Also the blue part on the throttle is the spot that automatically slows you down as you get closer to your destination, and turn faster
I like how they load new game assets at the Beginning of space jump, so it looks like the stutter during loading from hard drive is actually caused by time dilation quantum mambo jambo. That's so simple, yet ingenious.
I would skip over NMS. If you're coming from Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen, you will be bored of NMS very quickly. I played for about 100 hours and went right back to Elite.
@@PowerofRock24 That really depends. I have put about 700 hours in NMS, and about the same as Elite ( I guess a little more since I started on console and then moved to pc version). They are different beasts. The only similarities are: space and planets.
@@StellarisIgnis I think Elite does space and spaceships to such a high quality that NMS doesn't match. I honestly hated the ships in NMS. But there is a lot to do on planets, it just seemed like a walking simulator.
I played "Frontier: Elite 2" for years, and got nearly Elite ranking. Maxed out the best ship, and still have over 25 million bucks left. You start with only 100 bucks and a small useless ship. Elite Dangerous. Had it in backlog for years as i haven't had the time for it.
@@Sylusssss I hear how Odyssey ruined the game a lot, but from what I've seen here, it looked decently accessible, like a more arcade-oriented version of Star Citizen?
@@billywashere6965 Kinda sorta, yeah. Ignore the people who are yelling that they "ruined it". People say it "ruined" the game either because it was very buggy and un-optimized on launch (which is true, but has since been mostly resolved), or because it didn't include ship interiors (which wasn't an announced feature). Some folks are also mad because the console release was cancelled. If you enjoy Elite, you'll probably enjoy Odyssey. The on-foot FPS gameplay is definitely less simulation-y and more akin to a game like Halo, so yeah, like a more arcade-y Star Citizen. No need to worry about injuries or survival mechanics.
This title actually hit. Usually im watching these for games im already playing. But i actually havent played elite dangerous in a whil amd genuinely dont plan to anytime soon, so its cool to see what the new stuff looks like
I think its cute that all these space games have communities that are super friendly towards each other. Sure some people are tribal, but most Star Citizen fans and Elite Dangerous fans are excited and enjoy one anothers perfered game. Its a nice depature from the fan wars we see between fps games or consoles. Infact, EVE online and Star Citizen are collaborating on a lego building competition that will have community members build ships from each others games.
That's not exactly what I've experienced. The majority of Star Citizen players are very welcoming because the game gets so much (usually uninformed or misinformed) hate that anyone who gives it a fair chance is celebrated. On the other hand the majority of Elite players I've encountered have been insufferably tribal, and act very elitist. Although more of them have been open-minded since Odyssey's failure. Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky aren't the kind of games I'm interested in, but I'm glad they exist for the people who are interested. Now if only Frontier actually cared enough to improve ED and fulfill all of the promises they made for the kickstarter.
Honestly, most SC fans are also Elite players. It's only the extremely loud assholes who absolutely insist on picking sides that make it seem otherwise. Hell, it's even more so now. SC seems to be having a huge resurgence of players despite its history, mostly from ex-Elite players (or current Elite players branching out.) You're going to get douchebags no matter what game you play, anyways.
Tried to play this game so many times. It’s one of those games that I want is badly to get into it but it’s been hard for me to get past the tutorial phase
If you can manage to tough it out for the first part of the learning curve it actually becomes really fun. edit: one of the things that made it super immersive for me is getting a flight stick with a separate throttle control. The guy at Micro Center tried to warn me about getting one of the slightly more expensive sticks with a separate throttle control rather than a tiny one integrated in to the stick itself.

I remember Elite on the Amiga. Started right in space, and if you had no idea what to do - like me - you were just flying endlesslymin empty space until you got bored of nothing happening. No internet then, so you were stuck with the feeling of probably missing out on an awesome game.
@@xchalibur77 It does tend to get boring/repetitive after a while. I just switch games in that case and return to it later. It's a great game to watch UA-cam or Twitch while playing. 😉
@@xchalibur77 The game requires you to have good inner resourcefulness and planning. If you can't find anything to do, it's not a fault with the game. There is always plenty to do out there. I have over 2.5k hours and still have yet to fight the Thargoids, unlock all the Guardian tech, visit the generation ships and Beagle Point, and achieve Elite V in all trades. When I get bored, I just play something else for awhile. There are still some racing ships I want to build though, so I will do that at some point.
Elite Dangerous is one of those games where, for better or for worse, straight up REQUIRES your undivided attention. The game essentially has the detail of Microsoft Flight Sim but in space. It’s grindey as all hell but there’s a reason why I have over 300 hours into it Elite Dangerous is a niche game within a niche genre but as far as space sims go, you really can’t do any better. If you’re accustomed to more casual experiences like No Man’s Sky, then Elite Dangerous is almost guaranteed to overwhelm you. I do implore people do give it a chance but are expected to actually learn and use the game’s mechanics.
it is nice to see someone just picking the game up not knowing anything about it, and having fun (well what looks like fun) figuring out how it works. There is a lot of grind to come, and even more fun to be had. I have been playing ED for over 1000 hours on steam and i have it on console. I enjoy the fact that you make your own story. There is no set way to do anything. I literally just finished a 5000 ly journey for an engineer, and am now grinding to unlock them. There is so much to do, and I find it helps that you set goals for what you want to do in the game. short term, long term, and stuff you can do in between so you dont get burnt out. Elite in my mind is not dead, boring, empty, or pointless. The game is not for everyone, and each commander does their own thing. however if you have not already, i would strongly suggest finding a squad to fly with. They can teach you more, and make your day in space more entertaining than it ever would be flying alone. Good luck in the Black commander. o7
If you can, try flying around in VR, assuming you own a headset. It won't work on the ground areas (aka FPS mode), but being able to look freely around your cockpit changes everything.
both elite dangerous and star citizen put a lot of emphasis on the space part of the game, like 80% from what i saw, and starfield i'd bet money focuses more on the ground stuff, after all, it'll be a bethesda rpg first and foremost
Fallout 4....in space. All joking aside, let's hope it is more fallout 4 and less fallout 76. That the devs do not make an arbitrary, game wrecking design decision and then stick to their guns until nobody cares anymore.
Yeah, they've already been setting the expectation that Starfield is gonna be more about the action RPG game and less about the space game. The fact that there's any space ship content at all is pretty exciting, and I appreciate that it's there. But don't judge Starfield about whether or not it's a good space sim, because that's definitely not what they're marketing the game as.

A huge tip to players who are curious to try elite dangerous after this. In the settings you can program a button to set your ship throttle to 75%.
When in super cruise heading to a destination, If you activate that throttle setting at 7 seconds on the clock “0:07”
You will always come in for a smooth entering and you’ll never have to turn around or emergency exit to get back to your destination.

Well... we did get an SRV with Horizons to drive around on the planets. :)

I feel like elite is 95% of what I want with the other 5% being more curated content and ship interiors. I can agree for new players it is hard to land on planets. Mainly bc it is more of a simulation type game. You have to slow your speed, check the planes, keep in mind of the atmosphere etc.
New Player Tip:
You can set your ship to auto-pilot to a target in super cruise, so you don't have to think about speed and alignment. This way, you will never overshoot your target, and will drop right where you need to; at least in space. Atmosphere works a bit differently, and you will need to focus on alignment yourself, and the glide mechanics.

You're always paranoid about the next jump. its a 30€ dlc on top of the game, if like me you've played near the game release you only have the base version witch doesn't let you land on planet because before to land on a planet you had to have the horizon dlc. now the base version let you land on planet but to be able to use your feet you have to have the oddysey dlc

I remember my first time playing elite, def a harder game to learn but once you get it you will love it
Well some basics for flying: That circle drawn around star is drop out zone, you will drop from supercruise and take heat damage if your course gets inside it.
The yellow ring around stars is called an exclusion zone beyond that your ship will drop from warp or supercruise
Despite all the glitches and whatnot odyssey has I’m still getting it. I’ve always wanted to play a proper space sim
That was really fun to watch! Would be curious to see your reaction when having your first Thargoid encounter or being in a combat zone with capital ships :D

FUMP - BRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG
Ok, I commented on Star Citizen saying you should play this; happy to see you did.
Being said, few things;
One, on your left side panel; you can activate supercruise assist.
A lot of it is empty space, but even with it being mostly empty space, you find some pretty cool stuff.
i need to go back into this game 🤔 when i played, leaving your ship was a PIPE DREAM. still loved it though
Believe me, elite is a simulation at its core.
@Flare We'll see on release. Whenever that might be. :D
Someone gifted me the game two years ago. Otherwise I wouldn't even own it.
Denial about what? SC? Haha!
I got my account gifted by a friend and played like... 1 hour? :D
I don't like alpha/beta testing, so I am noping out until release.
Longtime Elite player here! LOVE this video. The energy is incredible! :)
The "Map" is actually 400 billion stars and 1:1 scale of our galaxy.
I love the fact that this man comes from star field, a game that’s not even out, to play well known space games 😂 I like your videos
Elite Dangerous is a really good game, glad to see it get more attention.
been playing Elite since 2017, it was such a joy playing the game alongside you while seeing you experience it for the first time. wish i could do that again!
you were making all the same mistakes as i did back in the day, but coming over them much faster. hearing how much fun you had discovering things for the frst time was awesome.
I've been playing Elite for a while, it was really fun to watch it from a new player's perspective!
"Stow your weapon, I'm warning you"
Pulls his weapon back out
Would love to see you try playing the pre-Odyssey ship based gameplay, missions, trading, mining, ship combat, etc.
Tips of advice (Too lazy to read if it has been said yet):
The easiest way to find your target is next to the upper-left of your temp gauge (ship dash hud) there is a blue dot.
Great game
Well damn. Now I kinda want to play Elite Dangerous.
Don't. It's actually terrible. Odyssey killed it.
@@FullBitGamer Odyssey didn't kill it, you are just upset they didn't give you interiors for your ships.
@@FullBitGamer Doomer take. Odyssey killed nothing. You can play without the expansion.
It's a great game, I would highly recommend it
O7
They could’ve made ground combat so much better by getting rid of the whole having to swap weapons so often, or just simply making a gun that shoots both. Also the blue part on the throttle is the spot that automatically slows you down as you get closer to your destination, and turn faster
Given that space and ground gameplay is separate this is way closer to what we will get with Starfield than either NMS or Star Citizen anyway..
how does that change anything?
@CadMan Fox
That changes everything
I like how they load new game assets at the Beginning of space jump, so it looks like the stutter during loading from hard drive is actually caused by time dilation quantum mambo jambo. That's so simple, yet ingenious.
I really like Playing Elite and Star citizen, I would play no mans Sky too but you can only play so many Space games at once :D
You my good person, are not trying hard enough.
I'm commander Shepard, and this favorite game in the space citadel.
You backlogged it for too long as they ruined it with Odyssey
@@MarkZeroGaming Ah okay, thanks that makes a ton of sense and seems like a well balanced view of what's going on.😀
@@Sylusssss Such a Doomer take. They ruined nothing with Odyssey. It's completely optional content you don't have to engage with lol
This title actually hit. Usually im watching these for games im already playing. But i actually havent played elite dangerous in a whil amd genuinely dont plan to anytime soon, so its cool to see what the new stuff looks like
I came here to further solidify my disappointment in starfield. It worked
Glad to see my favorite UA-camr seems to be a community fan
this is much fun in VR
SC seems to be having a huge resurgence of players despite its history, mostly from ex-Elite players (or current Elite players branching out.)
You're going to get douchebags no matter what game you play, anyways.
It's a good game. Been playing since day 1. I recommend watching some videos about how things work.
Elite dangerous was made to be a vr game you need a headset it play it the way it’s ment
The learning curve evens out the more your forge on... I spent 2 hours trying to kill the bot in the tutorial when I first started lmao. Now, even Corvettes aren't save when I drop in that conflict zone with my Vulture.
Yeah this game just seems like it is so epic. Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe I’ll give it a spin this week. Wish me luck!
@@ToyLatrine Good luck! I find that the confusion at first actually makes it much more rewarding when you get the hang of something :)
Stick with it. The learning curve is difficult, but we all started out not knowing how to play. The community is very helpful and will give you tips and some may even offer to be your mentor.
Good luck CMDR, fly safe O7
I remember Elite on the Amiga. Started right in space, and if you had no idea what to do - like me - you were just flying endlesslymin empty space until you got bored of nothing happening. No internet then, so you were stuck with the feeling of probably missing out on an awesome game.
I still love Elite Dangerous.. 1300 hours in so far.
What it's interesting in it? How come you don't get bored after a while?
5:55 - the jump range on that Cobra though!
Must be a pre-engineered FSD v.5
I wonder if Star field will be as grindey as Elite Dangerous then.
Elite Dangerous is one of those games where, for better or for worse, straight up REQUIRES your undivided attention. The game essentially has the detail of Microsoft Flight Sim but in space. It’s grindey as all hell but there’s a reason why I have over 300 hours into it
Elite Dangerous is a niche game within a niche genre but as far as space sims go, you really can’t do any better. If you’re accustomed to more casual experiences like No Man’s Sky, then Elite Dangerous is almost guaranteed to overwhelm you. I do implore people do give it a chance but are expected to actually learn and use the game’s mechanics.
No, and if it is then you can simply cheat
@@francescoragnoni8042 Yep. I call it unbullshitting the game. Cheat Engine is a heavenly tool.
Star Field will definitely be grindy and have MTX for those who can afford to skip it
it is nice to see someone just picking the game up not knowing anything about it, and having fun (well what looks like fun) figuring out how it works.
Good luck in the Black commander. o7
looks pretty solid
Most likely with some dpace combat missions thrown in the mix
Yeah, they've already been setting the expectation that Starfield is gonna be more about the action RPG game and less about the space game. The fact that there's any space ship content at all is pretty exciting, and I appreciate that it's there. But don't judge Starfield about whether or not it's a good space sim, because that's definitely not what they're marketing the game as.
played this game for 300 hours from 2016-2017. Was not able to play the on foot gameplay. Might give this a shot
